Gallo was placed on the 10 Day disabled list retroactive to April 8th. He isn't allowed to cross the white lines in a major league park league until the 18th.

It's a long road ahead with twists and turns so I'll keep trying to stay even keel. However... My confidence in this team is rooted in the starting pitching depth. Varland on hand when needed has me excited. He battled out there. Come what may. Oops Sorry... Wrong Month... Come what april.

Roster Crunch? Who stays, who goes?
Riverbrian replied to stringer bell's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
If it was my call... it shouldn't be but if it was my call. If Kepler is activated today or soon. Wallner has been a healthy scratch two games in a row. It has to be him that goes to AAA if he is going to be scratched against back to back righthanded pitchers. If no injuries occur to change the context and Gallo is activated next week. I'd go with Garlick. If Julien is the hitter everyone says he is... and he sure looks like he is. His swing is very smooth, the bat speed is a blur and strike zone appears to be well managed. My opinion on Julien is worthless because I've only seen him play during the WBC and these two games but that swing sure looks real to me. If that hitting is real... he needs to stay up because we need that type of hitting. So... Yeah... Garlick because I would never worry about exposing a short side platoon player. I'll keep Castro for the time being for his flexibility. On the pitching side... Has to be Sands or Moran. Sands threw last night so he most likely won't be available tonight. Varland starts and is sent right back down afterwards regardless of results with a fresh arm replacing him for the weekend. Megill is the only reliever on the 40 man. I don't think they want to put Ober into the Sands slot. So Megill would be my assumption because I don't believe the Twins want to expose anybody besides Garlick on the current 40. Unless of course... The easy move. Today: Sands sent down, Varland called up and he makes his start tonight. Tomorrow: Varland sent back down. Kepler activated (if healthy of course) Garlick is removed from the 26 and the 40. 26 man spot and 40 man spot goes to... umm Derick Rodriquez... seems like the most likely option at the moment and Derick slots into the Sands role. The easy move has merit... but... I'd still send down Wallner due to his place in the pecking order. -
Twins 26/40-man Roster Moves/Transactions Thread - 2023

Nothing to worry about. It won't happen. Kepler won't be traded. The other teams don't believe he is one of our best players. -
The Twins Nailed Lineup Flexibility
Riverbrian replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
In the past 24 hours. The Twins team OPS jumped from .659 to .701 and has moved from 26th ranked to 23rd ranked. You gotta love the instability of a small sample size.- 34 replies

The Twins Nailed Lineup Flexibility
Riverbrian replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I have issues with the article. I roll my eyes whenever anyone tries to lineup platoon splits that are only possible if everyone is healthy when everyone healthy rarely happens. I agree with you that "Nailed" is pretty aggressive for a team that is twelve games into the season. However... pointing out a 26th ranked offense 12 games into the season is also aggressive. Like those guys with those big bearskin hats that walk around Buckingham palace. I will unwaveringly support depth and the flexibility that naturally and necessarily arises out of that depth. I recognize the front office efforts to deepen this roster at a level above Bundy and Archer and I eagerly await the results to be determined at a later time. 😉- 34 replies

The Twins Nailed Lineup Flexibility
Riverbrian replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't think anything should be touted after 12 games... including a bottom 5 offense. Now... if it must be done. When I look at a 27th ranked offense with a .659 OPS... One of the first things that I look at are the players who are dragging that number down. Who are the players getting playing time below that 27th ranked number? Those are the players who are dragging it down. Here's the list: Carlos Correa, Michael Taylor, Jose Miranda Max Kepler, Nick Gordon, Kyle Farmer and Willi Castro. Unless we pin it all on Gordon... the flexible players are not the culprit.- 34 replies

The Twins Nailed Lineup Flexibility

Flexibility is a natural by-product of depth. You can't have depth without flexibility. If you don't have depth... you will not survive the injuries that are sure to come.- 34 replies

