  1. Has anyone seen the Royals OF? We could trade them Larnarch for Schreiber or one of their other relievers and throw in a little cash to balance the trade budget or add a lottery prospect. A trade like that could be win win The Royals for their part have several solid middle relievers. The best part about this for the Pohlads is the budget doesn't change or it goes down a little If the Twins were able to save 2 million in payroll, maybe they could find enough change in the couch cushions to spring for Kopech!.
  2. Injuries hurt the team. Last year was Wallner, Keaschal, Lewis, Ober and Pablo Lopez. We need the IF guys to be healthy as we have less depth there. we also need Lopez to pitch 180 + innings this year and Ober to be able to get over 165 innings with a sub 4 ERA. Getting more offense at C with Cartini and 1B with Bell will help. We need another reliever and then it will come down to getting a reliever or two developed and we then a competitive team.
  3. Thielbar was a minor league signing that pitched in 238 games with 221.33 innings and he had 268 Ks. He went 18-9 and saved 4 games with a 3.66 ERA. Salary for 5 seasons of pitching for the Twins totaled just over 7.5 million. That seems like a top 5 deal to me.
  4. While not included in the trade but the 5.625 million saved was the exact amount Santana signed for the next day. So if you don't give the trade credit for Santana you can give it credit for the cash saved.
  5. My favorite trade is a minor one. Actually there were two of these trades. The Twins traded with both Anaheim and Seattle and gave them nothing other than the ability to spend more money internationally for a second round draft pick and 5th round pick. Only the C Banuelos ever played in the majors for Baltimore. Pearson never .made it far. These trades were made possible because these two teams wanted extra cash to sign Ohtani Another top 5 move was talking Theilbar out of retirement and giving it another go and he pitched quite a few years as an effective reliever on a minor league contract.
  6. I agree we need to sign 1 or two more arms for the pen. I think we need someone who can give us an ok floor with league average pitching. Or preferably better but at minimum league average.
  7. I would like to see the Twins get 1 more major league reliever. I am not too picky. Someone who can pitch with a league average ERA.for stability in the pen. I would even be fine with resigning Tonkin to a 1 year 1 million deal. We can always trade or release him if youth is successful and we need another slot for a younger reliever.
  8. Those teams all have set plans that they operate from. The Twins plan is a moving budgetary target. Falvey starts operating one way then gets a bigger budget and.then the budget gets slashed and slashed again and ...The Guardians and Tampa and Brewers don't have near the variance. The Twins tried splashy moves to increase fan interest too. It wasn't just for baseball but for marketing too and it didn't work. I don't think we should be the outlierest team to succeed either.
  9. 2020 did Falvey in, The team lost money and the prospects were set back. After resetting in the draft we have quite a few top prospects at AAA. Falvey is the fall guy for the last Pohlad in charge. It would be interesting to see how he would operate with a 180-200 million payroll.
  10. Except this years team is looking ok with a lower budget. COVID-19 and the TV deal fallout hurt revenue's. So did cutting payroll. But it looked like things were trending in the right direction for this season with one or two more relievers the roster would be set with a strong rotation and decent bench and decent group of position players with 4 strong prospects at AAA. And in the pen we would have potential with a few converted starters and depth. Not as good a pen as last year but passable considering the budget. I know I may be in the minority but I am not a fan of this move at this time. If a teardown occurs, I will be out as a fan.
  11. I guess the Twins thought we got the ceiling of Ohio last year. Though it would be nice to see how he would do in one inning stints. But I do think Adams has more potential but at least Ohi is achieving his .. Another difference between Ohio and Adams is the larger investment in Adams. While not too much it is noteable. I6th round signing bonus vs 14th round. What is that 250k - 500k?
  12. See Doug Jones and Jamie Moyer. Moyer's fast all was 81 in his last season but sat in the 80's his last decade or more in baseball.
  13. Wallner has 2 half seasons of 2.2 WAR so a ceiling of 4 is possible. I think 3-3.5 is likely over 500 ABs in a season. Lewis could break out with the 5 WAR. Probably based on past power with over .900 OPS. More likely.850 cap over a full season. And 3.5 WAR Getting some decent outings from the bullpen is critical to a 90 win season.
  14. Our current team is pretty good if both Lewis and Wallner are both 25-35 HR hitters with 90+ RBIs. lee needs to be average defense and offense and if we sign another reliever or two our own can be around average . What I'm saying is they could be competitive. Cleveland and Kansas City or Detroit for that matter hasn't done much to improve over last season. I think we are close to having a shot with what is left in free agency and what we have in the minors, I think we should be patient and let the reliever who sees the opportunity to win here decide that is more important than a slightly better offer.
  15. I'm just glad Ryan is signed. Let's celebrate that for a moment and then push for management to sign a reliever or two to close out the offseason..
  16. The guy on the 1 year contract will either be replaced after the trade deadline or season by a top prospect likely a top 100 prospect. That's the long-term vision thingy we are talking about.
  17. Considering how little Falvey has to work with, He has done a good job so far plugging holes. Cartini C Bell 1B, Arcia or the guy from Boston as the backup SS, and Rogers for the pen. We need more pen but we can get it. All for around 17-18 million so far with only 7 million committed for 2027.
  18. Maybe all of these moves are designed so that by the end when they do sign IFK we are so excited and relieved that we buy millions of tickets to home games in show of support.
  19. So they were 10th in the league and can get improvement from Wallner and Lewis and a full season of Keaschal and 1B is improved. That is 4 out of 9 positions plus C is improved with Vazquez replacement is a much better hitter. Are you sure that won't move the needle to slightly above average? That is a lot of improvement and we have several prospects ready to jump in as a plan B or in case of injury..
  20. They have a good rotation and slightly above average offense. Probably in the 5-7 ranking in runs scored in the league this year.... And with another good reliever they will have an ok pen. To me they should be able to win in the 82-85 range and depending on rookies maybe a little more.
  21. Great signing 👍! I approve! Now we need 1 more major league arm and a few more minor league signings to compete for a spot and we should be ready to roll. I expect the Twins to have 2 or 3 rookies in the pen. We have too many talented pitchers vying for a rotation spot. But having a group that can keep leads when we have them can help keep the season interesting. At least above .500
  22. no one talked about the timeline that Jackson was acquired when the Twins had no budget. So that we had a backup. The Twins now have a deep lineup and bench and rotation. We have lots of options for the bullpen. I think we sign 2 solid relievers or 3 is better and we go into the season as Contenders for the division title. I am wondering if the Twins keep Jackson as the third C and insurance in case we need a back up next year.
  23. At the beginning of the offseason the Twins didn't have a budget to work with. THey needed a backup C. with not being sure of what they had to work with they went out and got a low cost backup, Alex Jackson. Then the Twins got the new minority owner approved and fixed financials a little and had the opportunity to upgrade the backup C spot. so they signed Victor Cartini. and now the Twins have options. Do they trade Jackson for a minor return? Do they trade Jeffers for a bigger return? (Tampa Bay is looking for a C and has a few good relievers we could use. maybe we trade a package deal of Larnarch and Jackson to Tampa or Jackson and Clemens or just Jeffers. Or maybe its something else. lots of options here and it reminds me of the choose your own adventure books. My money is on the Twins keeping all three Cs going into spring training and trading Jackson if no one gets hurt. The Twins prefer C to be a strong position for the team. Its always been a priority.
