  1. I think Terry Ryan should have a statue outside of the stadium and I'm serious about that. The man will always have my respect but even if you added up his aggressiveness over every single year of his time in the aggregate. It would not equal this off season all by itself. The most aggressive off seasons for the Twins were during years that TR wasn't here. Lavine and then you go all the way back to Smith. I'm not saying aggressiveness is always the right move but it's pretty clear that Terry Ryan was never close to the definition... right or wrong.
  2. Mark my words... In the Future... Not only will platoons be something you will have to explain to your grand kids like rotary phones. the bench player will also be gone... the getaway day guy will no longer be part of the 25 man roster. With each passing year... with improved training, the sport of baseball will over flow with increased numbers of capable talent. Lefties will hit Lefties... Righties will hit Righties. 25 Man Rosters will have strong talent from top to bottom. Positional Flexibility will be the thing so Managers can work everyone into the lineup. That is why I founded the "Baseball Player Positional Flexibilty Club" in April of 2016. Just two members so far but I expect there to be a rush from the next generation.
  3. Yeah... Therefore we need to grab as many left-handers as possible to keep them off the rosters of the other teams.
  4. 24 Year Olds can eat metal garbage cans and carry on just fine. The price for his lifestyle comes later.
  5. Welcome to the middle Brock. It's a great place to be.
  6. You and Chief are starting to meld into one organism. You may be way too far along in the process to stop it. I'm not sure what your wives are going to think about it but you may want to let them know what is happening.
  7. I agree with you... I also wanted Darvish but that uncomfortable feeling of lack of faith in Lynn or Odorizzi matching up is just projecting it forward. Kyle Gibson could be our World Series Hero this year. After we win the title of course. I've seen too many unsung heroes every single post season and too many ordinary to sub-par performances from the superstars to feel comfortable with those uncomfortable feelings. Enrique Hernandez of the Dodgers killed the Cubs last year while I was wondering who he was. Charlie Morton was vital against the Dodgers and he wouldn't have produced that faith when he was signed. Chris Sale and Zach Greinke were rather horrible in the 2017 playoffs. Roberto Perez and Coco Crisp were surprising producers for the Indians in 2016 while Clayton Kershaw struggled. 2015 was Daniel Murphy's coming out party. It was the opposite for David Price. David Freese in 2011 and David Eckstein in 2006 were World Series MVP's.
  8. They absolutely gotta do it again next year... They gotta do it again every time they gotta make a decision... which might be daily.
  9. There are times when it is nice to have a lefty but it isn't completely necessary. If you consider that rotation and keeping starters on schedule trumps adjusting the rotation to force a lefty to start against the lefty heavy team. It probably doesn't matter that much. Starters got to get through them all for at least a couple of times through the rotation. It's hard to platoon the starter... they gotta get both sides of the plate out.
  10. I think you'll find a wide variety of opinions on TwinsDaily. I once typed that my leg hurt and someone responded with "no it doesn't".
  11. Might be the reason why he settled for a 1 year deal. Might have found longer terms not coming his way. Twins might be giving him a chance to stabilize things post TJ for a bigger pay day. I like a guy getting a chance to prove himself with a chip on his shoulder. As long as there are no problems with his shoulder.
  12. I don't know but give me the over!!! (High Five)
  13. At least I didn't have to continually hit the next button. The Twins will win the AL CENTRAL!!! Wild Card is in the rear view mirror.
  14. I'm trying to be positive and happy And you got to go all Hector on us. Listen... Hector is left handed and everyone knows that lefties do not follow the rules of nature like right handers do.
  15. Crowns can be purchased at Crown's R Us... when you decide to schedule a coronation.
  16. If his K rate is down and his walk rate and HR Rate is up... Fielding Independent Stats are not going to look good... Especially with a BABIP of .244. However... to think that he was extraordinarily lucky and we are talking nearly unprecedented type luck for his difference between ERA and FIP... Is also not considering that he has never had an ERA Below 4.00 in his career. Somehow Someway... Lance Lynn seems to get it done.
