  1. Simmons and his importance to the team has been so underrated by twins fans that who want to correlate bats to defense and never figure range in as defensive importance. Until covid bit, his bat was was close to Arraez. I'd hate to imagine where'd be without him.
  2. 1st time I saw Rotsedt (forgive me for slaughtering your the name) I wasn't impressed. He never got set fast enough to give the pitchers a good target. The OF was indeed scary, as Garlic anchored in CF and Astudillo tried to navigate through unfamiliar waters.. When will they realize that bats can't substitute the need for a true CFer. Umpiring was terrible! Uniforms helps to project a vibe team wants to instill. They have accomplished that objective. By bringing back the baby blues, looks like they have brought back the Twinkies Era. Missing opportunities, many wrong mindsets and not having a proactive trading system. The damage has been done, is it too late? I hope not but it'll take drastic measures.
  3. Not surprised one bit about Dobnak's successful outing, it was how he was used from the start. If Simmons is on the field he'll be our most reliable starter. Refsnyder is much better than Cave. Cave should be DFA, no one would be stupid enough to take him now. Refsnyder is proof that you can't totally rely on stats. Although I really like Refsnyder, Broxton is a better choice if you can build up his confidence again. Farrell, I hope he can find sustainable success with his changed pitching selection
  4. I suggested Thorpe in the beginning of season to pitch long relief. Still do, this season we need at least 2 long relievers. To keep the starters fresh and not be so depending on the short relief.
  5. It was great to see Dobnak return to his starter role. I wasn't sure he'd return with that unshakable confidence after his misusuage at relieving, but he has. Dobnak is a starter, you have to give him the opportunity to win the game. Baldelli's excuse of not pitching Dobnak was that there was too many close games. That was EXACTLY the time to use the hot Dobnak, coming off a hot ST. That statement, showed a lack of confidence in Dobnak and misplaced confidence in a shaky BP, coming out of ST. If management had used Dobnak in those situations we wouldn't be in the hole that we are in. Dobnak is not an ace, but he's a dependable ground ball pitcher. He's only as good as the infield that supports him. So to judge him you have throw the stats out the window. If you have Simmons in the game, you can usually depend on the offense to score a couple of runs and if the BP can hold and save games; we'll win games. I'd bet on it.
  6. The problem is getting a hit when we really need one. The team seems to be unmotivated except Buxton and maybe Cruz. Is there a reason behind it? I also question validity of WAR. Defense seems underrated and hard to believe we are 4th in WAR at LF. Something is definitely broken.
  7. Thank you Matthew for your article. All of them could help the Twins. I've been impartial to Richard Rodriguez. He's had a lot of success so far this season which makes him more appealing. Although his 4 seamer is his primary pitch, he has 4 pitches he can go to if needed (change up, slider and sinker). His stock has gone up but 2 or 3 low players could do the trick (more the better to free up our 40 man). PIT could go for a trade because I believe they still have committed to rebuilding and Rodriguez has been on the trading block earlier this season. Also we might have a few low valued players that could interest them.
  8. Agreed. Even in a regular season extending starters is not the solution. In 2019, our rotation was the best in MLB, then our BP blew up. We started to extend our starters especially Gibson (who was suffering from colitis) and Perez (who was transitioning from BP). The BP got straightened out but Gibson and Perez never recovered, Berrios ran out of gas, Pineda and Odorizzi were protected but we lost Pineda to suspension, Leaving only Odorizzi. Odorizzi was not 100%. This year we extended Shoemaker a little and now we are paying the price. Just because we can extend a starter and in the short run and get away with it doesn't mean we should. We need to look at the bigger picture. Let's say extending our starters helps us get to the dance. And the result will be extending our MLB record of # of consecutive PS games lost with our spent pitchers. No thank you! We need to fix our BP another way as soon as possible
  9. The BP has been ?????s all season. Baldelli has decided to put all his trust in them even though they have shown that they can't be. Dobnak and Thorpe were impressive in ST. There is where his trust should have been in long relief. They should have been used to factor the short relief out of games until they get their acts together as I've advocated from the beginning. As far as closers goes, I'd try to trade for one 1st. #1- FAs which are left, they are left over for some reason. #2- FAs are rusty and will take some time to get them game ready. #3- we desperately need to make trades to free space on our 40 man to make appropriate moves, like bringing up Broxton. It's a shame we couldn't bring him up when camp broke. Instead they sent him down to cool off. If we look we could probably find a trading partner. Some one who needs to shore up an area where we can help or a team that has conceded to rebuild even if they have shown some promise if they like the deal. The problem is we need to look.
