  1. Some light reading for anyone enjoying the thought of a Lynn scoreless streak...
  2. "The canvas can do (Ft Myers*) miracles..." Thanks for nothing, crummy Dacron sails. *edited by USAFChief
  3. Huh, i figured a survivor of countless Chicago cab rides would hardly bat an eye. Hope the FRE doesn't cause it to flare up.
  4. Yup, and I'm pretty sure the grandma in Parenthood liked them too. On the other hand, a few Ferris wheel saves wouldn't hurt.
  5. Molitor to Gibby: "Nice job, son, now go ice that arm and put your feet up while you relax and watch Rodney defuse a thermonuclear weapon. Blindfolded."
  6. Loading the bases with two outs and a full count... Rodney leads the league in DPSS... Drama Per Save Situation.
  7. Molitor always seems to find something terribly fascinating to look at on the dugout floor when Rodney starts turning the FRE up to 11.
  8. Given Molitor's odd reliever usage decisions, I think maybe... both?
  9. I'm just going to dwell on the positive of how much better "dripping" is than 'oozing'.
  10. Hate to be a wet blanket, but I'm a little worried about how shaky Garver's defense looked on his RBI...
  11. Gibson was excellent, but there seemed to be a collective failure on the part of baserunners and middle management to grasp the time-space continuum as it relates to advancing from third to home.
  12. Torii's not gonna let a stray fact here or there get in the way of a perfectly good opinion.
  13. Yeah, it seems quiet even for a regular season game, let alone a playoff game. I'm thinking more about how he used to struggle against teams that forced him to throw strikes.
  14. It's not as much of a novelty as the drop kick in the NFL, but sometimes it feels like it might be someday.
  15. That's maybe the most remarkable thing about Gibson's transformation, because I used to think that his biggest weakness was that he didn't have the kind of stuff to be effective against lineups like the Yankees and BoSox, with disciplined hitters that don't get themselves out on bad pitches.
  16. Eddie is about 90% All Star and 10% "What in the absolute **** did Rosario just do?!". As tremendously fun as he's been to watch, that ratio will need to get better when the Twins contend. But for now, he and Berrios are about all that's keeping me from a Twins sabbatical.
  17. Quite a few farms in their family history, they just never actually farmed them.
  18. For sure, just as long as everyone (including Joe) understands that we're not asking him to replace the unforgettable Chris Gimenez in our hearts...
  19. Both fun and a little sad to see Mauer have a rare chance to flash that exceptional arm with the nice throw to third. Sigh.
  20. Thanks for the thoughtful reply, and your post is a good thumbnail sketch of an important difference between the pastime of following a team and the job of covering a team. And maybe this point has been covered already in this thread, but I'll apologize if it has and raise it anyway. For me, at least, it's not that a Matt Belisle or a Bobby Wilson is ruining the Twins' season, it's just that the presence of players like them makes it difficult to understand just what it is that the Twins' front office is trying to accomplish at this point. As Joker reminded us in The Dark Knight, "Nobody panics when there's a plan, even when the plan is horrifying". I'd prefer a non-horrifying plan for the Twins, and they should have the resources to come up with one. But as long as the Twins retain guys like Belisle who can't really help them either contend or rebuild, it's likely that many heads will continue to be scratched, and much consternation will continue to be voiced.
  21. With all due respect, I've no doubt that this was meant as a courteous, concise reply, but to me it still had a whiff of slightly testy dismissal of questions being asked by some posters whose names I recognize as well-informed Twins fans. And even if the Twins have mentioned the eyebrow-raising handling of Buxton, Belisle, and other players early on, wouldn't it be fair to say that even if those were adequate explanations at the time, they might no longer cut it now? 'Swamped at work' may be a convincing explanation of why your Christmas tree is still up a week or two into January. It's not very convincing in March. Belisle is a Christmas tree in March, and he's not the only player shedding needles.
  22. Ladies and gentlemen... your 2018 Twins!
  23. And because it was a non-save situation, that long fly ball that hit the flag pole was a non-homer for the purposes of determining his trade value as a closer/setup guy if the Twins are non-buyers at the deadline, right? Either way, it turned out to be a fun game and an even more fun game thread. Happy weekend, all!