I have openly questioned the strategy because injuries can happen at any time regardless of rest. Was Correa over-worked 8 games into the season when he tweaked his back. Was Gallo run down when he developed side soreness. Was it too much playing time that caused Max Kepler to hurt his knee running to first. We are 10 games into the season and the injured list is as active as ever all around baseball... not just in the land of 10,000 lakes. However... I will let the guys with the information make the decision. strategize long term and execute accordingly. If the plan is to DH him for awhile... So be it. We will see if it keeps him healthy. However... Another However to follow that first However. Letting him pinch hit and then pulling Miranda out of DH just to move Castro to the OF in order to keep Buck out of the outfield for a single inning is way way way way way over the top.

Love reading the comments describing the lineup as "B Team" "C Team" "Split Squad". Which players are you talking about? Correa had an OPS of .492, Kepler had an OPS of .489. Declared starters Miranda and Taylor are currently doing the OPS in the .400 area dance. The other guys... the bench, the Subs... Larnach has an OPS of .849... he wasn't supposed to make the team out of spring training. Farmer and Solano were not supposed to face righthanders. They are over .700 OPS facing them so far. Which players are the "B" "C" and "Split Squad" players? Or do we just win on names/reputation. Doesn't seem to matter what they are actually doing on the field. There is no such thing as "B" "C" or "Split Squad". If you think that a player on the roster is "B" "C" or "Split Squad". We will not survive the season. There are 26 spots and every player needs to be able to perform. If it hurts to play someone... they shouldn't be on the roster. BECAUSE THEY WILL PLAY and therefore IT WILL HURT. Is Solano still superflous? Do we still have too many left handed outfielders? How are all those platoon plans working out? 10 games into the season. Does anybody remember September without singing Earth Wind and Fire.

You grab a bat and you walk up to the plate when it's your turn to hit. He will need to do more wherever he hits in the lineup. He will be up with bases empty, runners on, with no outs, with two outs with big leads, big deficits, tie games, close games, in the 2nd inning, in the 5th inning, in the 9th inning.. He fill face all of these situations... wherever he hits in the lineup. You are painting Miranda as psyched out and therefore worthless in the meantime. You claim to see it and you claim that Rocco and Mgmt can't?

I know it's a small sample size... however... now that I've seen all 4 in action. I don't think it's too soon to declare that I like the "Twin Cities" jersey the best.

Timing is everything. If you catch the A's at the wrong time they will bite you. Every once in awhile you'll need a Kyle Farmer or Luis Rivas to push one through when the time is right. Looking at the long haul this year. The Astros got good pitching depth and I think the pitching will get them the 90 wins you are saying they should get... but... on the offensive side you can see what happens when Altuve and Brantley are on the D.L. leaving them with Jake Cave... umm sorry... I mean Mauricio Dubon and David Hensley carrying water. The Twins may not have the equivalent of Alvarez, Tucker and Bregman but they are deeper in my opinion and you still got to put 9 guys in the lineup. The Yankees are deeeeep. I would not bet against them. They should be in the ball park at the end of the year. Probably gonna face the Twins in the playoffs again. 😉

Twins 3, Astros 2: Farmer Walks Off the Astros!

I understand. I remember this 80 degree day at the lake. We got about 10 walleye of decent size. We were all laughing, joking and having a good time. I had bug spray on but I think I missed a spot around my ankle because a mosquito got me. 😄- 68 replies

Twins 3, Astros 2: Farmer Walks Off the Astros!
Riverbrian replied to Steven Trefz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I had a lost a needle in a haystack once. It was a special needle that I wanted back so my friends and I started looking for it. Couldn't find it until another friend walked up and asked what we were doing. The new arriving friend just looked at the haystack and said there it is. Impressed by this and wanting to see if he could do it again. One of the group threw the needle back into the hay stack and once again... he stood back... looked and said there it is. This friend clearly has a unique talent of finding needles in haystacks. You have the same unique talent when it comes to finding the negative in a positive.- 68 replies
