    I’m even willing to forgive him for 2018 but I want to him to change for 2019 if possible. To nutshell my main concern. He went down with the ship in my opinion. Some say he didn’t have any other options but I will quote Shakespear. “Even the worm will turn”. Something like that.

    In my opinion... I disagree maybe 100%. I’d like the pressure off of him and I’d like him working on development for 2019 first and foremost. Any determinations of Molitor should be based on his performance prior to becoming a seller.

    Thanks for the list. I was going to do it. For a David Bote comp, we should probably include AAAA guys because Bote is an out of nowhere story, You and I both typed rookie which is kind of limiting and rookie wasn't really the reason I brought him up, it was Bote being nobody. I'd say Centeno, Granite and LaMarre (maybe Cave) would be the closest comps from your list but the list could get bigger still if we listed the "who are these guys" guys which (in my opinion) are closer Bote comps. Granite was a 27th ranked prospect, so he was ranked but I think Granite is a "who are these guys" guy. In 2015: Buxton and Sano were #1 and #2 in the system. Rosario was top ten. I don't feel they are good comps, but I will say this, just to show that I'm capable of objectivity. As I'm started looking through 2015. Molitor and the front office did a pretty good job of adjusting on the fly. They opened 2015 with Santana at SS, Arcia in LF, Schaefer in CF and Vargas at DH. However, a point could still be made that the guys that Molitor/Front office were willing to adjust, were all under 25. I apologize... I didn't have the time to post as comprehensibly as I'd like and I probably won't tonight or tomorrow but I will.

    Have I said that Reed and Pressly and Hildenberger have been over used. I’ve said that Molitor will keep giving them the ball when they are struggling but I haven’t said they were overused. I have looked at the D Backs pen and the Twins Pen usage. My theory is that the games used numbers are high in both cases because they were healthy. Don’t attach that discussion to me. That is others... it’s not mine.

    Bringing up Astundillo isn’t taking me seriously. That’s making your point by being unnecessarily extreme and gives the impression that I’m saying bench Rosario for Astundillo. Happ hasn’t been benched by the Cubs and you said that you are pretty sure Molitor would bench him. Is any part of this post not true?

    Isn’t that what I’m doing? I might not be comparing to the average manager. But old school with new school. But isn’t that what I’m doing. I’m providing examples.

    For clarity... When I made that list... it wasn't my intention to hang anybody specific for anything specific or put them into compartments like that. I was just pointing out the mistakes made and if they preemptively say Austin can't play OF and don't try him in the OF, I've heard that type of thing before and it ended up not being true. So my trust for these professionals is waning. I am attaching the old school label on the Twins. Old School says that Tyler Austin can play either 1B or OF but not both. Old School is taking 3B Nick Castellanos and moving him to RF and never playing him at 3B again. When we suggest playing Austin playing OF... Old School doesn't understand why we don't want him to play 1B. New School says he can play 1B and OF in the same week and do it every week all year... every year. I agree with you on Grossman... If Grossman was chosen for the 25 man and if Grossman plays OF. How Bad does Austin have to be out there to slide under that low bar? I don't even hate Grossman like others here have expressed. I think he is actually contributing at the plate. I've said all along... they selected Grossman for the 25 man roster. He is still on the 25 man roster. That's an endorsement. If they selected him, he should play, you need those guys to step up and play when the others are not playing well and we had a lot of that. We've all heard the saying... "Those who live near the water... eventually end up in the water". Well... Those who live near the Grossman... eventually end up in the Grossman". They chose to live near the Grossman. They did it on purpose.

    I won't deny that... but that is ultimately my point. With all the depth of options that the Cubs undeniably have and the depth of options that the Twins absolutely don't have. It's the Cubs... (in the middle of an intense National League playoff race) who are willing to play a "David Bote" type player.

    Eddie Rosario is batting .210 with a .576 OPS over the last 28 days. Are you sure? BTW... Maddon hasn't benched Happ at this point but Molitor will? Also... Zobrist is batting .356 with a 1.026 OPS over the last 28 days. I did mention both Zobrist and Happ.

    Has anyone considered the possibility of our games pitched stat being inflated because none of our bullpen guys spent any time on the DL. Even when we had Pressly, Reed, and Hildenberger near the top of the list. Rogers and Duke were not far behind. I think it's quite possibly a combination of: 1. We just didn't have any guys spend time on the DL when other teams did. 2. Molitor spent a couple of months trying to hide Kinley and Hughes and the rookies which left him with a 6 man bullpen.

    Wouldn't that require Cashman ignoring Sano's 2018 production and not ignoring Bird's 2018 production at the same time.

