  1. Sure, but if it turns into another " Mauer sucks and should give back half his salary because he's soft and always injured and always looks at 1st pitch and is terrible at 1st base and the Twins should never have signed him to that contract anyway and even though Bill Smith did it it's really Terry Ryan's fault thread ", Then consider it unreasonable and not on topic, which will result in a warning point. And so will any further discussion about why that is, unless you want to do it in a pm.
  2. Not the real Acropolis btw..............you probably knew that though.
  3. I have no issue with the factual parts of Woods article and those facts being what IS adheres to. I agree with Levi that alternate interpretations of Islam by others is really irrelevant and doesn't make the article false. My issue with it is the tone with which I feel it's written. I think Wood goes too far that these true beliefs within the faith are something to potentially fear. Followers of IS might be something to fear, inasmuch as they're a bunch of lunatics, but that's about it, it has nothing to do with Islam to me at all.
  4. Baklava Day? Well, off to Acropolis for lunch, suits me.
  5. I'm not deliberately white washing anything and II didn't say he should run from anything. Is his article above reproach? So they interpret Islam based on it's most literal historical roots, laws and customs, that's not shocking to me, but his article had a touch of hyperbole imo. That's all, my take, nothing more.
  6. I eschewed National Fast Food Day and instead had a delicious bowl of Pho at my favourite Vietnamese restaurant in Calgary. When is National Pho Day I wonder? I'm going to make it a marathon. Despite the fact I'm not American and these are not really my National Days, it's still fun to live vicariously through you all.
  7. Wait.....Mauer is going to Korea?.............Wut?
  8. Yeah, with an option left, why?
  9. Sad day, Bockwinkle was a true legend, and a Saint Paul native.
  10. Agreed, I know what you're saying, . I just didn't care for the way Wood framed the article and I only posted the other link as a reference for a wider response to it. I think it makes a difference what the overwhelming majority of Muslims think because it is one of the most misunderstood elements when it come to radical interpretations of Islam. I realize you understand that, but we both know most don't and that is already fueling a lot of hatred.
  11. I didn't think much of The Atlantic article but I can see how it's somewhat easy to misinterpret one way or the other. Wood seems to have written it with a conclusion in mind but also tries to place a few caveats throughout that indicate he isn't necessarily doing that. Here are some main issue some scholars have with the article, I tend to agree with them. http://thinkprogress.org/world/2015/02/18/3624121/atlantic-gets-dangerously-wrong-isis-islam
  12. No, but ISIS stands to gain by using said people to further the instability in Syria, which for the US is an unintended consequence but a very much intended one for ISIS. At this point it appears to me that ISIS is gaining far more from the sectarian violence in Syria than the US, I wonder why this subset wouldn't see that?..................hmmmm.
  13. Huh? I don't think the real US interest in Syria and the Paris attacks are linked, ISIS has no stake in the energy power play going on in the country between Western Europe and Russia, in which the US is playing a significant role. They do have a stake and great interest in the instability of Syria though.
  14. Seriously dude? You said this, connect the dots. I'm not doing it for you.
  15. This is news? Wth do you think Russia gives a flying ****?
  16. Exactly what Bin Laden wanted when he brought the West to Afghanistan and Iraq. Regardless of how far back the seeds of radicalism were sown and what the causes are, this certainly played a major part in where we are today. Instability was the goal, mission accomplished.
  17. I'd love to believe this is the noble, selfless motive of the West, but places like Rwanda, Bosnia and many others tell me otherwise.
  18. Agreed, and for us to stop giving them what they want.
  19. Well, I guess I must be wrong then....
  20. Go, I think Paris is the greatest city in the world and Parisians are very interesting to talk with. The would still be as proud to have you in their city, I can't imagine this event would diminish that, it may even strengthen it. There might not be a more fascinating time to go and listen to what they think.
  21. I agree the West bears some responsibility for the rise of Isis, the destabilisation in the region makes it low hanging fruit for sure and they have exploited the opportunity. It isn't entirely to blame though and inaction was only going to be acceptable for so long. I don't think world annihilation is their goal really, that doesn't jive with their desire to establish a far reaching Islamic state encompassing all Muslims.
  22. A few things, and by no means do I pretend to have an answer. Yes they are cowards I don't think they necessarily want a country but they do want every bit of Western influence expunged from all of their holy lands and to rule them by their definition of Islam. As hard as it is to disagree with putting more troops on the ground to deal with this, how's that worked for us so far? Capitulation isn't the answer but I just don't know what the compromise is, right now the ideologies don't really allow for any realistic ones.
  23. Let's flip the switch, can anyone against this trade see any potential redeeming value for the Twins and can anyone supporting it see any reason it doesn't make much sense? Honestly interested in that feedback.
  24. This just reaffirms why for the most part I hate humanity. We're ****ing useless.
  25. Why?
