  1. Does anyone know how many innings Romero is going to pitch this year? He isn't far from the 90 he threw last year.
  2. This was supposed to be an opportunity to improve our pitching depth. Even with extra money for next pick we cant do as good as taking best pitcher available. Highly disappointing. But we do have a track record with toolsy OF...i mean SS for now...still very disappointing
  3. Mauer was better than the consesus number 1 talent in that draft...
  4. Time for Belisle to go. I hate to say it. I wanted to see him get his era down to the high 4s but i don't see that as a possibility anymore. Not worth a spot at his production level. Though we could swing a trade and restart the Neshek era again.

    Mauers New Contract

I would offer a 2 year 16 to 20 million. Based on obp. That is hos key stat. We need more .360 + obp in the lineup. Add incentives for plate appearance for another 1 to 3 million per season depending on base salary. He will be 36. I suppose a 3 year offer can go on the table.
  6. Since everyone has a second baseman we may be able to extend Dozier at a reasonable cost. 4 years at 48 to 56 million. 12-14 per season. He could play some 2B, 1B, DH and let Mauer who may re-sign for much less after 2018 to be more of a platoon bat mostly DH/ 1B. just that there will be a 1.5 season period where either Polanco or Gordon gets shafted in this process some with some of their playing time taken away and playing out of position. With Dozier a career Twin he will post nice career numbers of 350 or so HR and around 200 SB and over 1000+ runs scored. That would be nice.
  7. Its a short term fix till someone is healthy, ready to be promoted or till we decide if we should trade fir someone.
  8. We identified the bullpen as needing upgrades. If they went and traded for a reliver a few weeks ago we could be a game or 2 or possibly 3 better, since there were several bullpen meltdowns. So lets go get a reliver and see if we need to get another starter soon.
  9. Santiago has really struggled since comming out of the pen and getting the loss a few weeks ago
  10. The return would need to be big, like near Sale kind of return. I mean we are in contention still right? Santana would still be a good value for us next year too. We would definately need a starting pitcher prospect in the package.
  11. and Thorpe seems to be getting back on track as well. I am also going on record as saying Sledgers is a capable back of rotation guy.
  12. My thought is to bolster the pen then at the deadline we can decide to go for it or not and trade for a starting pitcher....Vargas or Clayton Richards or someone along those lines.
  13. Adam wainwright has missed over 2 seasons, jamie garcia, several relievers ad there was 1 other starter off the top of my head.
  14. GIbson came back up cause Hughes went on DL and there was no one else
  15. Finding 3 more effective but nit shut down relievers would be the Terry Ryan rotation approach. His goal was 5 starters to pitch 180 to 200 innings a year and have a good bullpen to get a better than average pitching staff
  16. And Kintzler is fine as closer. 14 out of 16 is around the major league average. The problem with the pen is not enough effectuve arms. Only 4 arms you can reasonably rely on but none shut down. We need an ace bullpen guy. How can we expect to win any games at all without an ace in the pen.. (being sarcastic sorry) but having a shut down reliever would help. Also perkins is getting closer what is he a month out? I wouldnt expect him to be shut down but he can help.
  17. Hughes needs to stay in the rotation cause we need help there too. Its cheaper to aquire relievers vs starters.
  18. Im ok with a "Hu" for Neshek type of move. He is available and wouldnt cost too much. I am also for bringing up from the minors though leave Romero in a rotation. He just missed 2 years with injury. Better to not mess with him like that. Broxton and Dyson have been DFA so we can try them too. Broxton is having a Pressley like season. Ks check 96 fastball check results 7 era.
  19. We have 4 solid arms in the garbage that is currently our relief corps. I do think Pressley can get it turned around and be number 5. the others are Rogers, Kintzler, Duffey and Breslow. Adding Neshek leaves us 1 reliever short. or 2 till Pressley gets back on track. And i think Neshek could be had next year on a reasonable 1 or 2 year contract. 3-4 million per season since he'll be at home. That still leaves us room to brink up relief pitcher prospects and give tryouts and enough to try to win games with. and if by the deadline we need another reliever we can go out and get another one then.
  20. Getting an arm or 2 however and were in business i think. But we have to act.
  21. Cool thanms for your input. I wanted to see what a consensus fair value is for him. I imagine that if we traded Melotakis for him Philly wkuld probably pick up half of whats left on the contract. Also i dont think a move like that hurts us long term either. I would do that to bolster the pen and then wait and see what we have. As of right now we are not co tenders as we are a few pieces short. Namely in the pen.
  22. I'm thinking a decent prospect like Wells or a strong reliver like Melotakis.