    I have the exact same questions rolling through my head. Castro is out for the season. Bobby Wilson is called up to join Mitch Garver. Wilson becomes the starter and produces a .578 OPS and Mitch Garver is the backup with "defensive issues" The need for an option on the farm couldn't be greater and Astundillo is moved away from the position to play 3B. Astundillo eventually gets called up to replace Motter and plays 3B, 2B and even CF in a pinch. Does not catch and is returned to Rochester where he resumes catching and only after Wilson gets hurt... do we finally see him put the pads on in a Twins uniform.. and he looked like he has done it before. I remain confused... But I'm glad to see him get a chance so I'll just look forward to his next start.

    What kind of substance are you looking for? Lineup Construction is out Bullpen Management is out David Bote played a few games for the Cubs is out What will you allow? Define substance because we are all flying blind here. I'm trying to be constructive. I'm not even calling for his head. I'm trying to point out another way that other teams are doing it. You want to push back against that... Ok... Go ahead... I guess, I deserve it. Go ahead and carve me up at your pleasure.

    That's the idea. Prepare for possible success and prepare for possible failure. If Austin can play a passable OF... It gives you the chance to find a 1B with a shot at an .850 OPS. If he can't play OF or won't be considered for OF, then you you have no room for the addition of a 1B with a shot at .850 And I agree with you... We don't know if Austin is a hitter at this point but if he can play OF allowing you to pick up that 1B with a shot. An Austin regression will not be as painful. If you end up with Austin and that 1B with a shot both hitting... you can accommodate. And of course... Mauer is a real wild card here. If Mauer comes back... he will play and he will play 1B. So now you have Mauer with Austin playing the same role that Morrison played this year. If Austin pulls a Morrison circa 2018... we just made the exact same mistake again. If Austin can play some OF... It allows you to pick up another big bat. It allows Sano some games at 1B, If Sano can play some 1B... It gives Escobar a place to play if you want to bring him back.

    I’m sure you are aware that this Is a larger point of playing time allocation even as you point out the hypothetical nature of the post. If every baseball team is doing the same thing then I suppose that there is no point. But they are not and I’ll keep pointing them out as a way to compare and contrast until the amount of playing time given to Morrison, Wilson, Buxton and Sano becomes as ridiculous to others.

    I agree but the same works in reverse. If you are willing to tolerate that. You should be able to tolerate trying Austin in the OF to avoid a glut at 1B or DH.

    I don't want to start a new thread and I don't know what existing thread to post this in... However, I want to make this point. David Bote hit another home run for the Chicago Cubs yesterday. Why do I want to point this out? David Bote was an 18th round draft pick that never appeared on any of those top prospect lists. He was called up to the Cubs about a month ago and he has a total of 109 MLB AB's. Nobody knew who he was. The Cubs are currently in one of the most contested playoff races that we have seen in quite some time. The Cubs currently have Javier Baez, Daniel Murphy, Ben Zobrist, Ian Happ and Tommy La Stella as more experienced and established options. Why do I point this out? Joe Maddon is playing David Bote! Does anyone believe that Paul Molitor would have played David Bote with Zobrist and Happ sitting on the bench, in playoff contention, in late August. I don't.

    It's much less time consuming to type "they" instead of listing everybody involved in such decisions from the Nishioka to Today. 1. Saying he was gamble doesn't excuse the original assessment by the scout who recommended him or the Manager who tried him at SS before trying him at 2B before he was granted his request to be released from a multi-year deal. 2 and 3. Trevor Plouffe during his professional career has played more games at SS (749) then he played at 3B (710). Our people didn't realize he shouldn't be a SS until he reached the majors as a SS. Brian Dozier also played SS in the minors and was quickly moved to 2B after it was determined that he wasn't very good at SS and they found this out at the major league level. 4. Everybody who ever wrote anything about him in 2014 and 2015... although those comments might not have come from inside the organization but they were frequent and loud. OK... I'll scratch 4... although... all he did was DH in 2015 and that is a statement in and of itself. 5. OK... There's one you agree with. 6. Yet... Here he is... still at SS which is a warm fuzzy for the eval department. So why worry about Austin in the OF if you've already shown that you make concessions at perhaps the most important defensive position? 7. If Grossman's defense is good enough in the OF... How bad would Austin have to be in the OF to not be good enough? 8. Yeah because he didn't get any playing time at catcher when he was up and Bobby Wilson was hitting .130 something and we were starving for offense. Most importantly though... these are my personal reasons that I don't trust the Twins right now. I'm hoping they give Austin a look in the OF.

    The first home run was extremely impressive because of distance but that pitch was pretty much dead center. His 2nd home run was actually more impressive in my opinion. That pitch was outside corner on the black and he still cleared the RF fence. Sitting Austin against the Right Handers Kopech and Cahill in some sort of platoon with Grossman is looking pretty questionable right about now.

    If Morrison is back in 2019... we will never win a World Series ever. And I mean ever.