  17. The Red Wings Rotation is spilling over the edges. I love it. These guys will have to compete for the phone call. We used to place the phone call and there was nobody there to answer it.
  18. Needed to clear a 40 man spot for Lynn. I was thinking that Anibal might be the guy. Vargas was the other possibility but the Twins are a little light on Non Pitchers when it comes to the 40 man. So... I was thinking Sanchez... And how bout' that... I was right for once!!!
  19. I believe the American League is weak... I believe the American League has more teams that you can cross off the trying to be competitive list. I believe it quite possible that the Twins can cross the 90 win mark. I thought that before Lance Lynn.
  20. The 2018 money it would have been taken to acquire Darvish has now been spent. Darvish - 22M Odorizzi - 6.3M Sanchez - 2.5M Morrison - 5.5M Lynn - 12M Total 26.3M 23.8M It doesn't matter if these moves work out or not. It doesn't even matter if I agree with the moves. For the record I'm good with them. The front office is showing the willingness to spend and the ability to be creative and the desire to improve the team.
  21. I agree but they will need a 40 man spot. I'm guessing it will be Sanchez or Vargas.
  22. 1 Year 12 Million is what i'm hearing. Lynn should be upgrade over Mejia, Hughes and Sanchez. Turn on the applause sign.
  23. Mr. Clark is getting me a little concerned. From a distance I'm starting to think that the players need new labor lawyers. The Competitive Balance Tax and the sheer numbers of low budget teams are both important factors in my opinion. Trying to determine what is the bigger issue is like trying to decide if it's the Cold Air from Canada or the Warm Air from the Gulf that is more important in the formation of the tornado that ripped through your Barn. From a distance... IMO... Tony Clark should probably try deflect any talk about the Competitive Balance Tax penalty increases because Tony Clark traded that for lesser draft pick compensation for the handful of players who rejected the QO. That's a bad trade... Tony Clark got beat. Jason Castro signed a 3 year 24M dollar deal and a year later Jonathan Lucroy just got a 1 year deal at 6.5m from a tanking team and that kind of says a lot. The Yankees could use a Jake Arrieta or Mike Moustakas. The Dodgers could use a Jake Arrieta. The Giants could use a Jake Arrieta or Eric Hosmer. The Nats could use a Jake Arrieta or Johnathan Lucroy or Greg Holland The Cubs could use a Greg Holland or a Wade Davis for that matter. The Angels could use a Jake Arrieta, Lance Lynn or Alex Cobb The Mariners have needs... so do the Blue Jays. Where are they? Clark can blame the tanking teams all he wants but the tanking teams just signed Moustakas and Lucroy.
  24. When it comes to politics... I'm a single issue guy. I feel that if you can fix campaign finance reform you have a chance of fixing everything else about Washington or St. Paul. IMO... that issue in Baseball for the overall health of the sport is: Hope in Pittsburgh, Hope in Milwaukee, Hope in Kansas City, Hope in Cincinnati, Hope in Tampa, Hope in Oakland, Etc. Those markets may be smaller than New York, Chicago and L.A. but when you add them all up... it get's real significant... real quick.
  25. Here's a slightly comparable example from the trucking industry. The Mega Carriers of the trucking industry are huge, self insured and they will pay truckers with less than one year experience around .20 cents per mile. The Trucker with less than one year experience has very few options because the insurance companies try to restrict the number of inexperienced drivers that the smaller companies can hire. The Mega Carriers have no limits because they are self insured and they also have diminished competition for them because the competition has been capped by insurance... This leaves the inexperienced driver somewhat shackled as they try to gain experience in the industry. Because the inexperienced drivers are paid significantly less. The Mega Carriers can then take that savings and shift it over to how much they can offer the experienced driver. In other words... because they pay the rookie .20 cpm... they can pay the veteran driver .50 cpm when the national average is .40 cpm. Now... what happens when the mega carriers look at the metrics and come to the obvious conclusion that the inexperienced driver are only a slight uptick in accidents/incidents/claim costs compared to the experienced driver? Meaning the inexperienced drivers are almost as good as the experienced drivers. They say... please give me more of those .20 cent drivers.