  10. Happy that Gibson is having a good season, he deserves it. The few mistakes he made the Twins made him pay. Wish him well especially against CWS. Yet it was a shame that Buck's performance went for nought. We need to trade for a decent closer. I prefer a trade where we can free up some space on the 40 man so we call up Broxton.
  11. They exposed them by bringing them up to the active roster then dropping them. They should've left Lin in the minors, keeping him in the system until we really him. Again I still hope they both pass waivers because we're so lacking at SS. It's not a bad idea to keep Riddle on the active roster as a backup SS.
  12. Very strong team all around except the infield. It was pretty reckless exposing both Riddle and Lin. They didn't even use Lin in the infield. Hopefully both will pass
  13. Shoemaker opened the floodgates which was hard to close. KC's Duffy was pretty stingy. Cruz and Kiriloff keep up the good work. That's all I'm going to say about that.
  14. Great game by the Twins! Hope they have these blow out more often to overcome any shortcomings. Happy that Kiriloff broke out, expecting him to sustain this. Also happy for Rortvedt that he got his 1st hit in his 1st game, that will make it lot easier for him.Almost feel sorry for Benintendi (not),getting rob of 2 hits (one possibly a HR) and when he did get on he was picked off.
  15. Hope Riddle and Lin pass waivers.
  16. After simplifying his swing to where he felt more comfortable and beefing up he gained confidence. I could see it last year and a hunger that I hadn't seen before.
  17. With his mind set, his new found physical strength and stability (since last year) I don't see him slowing down much. Go Buck!
  18. Being a switch hitter is a valuable asset and Polanco has been doing pretty well at it until he hurt his ankle. Patience is what is needed.
  19. Yes, Polanco is naturally a better LH hitter, IMO it's crazy to have him give up hitting LH. IMO the problem has been over stretching him at SS, which caused his ankle problem. Unfortunately that greatly affected him hitting LH. Together with covid and the unjuiced ball really threw a wrench in his hitting prowess. They are on the right track by returning him to 2B. It will take time to undo the damage and find his groove. But I'm confident that he will.
  20. I wouldn't write off KC so quickly. Many doubted the Twins hot start in 2019 and wrote them off. KC could continue to surprise people throughout the season. We can't take anyone for granted.
  21. One side of me when he had his last hit, I was hoping that he'd turn it on and go for a triple to hit the cycle. But the other side was relieved that he didn't.
  22. This is my 1st tv game from Brazil . The Bomba Squad came out as it became the Byron Buxton Show (MVP). Happy to see Garver and Polanco have good games. Happ's doesn't impresses me but he misses barrels pretty consistently. Dobnak impressed me more with 3 SOs/ 2 innings, a groundballer that can come up with some big SOs. Baldelli here wasted him again as a mop up. How many pitchers could've used those innings to work things out and how many games we lost when we could've used Dobnak in long relief. But what really matters today is that we won!!!!!!
  23. He's one of the reasons to help us forget Graterol. But it's not working yet.
  24. I'm not saying that analytics are bad and should be ignored but we can't over look the most important stat which is wins and losses. There are strong indicators in the past that show we win about 2/3 of our games when Buxton is in (lately this is not accurate) and we lose about 2/3 of our games when Cave is there. Yet they say Cave is a viable replacement, much like they said that Polanco was an all star starting SS. I'm not knocking Cave or Polanco they're good to very good players at their appropriate positions. What I'm saying and will continue to say is Cave will not transform himself into a adequate CF. We need Broxton on the field available at any time to replace Buxton. Not only this but also to PR and a defensive replacement in a crucial game. I know last game there's nothing you can do to defend against HRs. This solution is to help limit our loses down the road and hopefully be one solution to one problem that gets us on a winning streak.
  25. I heard before that at the St. Paul site that there isn't enough to have 2 teams. Why not bring in some AA players to help out? I'm sure they could use the extra playing time and they can better simulate games.
