  1. The OF is going to be Willingham, Pressley, Arcia with Mastroianni on the bench unless Hicks earns the CF job then it will come down to who is hitting better Pressley or Doumit. If Pressley is better then Willingham can DH and Pressley slides to LF with Hick taking over CF till Buxton is ready then it will be a competition between Pressley and Hicks for LF. I don't really see where we need to upgrade here. We have adequate across the board with potential improvements coming up. The variable is if the Twins make a move such as signing Michael Young or someone else who can hit and play multiple positions.
  2. The A's were Willinghams last team. Suppose the Twins trade him and his 7 million contract back to Oakland for Anderson and his 8 million contract? That is something Beane would do since he already has the money spent. Both players have questions marks going into next year.
  3. Also Michael Young is a good low cost option for a player to sign for our offense as he can play a number of positions, doesn't strike out alot 15% of plate appearances, can be signed short term 1 year, won't cost alot 3-5 million, and hits for a decent average, and provides leadership the Twins are after.
  4. If Buxton starts next season at AA, and he continues to hit like last year then he will be a candidate to be promoted up after 300 +- plate appearances. I think he will either be up after the allstar break or they will wait till 2015. the Twins won't call him up next September because he won't have to be put on the 40 man roster over the winter and next year we likely won't have any/ many AAAA players we can jettison to make roster space. THis is similar to what happened to Sano this last September. He didn't get the call up for the same reason.
  5. I am all for signing Garza or an other pitcher that can help. As for when the other pitchers are ready to come up from the minors... We can always trade Hughes, Nolasco or Garza for a position player or other prospects. Why not get an asset for now and flip it for something useful later when we have other options.
  6. Improve the offense: 1. Promote Sano when he is ready 2. return to health for Willingham 3. Presely or Hicks in CF Buxton up at either allstar break or September 4. Arcia's continued development 5. Pinto and I guess Buck at C so we'll need to sign Buck to a 1 or 2 year deal. 6. that leaves Doumit at DH. we could/ should sign someone like Michael Young who can DH and play multiple positions to a 1 year deal and either trade Doumit or move to the bench. CF Presely 2B Dozier 1B Mauer LF Willingham RF Arcia 3b Plouffe/ Sano DH Young C Pinto/ Buck SS Florimon This should be a solid lineup pending health and improvement of some of the younger guys.
  7. We can always trade a pitcher in a salary dump like Fister...so sign him for now and trade one later when the need arises... Money or rotation spot for someone younger and better.
  8. The Twins only need an average rotation to have an above average pitching staff as the bullpen is pretty good. so do we get a 5th starter? I dont see why not. Also dont forget Johnson. TR has said that he is a better Diamond so he probably has more potential. THe other question is will the offense improve enough with just the incomming internal improvements or should we go out and get 1 bat. More specifically will Doumit provide enough offense this year as he was terrible last year and doesn't look like a catcher going forward. and if he is not enough who do we get to replace him in the line up?
  9. Anderson's value has dropped since they turned down Will Myers as his cost is higher and he has hardly pitched the last few years so he will likely not pitch more than 160 innings this year if the team that gets him plans on keeping him the following year.
  10. With the numbers thrown around earlier, I am surprised that Salty didnt get more. I expected at least a 3/27 or 30 for him. Buck is also available to catch and really all the Twins need is someone who can catch 80 -100 games and Pinto can do the rest as far as Catching goes. Hopefully the Twins can now go out and sign a bat that can DH/3B such as Young or Reynolds and get another quality starter too.
  11. Burton stands to make over 3 million which would balance the trade dollars a little. or we could trade any of our relievers and add Diamond or Worely and get cash back in the deal. We could even add another reliever who is a prospect in the minors if we can get a few million back. that would make the payroll adjustment around 3-4 million for next year.
  12. Looks like the Twins were not expecting to pay Salty....looks like Miami is about to sign him to a 3 year 21-22 million contract. if the Twins bid 24-25 and lost ok but why would anyone want to sign with a team that Loria owns? I know he's from 70 miles away from the ballpark but still. [h=1]Marlins Close To Deal With Saltalamacchia[/h]By Steve Adams [December 3 at 4:27pm CST] 4:27pm: Juan C. Rodriguez of the Miami Sun-Sentinel reports that the Marlins have offered three years and $21MM (Twitter link). Passan hears that the Marlins are "closing in" on a deal with Saltalamacchia that is in the three-year, $22MM range.
  13. mlbtraderumors has a reporter in Denver saying salty going to Marlins. in the post above that it says the Twins have inquired on the A's Brett Anderson.
  14. no like the movie...
  15. What was your next best offer and who made it? What are some of the factors you took into considering your choices for signing. I see you have a nice sports car for your avatar on Twitter. what are your favorite kinds of cars and will you get one with this new contract signed?
