  1. Reality set in when we signed him, that's the biggest problem. I accept it but I don't like it.
  2. There is no chance the Twins are going to use any money to sign an "Ace" pitcher anytime in the near future. Not only is Ryan on record as saying he won't overpay for pitching, he is also very adverse to giving long-term deals, something that is a pre-requisite in getting an "ace". Agree or disagree with the strategy but don't expect any extra revenue for payroll to change that strategy.
  3. But....but.....you said this, which is it? 2/15 does nothing to "hamstring" this team.
  4. And being an oversensitive Braves fan on a Twins forum is a whole new level of dumb-ass.
  5. Hrbek,is there really another choice? The Gant play was an all time classic for it's significance and in the way Hrbek just ran off the field as if it was just another routine play at first.
  6. So they rushed him last year and he flopped, didn't bother to call him up in September and now they seem prepared to just hand him the 2nd base gig, based pretty much on the fact that the only other alternatives are Escobar and a 39 year old utility player. Why am I not all that confident?
  7. I think people tend to forget where Morneau was mid-way through 2010, not so long ago. I also tend to think that a lot people take for granted how missing so much of 2011 affected his play in 2012. To miss almost a year of actual playing time as well as almost a full off-season of strength and conditioning certainly played a role in his struggles, much more than any lingering effects of his concussion. I think it's very possible for Morneau to OPS over .850, we saw glimpses of it during the latter part of last year. I don't think .850-.875, with 20-25 HR's is so far fetched. Having said that, I'm going to miss him.
  8. Marcum, 1 year, 4 million, Joe Saunders, nothing and somehow we have Kevin Correia for 2/10.........that's bizarre.
  9. Is this just the Murphy's law thread or do we need to discuss the actual laws of probability?
  10. You're kidding right?...I mean tell me you are...please.
  11. Silly, fair enough but your second statement indicates the reality of it, I believe it was some PR bombast.
  12. Nothing about Florimon's game should hint at him getting anywhere close to comfortable that he is a shoo-in SS. At the very least some minor league FA's to at least send the message to him that they're open to the idea of playing someone else, as they should be.
  13. Gardy's comments are a way more accurate reflection of the upcoming situation than Ryan's.There was one sentence from TR quoted in the article, I just take it as Ryan making more of an overall comment on Mauer's health and taking an opportunity to feed the fans what they want to hear, which is more Mauer at C. There is no way he is going to play 125 games, is it in the realm of possibilty, how can you say it isn't? Is it in the realm of likely, no.
  14. Notice TR didn't say "he's the type of baseball player" you want at shortstop......sigh.
  15. Who said anything about the World Series? Most of us are just talking about not being out of contention in the Central by June, is that too much to ask?
  16. I don't quite understand your reluctance to make this team more competitive now when they have the means to do it. Nobody has any issue with the moves Ryan has made to bolster the team a couple of years from now, it's been supported countless times. What is your issue with anybody that seems to think it's reasonable to spend some money on some players that could help this team in the short-term, which is within their means, and not hurt the team in the future? Additionally,if you are all about new ideas, would spending money on some decent free agents not qualify as a new idea for a team that has historically never done it?
  17. You keep saying this but outside of one notable "the sun is always shining" poster, I don't get it. I know there are a few posters who tend to steer clear of saying anything negative but you seem to go out of your way to take that as some personal affront to your right to be negative. I don't take anyone's sunny disposition to mean I don't have a right to be negative about some things.
  18. Don't forget " I think your post is stupid" meaning " Perhaps you didn't hear me the first 12 times, " I think your post is stupid and I'm fishing for some likes in my profile".
  19. You keep referencing what was said in post 64, which you first responded to in post 65 and then again a few posts later and then again almost 30 posts later. I have no problem with you taking issue with what was said and calling someone out, nicely or not, if someone is going to post they have to know how to take a shot, but at what point are you just kicking someone once they're down?
  20. C'mon Fro, I appreciate the snark as much as you but there is a difference between speaking out against what you deem to be "mindless drivel" and just gratuitously ridiculing someone. I think Lev made his point earlier, the last one was just being a d**k. I'll take back my troll reference.
  21. If you're referring to me, you're delusional. Personally I could care less but others that claim they do shouldn't be talking out of both sides of their mouths.
  22. RB, don't feed the trolls, it's what you're doing just by responding to the snark. It's the childish garbage directed at you that will deter others from coming here, too bad some of the administrators decide to just pile on instead of taking the high road they lecture others to stay on.
  23. RB, I'm a TR fan, I think he's a shrewd baseball man and has a firm grasp of his plan regarding the big picture. But I think it's fair at this point to lay some criticism at his feet in the way he has handled this off-season as it relates to 2013. One of two things are evident, the plan he strongly indicated he was going to implement early on, was never really a plan and he was in full spin mode or he actually thinks he fulfilled that plan and is satisfied with the results. Either way, it's unacceptable as it relates to payroll, the players he's acquired and the message he's trying to send the fans.
  24. I agree, baseball endorsements tend to be local, not national or global. A player can just as easily get an endorement deal from ACME in Minnesota or Chicago or Milwaukee. Of course there are always exceptions, who can forget Palmiero's infamous "Works for me" quote, while plugging Viagara (although now we know why it had to), and of course one of the most famous endorsements of all time when Pete Rose was robbed of a sure HR off a 12 year old, by none other than the jug of Kool-Aid guy......what a catch!!! Here's an article from a few year's back that pretty much supports what you're saying. It's an odd phenomenon. SportsBiz: Why advertisers shun baseball - Business - Sports Biz | NBC News
