  1. All of this just re-emphasizes just how much Pineda's bonehead move has cost the team. If he were still available the Twins starters would look totally different. Its really hard not to have real bad feelings about Pineda. Also somewhat surprised how many appear to feel Berrios goes in game one. Lately what I have been hearing more and more is Odorizzi gets game one (especially after Berrios' terrible outing last time) But who knows. In any event I can't see Odorizzi pitching Sunday. Dobnak as a possible starter, somewhere, seems pretty reasonable, given our limited options. I don't think Harper deserves a spot. Lots to think about.
  2. My 'eyes' would say, if I dropped in from outer space and watched this past series...and saw the guys the Royals have, I would not think of them as a 100 loss team. they just seem better than that...at least against us...we never seem to be able to just 'blow them away'. (is that a function of them or us!!!) (I think Garver and Sano combine for 65 HR's, right?) Do I think Tigers are as bad a s 109 losses? Indeed, And I hope the Twins have no problems adding to that total.
  3. But I think they really want him for game 1 unless Berrios suddenly turns into Justin Verlander 2019 in his last start.
  4. I can't imagine any scenario that has Odorizzi making his start on Sunday....except the Twins not making post season. He has to be our game one starter...or game two...and neither will happen if he pitches on Sunday. I'd give him a start on Wednesday or Thursday. But never Sunday (unless also that game is needed to clinch the division) In reviewing the plusses and minuses of the week, don't forgot Castro's terrible AB's. If Garver is hurt and both Castro and Astudillo both slumping..this would be the first time all season the Twins would not have offense from behind the plate.
  5. I think Smeltzer should also be considered as a possible starter. He can pitch more than 2 or 3 innings and right now looks to be more effective than Gib, Perez, and a few of the bullpen pitchers, who are summarily playing themselves off the team. Milwaukee was not a total failure with their bullpen usage in the playoffs last year. Might be our only hope. Was not at all surprised by Romero's awful outing...he has been awful all year with zero command of whatever stuff he allegedly has. but Romo did surprise me with his lack of control. Will Twins hold Kepler out all week? Has Wade displaced Cave? Will Twins bring 12 or 13 pitchers to round one (assuming they get there) Will they leave Perez and/or Gibson off the roster for round one? Does Astudillo get a slot? Are we very pleased at how Marwin jumped back into play demonstrating his value to the team? Is Adrianza done? Anyone concerned with Rocco's use of his bullpen? Can Twins not choke against the 109 loss Tigers? Are the 100 loss Royals so much better than their record? MLB now has 4 teams with 100+ losses and 3 with 100+ wins. If Twins manage to win 4 more, will this be the first time MLB has had 4 100+ winners and losers in one season?
  6. Well they win it but this pitching staff is in deep trouble unless Rocco is willing to let the likes of Littell, May Stashak and Duffey pitch more than one inning. The rest of these guys belong on the golf course
  7. This inning is pure ridiculousness. Why is it so hard to throw strikes with a 6 run lead?
  8. Castro--no comment. And because he can't hold on to the ball...a bases loaded walk. Twins making this final game at home turn ugly.
  9. You can have all the stuff in the world but if you can't get it over the plate consistently, its totally useless.
  10. 3 walks with a 6 run lead. Rocco should never ever bring this guy in to a game....again. All you need to do is throw strikes and let them swing. This season has been a total trainwreck for this guy. Try again next year.
  11. Come on Romero....6 run lead...throw strikes for Pete's sake
  12. Think this guy can somehow hold a 6 run lead?
  13. Do we think the Twins will bring Cruz back for another season?
  14. I think that Wade is winning the post season position...probably away from Cave who hasn't hit a lick in the last 15 games. He has totally disappeared and it could cost him a spot on the roster. If Kepler can't go, then Cave is safe
  15. How often does a 'closer' come in in a non save situation, and not pitch well? A lot it seems. don't really know why Rogers started the 9th...seems like they just sort of 'wasted' him last night. I thought Duffey could have gone 2 innings and Romo could pitch the 9th. But I'm not the manager. We got our hats handed to us. Win Sunday and we get the series and reduce the magic number to 3 or 2. My concern and I'm sure everyone else's is can this team complete once post season starts? Sure would be depressing if we were to go 3 and out in the first round.
  16. If someone had said that with Berrios and Rogers in the game, the Twins would lose by 7, I wouldn't have believed it. The 9th inning was tough to watch. 'Hindenberg' was a mess and that should be the end of this season for him. Like Romero, this has been a wasted year. Rosario showed lack of plate discipline and hustle again last night. On such an ugly finish, we still lopped off one more game from the magic number. Still, in preparing for post season, winning is more important in the big picture. Win today and we take 3 of 4, which is OK.
  17. Well if Cleveland loses, no harm no foul I guess. tonite two of our best pitchers couldn't get it done.
  18. Castro with a single! Kepler runs for him! Lets bring him around
  19. Lets get the go ahead run this inning.
  20. Think Rocco will let Duffey pitch the 8th? He didn't throw too many pitches in the 7th. Now...lets get the go ahead run.
  21. There is a dedicated article about him...and there the critics ran wild. Mostly that there is no way he is a .340 hitter. Well this year he is and no one knows what next year will bring. Lets not hang him before he has a few seasons under his belt.
