  1. Not a surprise for those of us that assumed Falvey and Levine did their best to make it work.
  2. You don't know that for sure. But fine, Friedman texts and says,'final offer - De Leon + Player X.' Who is the least-heralded Player X that you say yes to? You seem to be saying there's a line somewhere. Where is it?
  3. Keep it simple. Friedman texts you and says, 'De Leon straight up or I get Forsythe.' That's a pretty straightforward yes/no question. I think if you're going to question the front office on this you have to say it's 'yes' - take what you can get, or 'no' - the offer still needs to be reasonable. We don't know the exact details but the real issue here is whether you take what you can get or require something close to fair value.
  4. But if no one makes a serious offer, what can the Twins do?
  5. The whole "fear" meme is silly but you are really trying to have it both ways - continually implying the Twins made a bad decision while also saying that we can't know for sure without knowing what was on the table. Following your line of reasoning, why won't you state that you'd have taken De Leon for Dozier, straight up? If not, why not? Because all of the arguments you make seem to support taking the best available deal. Well, maybe that was the best offer the Twins ever got or ever will get for Dozier. What then?
  6. I was nearly banned for how I expressed my scathing views on the prior regime, so I don't have a problem with reacting to Twins news, non-news, etc. I'm just saying that the disappointment and criticism from some quarters seems unreasonable under the circumstances. New leadership takes over a moribund organization that has to be overhauled from top to bottom . . . signing a random 6th inning reliever is just not very important in the scheme of things. At a minimum, I don't see how conclusions can be reached at this stage. If half the bullpen in June is made up of AAAA guys that suck and have no trade value, sure, look back and point out that it would have made more sense to sign 1 or 2 guys. It's the rush to judgment I can't understand.
  7. Sure, but there are only so many bullpen spots. You can speculate about trade potential for the guys they already have - Kintzler, Pressly, etc. Either way, that is really, really small potatoes. It's crazy to say Falvey is blowing it by not signing a reclamation project middle reliever. There are some posters who want moves for the sake of moves.
  8. Yes, that was one example. You then said "bullpen arms," which is plural and implies a general interest in upgrading the bullpen. I assume a post means what it says. Anyway, I'm just trying to understand - your criticism of Falvey is that he didn't sign Tolleson? Or one of maybe a few comparable players? What is the track record of guys like that bringing back actual prospects at the deadline? Legit question, I have no idea.
  9. Well you said "My area of focus would have been bullpen targets" not that you would only take fliers. But since I'm not a mind-reader, I couldn't infer that and I still don't see the rationale behind it. Do you mean as a possible trade chit for a minor deadline deal? Otherwise, who cares? What is the point of the flyer?
  10. They have space in their bullpen. And every team in baseball has space for someone on the staff who is really good.
  11. Why? Bullpen spending is for teams looking to contend, and the Twins have relief arms they may as well try out anyway.
  12. Another outfielder for what purpose? I'm not sure I understand what you want them to be shooting for in 2017 . . .
  13. If the new front office should, in your opinion, be moving "better" and "faster," that sure seems like you're already drawing some conclusions. I just don't see how you can do that based on the information that is publicly available.
  14. That's a distinction without a difference . . . I was strongly in favor of new leadership for years, even when people got their hopes up falsely in 2015. Now that Falvey and Levine are in place, saying that it's business as usual is basically an indictment of those two before they have had an opportunity to really change things.
  15. It's very rare for a low-strikeout minor league pitcher to pan out at all. I did some looking at one point and wasn't able to come up with a SP comp that would show a path for Stewart. Maybe as a reliever.
  16. There is no evidence to support this. Opinions are split among outside prospect evaluators, some of whom prefer several other Dodgers' prospect to De Leon. Actual MLB offices may be even more in favor of guys like Alvarez & Bellinger.
  17. The criticism of Falvey and Levine is 100% predicated on the idea that there are unknown 'things' they could have done to improve the state of the organization. However, none of these criticisms is supported by any facts or concrete analysis. Sure, I'd have dumped Danny Santana by now, but what is the impact of them not dumping him yet? Realistically, there is zero impact. Now, if May stays in the bullpen, I'll be very displeased. There's a meaningful and concrete issue. Non-existent trade opportunities and the like? Not so much.
  18. I'm not sure what your point is here - I hope you're not suggesting baseball fans need to rigorously apply the Rules of Evidence to discuss rumors? There were reports that the Twins were offered more than De Leon, and it logically makes sense. There's no "proof" that the Dodgers ever made the Twins any formal offer at all, if you want to be really technical about it. If something has been reported by decent journalists and is supported by multiple other factors, it's reasonable for the purposes of discussion to assume it's true. Otherwise all trade discussions would be precluded as overly reliant on hearsay, etc. So your viewpoint was really out of place in this context.
  19. Dozier and Sale aren't prospects. Most pitching prospects traded in the history of MLB never wound up in MLB.
  20. He talks about it all the time in chats and podcasts. Doesn't necessarily write feature articles on it.
  21. Again, then why not put him in the bullpen? That would make a ton of sense for JDL. No one knows for sure, but the Dodgers have the best guess. That's the bottom line. I have nothing against JDL so I'm not rooting for it, but I would be shocked if he panned out at all. Smart teams make a living trading away the right pitching prospects.
  22. No, only that the Twins would think JDL was good enough, as a main piece. Which is completely different and has no bearing on the fact that, if he's legit, the Dodgers could have used him extensively in 2017.
  23. Fair point about starting the year in the rotation, except again, some of their starter candidates are going to wind up in the bullpen anyway. They had all kinds of options . . . not trading out of their MLB depth, or trading someone other than De Leon, or waiting until mid-season to pick up a 2nd baseman. Yet they marketed De Leon specifically to at least two teams, probably more than that, and there was never a peep about alternatives. The evidence therefore supports the idea that the Dodgers wanted to deal De Leon specifically, despite their full range of options. There is no way they would be so set on trading an elite prospect. The Dodgers just didn't love De Leon's future that much.
  24. That's not right. My point is this - based off what we know, De Leon + junk was the minimum offer on the table. Maybe it was a bit more. But we know it was at least De Leon + junk because the Dodgers gave up De Leon for Forsythe, and would at least have given up a bit more for Dozier. In other words, we know basically what the low end of possibilities was. We do not know what is realistic on the high end - I think it's safe to say nothing too amazing. So, to sum it up, there is zero evidence the Twins turned down a good offer or otherwise blew the trade. None. That's why criticizing the front office for it is logically untenable. It's possible that with more information, that would change, but as of now that's not the situation.
