I'd rather see Gibson ease in as a starter in Rochester, as stated the approach for starting is different that a reliever. Let him build up his strength, work on his speeds and get settled. Escobar may buy Dozier some time to get his head straight in Rochester but realistically he's going to have to show he can handle it this year in MN, I'm not so willing to say he's going to be fine at 2B but considering his bat potential and the alternatives, they may as well try it. He's the only thing at MI I'm remotely interested in or hopeful about.
Curious that there was no mention of the large payroll drop and it being the reason most people believed this could be a try to compete year, as well as a rebuild year. He seems to place most of the emphasis for not being competitive in 2013 on the trading of Span and Revere as opposed to not bothering to try to spend any money on decent pitching and a little MI depth. The prediction for a "greatly" improved team by 2014 is drinking the Kool-Aid while wearing your rose coloured glasses. Just a poor article overall.
To me Morneau is definitely the kind of player that stays in Minnesota if given a reasonable offer, he has solid roots , genuinely seems to love the community and both he and his wife contribute greatly to it in a variety of ways. I also think there is some merit in keeping him, he's going to surprise a lot of people this year in my estimation and it's going to make people think twice. I get it that trading him at peak value is the optimal time to do it but the offer better be at least upper tier pitching or MI prospects or I say keep him. I agree with Seth though that if Gardy goes, I'm not sure Morneau re-ups.
Getting by with your "natural ability" is easier in high school and college, you need to develop actual technique and discipline in the upper minors and especially in the big leagues. Sounds like a bit of ego as well.