  16. Michael Young cause he can fill in at 3B, 2b, and 1b if someone gets hurt. A solid contact hitter who could DH or allow Plouffe to go to LF and Willingham to DH. Doesn't strike out a lot and would be inexpensive if guaranteed playing time. Could hit .280/.330/.420 or around a .730-.770 OPS. Twins type of player, been in playoffs several times recently, and Twins were interested in acquiring him a few years ago. Also a short term contract of 1 year or 1 with option. This is a case where we get a professional hitter on a short term deal who is average which is a lot better than we trotted out last season as evidenced by the 614 team runs scored last season. or the equivalent of the offensive version of Corriea. another choice is Reynolds the power hitter who can DH, 3B, and 1B. He can be spelled at times so others can DH and be held out of the lineup with tough RH pitching. and he wont cost a ton either. We don't really need relievers but Neshek and Mijares are bot FA again....kidding about Mijares but I would be interested in Neshek on a low cost deal maybe...
  17. He looks to be the third best option of whats left of the free agent market. A slight downgrade from Navarro but has enough power to sign.
  18. AJ is a perfectly good sign for the team. we can sign him for 1 or 2 years as he can transition to the backup Catcher the 2nd year if his offense falls too much. Yes there are other options so signing one with offensive potential is fine too. So is trading for one. AJ is 2nd on my list behind Salty. So if the Twins are going to go the free agent route you cant go wrong with the devil you had. The contract will be short enough not to be too much of an albatross either.
  19. That was a cheap shot by the Cubs catcher. I am even unbiased on this one. If he wasn't blocking the plate then i would understand...
  20. You guys need to quit with the mentoring thing as we have Mauer and Steinbach who can do that we just need someone who can play and definately hit. Our offense is the huge ? now that we have 4 decent enough starters and a deep bullpen. We scored 614 runs last season good for 14th place in a 15 team league. We will need to be in the 700 to 720 range to be in the vicinity of a .500 team. I would be good with AJ on a 1 or 2 year deal. I am also good with Toronto's catcher if he can catch a decent game. The onbase is a little too low for me however. Salty is fine. I could care less about the contract the catcher we get signs.
  21. You can rest assured if Deduno is healthy the spot is his to lose in the rotation meaning he will leave spring training if healthy with the rotation spot. I wouldn't be too worried about loosing one of Diamond or Worely. I would be more concerned with making sure we have as many options available in spring for the rotation so if we loose Worely and Diamond in the spring if they dont make the team and Albers now cause we designate him then we loos several options or another way to put it if we loose Albers now we handcuff ourselves in the spring because we mostly have pitchers who are out of options available and must stay on the roster. of course we have Johnson who TR calls a better Diamond....., Darnell, and Gibson available. If we sign another starter it wont likely matter who we let go as long as we have a planned 6th and 7th starter.
  22. Deunsing will get between 1.9 million and 2.0 million. I can see him being traded in the next week to clear a roster spot. I can also see him still pitching here as well. I do not see him being non-tendered because he does have trade value. Even if it is for a low A c prospect at best. Swarzak will get between 900k and a Million. I would say the 800k is accurate from MLBtraderumors but he pitched so many innings from the pen that performance warrants a higher salary. Being in the pen warrants the increase be small. Plouffe 2.1 million seems about right this is the one I have given the least thought to. I know I shouldn't but I already see him as gone when Sano arrives. I would almost be ok with just letting him go and bringing up Diebenson (I know I misspelled this) Romero after last weeks spending splurge. It would only be for 2-3 months anyways. The only reason I am against it is because Plouffe can play elsewhere if need be (injury to others) and the 6 week power surge 2 years ago.
  23. I didn't like the signing because it felt like TR was giving up 2 season back to back with this signing. I expected a 4.5-5.0 ERA in close to 180 innings. So Corriea was better than expected but not that much better. The Problem I had was we had the money and need to go after better pitchers and didn't. That was depressing. With the past history there was no hope for the Twins to pull off the type of signings that they just did last week which was what was needed last year. And we new Corriea was going to be the best pitcher we got and that made us mad. Thats why people quit going to games too this year. So a lot of frustration for the Twins unwillingness to go after starting pitchers boiled up and was taken out on Corriea. So the real question is did anyone apologize to Corriea for us taking our frustrations out on him when he signed here?
  24. The only reason to cut Worely is because we have several pitchers who are out of options so if we cut a pitcher with options remaining then loose Worely and Diamond at the end of spring training you loose depth for that 6th and 7th starter you want to have ready in the minors.
  25. I would think Worely could be let go as he was terrible all season and in AAA and then injured. If I remember right he needed an attitude adjustment too once he was sent down. There are several players without options fighting for one spot. I would think Albers would remain on the roster since he pitched well last season in Minnesota and has options remaining. If we remove him then loose both Diamond and Worely at the end of spring training when they don't make the team we could loose a lot of depth for that 6th and 7th starter at one time. Diamond could also be let go because TR may feel Johnson is a better version of him. So my final answers are Deunsing and Worely.
