  1. Good point.
  2. I kind of hope it is an injury or something to do with lingering concussion symptoms too. He isn't the Joe Mauer of old. Maybe it is just me, but I am noticing more swings and misses from him. It seems like he used to take longer at bats in the past and would work counts better by being able to foul boarder line pitches off. Now, I am not seeing that. I don't have stats to back that.
  3. Either one would be fine. They are not part of the solution and won't be part of the solution in a couple of years. Theilbar has done nothing wrong to get sent down.
  4. If you would have told me before the Boston series that Boston would only score 5 runs, I would have bet that we would have swept them, not us getting swept.
  5. This is my exact thought. The problem with this is that the big aces usually don't hit free agency. Scherzer said he is going to test it and look what he turned down from Detroit. Not that I would want the Twins to go after either, but you have to go after one, I would target Scherzer over Price. Scherzer and Price will both command a contract the Twins wont offer but at least you don't have to trade anything in order to offer the contract.
  6. I was hoping the Twins would have taken a look at him in spring training. I always liked him. I am glad someone took a chance on him otherwise I would have still been beating that drum. I guess now we know. Now, I would keep Fuld over Sizemore.
  7. What I liked about Gwynn is that he was one of those super stars that played for one team. Puckett and Ripken also did and they are a dying breed. I realize guys like Hrbek did this too but I don't put him in the same category as Puckett, Ripken, Gwynn. With Jeter retiring, who will be the next super star to say they have played for only one organization? Mauer? Pedoria? Longoria?
  8. I can't remember where I read it, but one year Tony Gwynn swung and missed like 50 times all year. I grew up when he was in his prime but I didn't realize he stole 56 bases in 1987 and 40 in 1989.
  9. I think the only way Keuchel makes the team is if Altuve is on the DL. That could happen since he was hit in the hand yesterday. Otherwise, Altuve, if healthy, should be their rep. There could be an outside shot Springer could get in.
  10. That was from the Roger Dorn school of fielding.
  11. Does anyone else hate the fact that Escobar has to move to 2B? Nunez is not a good fielder so why does he get SS? If Escobar is the SS for the short term, why move him to 2B so a worse fielder can play SS? I would think if Nunez is athletic enough to be a SS, he is athletic enough to be a 2B.
  12. Then add in a 4 game series with Chicago at home after the Detroit and Boston series. Right now on the schedule on ESPN has the Twins missing Sale in that 4 game series too.
  13. Will there be a thread dedicated to draft pick signings and tracking if they are over/under slot? IIRC, there was one last year and it was nice to see the updates.
  14. Hmmm, every fifth day or one Sunday in July? I guess every fifth day seems more appealing to me.
  15. Another bullpen arm in Reed!
  16. Per mlbtraderumors, the Indians have already signed Justus Sheffield. They included some tuition money to Vandy in the contract. Does that count towards the pool money or is that just an incentive?
  17. Yes the guys in AAA have had ups and downs. Yes Correia has had his ups and downs (mainly downs this year). The difference between the two is that guys in AAA have a future in Minnesota, Correia does not. He is not going to be worth anything more than a broken bat and maybe a scuffed up ball at the deadline so why wait until then?
  18. It was a few years ago on the Dan Patrick Show on ESPN radio, Patrick and Ron Dibble were playing Harry Carey clips. This was absolutely hilarious. The clip that sticks out in my mind is when, during game action, Harry was trying to spell and pronounce a name backwards. It was a Latin American player. Just listening to him was hilarious. During his spelling and attempted pronunciation, you could here the crowd cheer. Finally there was a break in Harry's dialog and the color guy (Steve Stone possibly?) piped in and filled the audience in. He quickly announced that there was a strike out, a walk, and the cheering was a two run homer.
  19. I agree with you on this. Provus does a nice job. I think he describes the action much like Pat Hughes does from the Cubs. That does make sense since Provus did work with the Cubs. If you think Gladden is bad, try listening to a Braves game and listen to Mark Lemke mumble (which I am currently doing).
  20. Even the highlights on SportsCenter or ESPNNews aren't what they used to be. There are some games where they don't even show anything anymore.
  21. I have never understood the need for a third catcher. So both are in the line up and one gets hurt. Obviously, the DH becomes the catcher and the pitcher bats. If that happens you deal with it for the one game and make a call to Rochester.
  22. How does that work with the retirement community he resides in? Can you sign in and out as you go? Does he have to be home by the 7:45 pm bed time? Are you allowed to use a motorized scooter on the field?
  23. I tend to agree with this with the exception of Kyle Farnsworth. His fastball is a straight as they come and he can get roughed up.
  24. I am lucky enough to get games on AM 570 WNAX out of Yankton SD. They have a huge range stretching as far west as Rapid City, SD, as far south as St. Joseph MO, as far east as Minneapolis. I can pick it up on the south side of the cities when we go. I also have the audio package from MLB and it is worth the $20. I enjoy listening to games from all over so for me, it is worth the investment.
  25. I would be happy with Gordon, Jackson, any one of the big three pitchers that probably won't be there at 5, or that Touki Toussant.
