  1. If we turn down an option year, does that remove the opportunity for us to get draft pick compensation should he leave in free agency?
  2. In the original two scenarios, it was the exact same ERA (3.86)
  3. I know this turned a bit silly, but underlying the silliness is a serious question.... Would you rather have a guy that gives you an ok chance every time he takes the mound or a guy like Kyle Gibson, who is lights out in 45% of his starts (0-1ER, 7+ IP), so-so in 20% of his starts (2-4ER, 6+ IP), and bad in 35% of his starts (5+ ER) Edited to add: And all this with a truly terrible defense
  4. Wrong... I'd have him pitch the next two innings and have him give up negative 4 runs those innings
  5. I'm preparing myself for Pelfrey. And, honestly, I'm OK with it. He's got a month. Sink or swim. If he sinks, then we cut him and the Pelfrey era is over. If he swims, then we have a little value.
  6. Would you rather have a guy that: a) in half his starts goes 8ip with 1 run and the other half 6ip with 5 runs or b.) in every start goes 7ip with 3 runs
  7. I would love him to be up with the club right away, but this isn't Minor League pitcher Alex Meyer being promoted to the Major League Club. This is Rochester Red Wing Alex Meyer being promoted to the Minnesota Twins. The combination of Twins talking points, Twins history, and the existence of highly paid options that need to play out the string on their usefulness (in the eyes of management), leads me to believe that there is almost a 0% chance he comes north from Ft Myers I feel like the order of "preference" from management for the 5th starter spot, at the beginning of the year is: Pelfrey Milone May Meyer Staufer
  8. I'm not going to quibble with the Twins not promoting Meyer last year. He was dinged up in 2013 and was certainly on an innings limit in 2014. I can't see a scenario (even a rash of injuries or complete dominance from Meyer) where the Twins burn a year of Arb, or Super 2, or whatever, by having him up on opening day. They have too many "adequate" stopgaps without the arbitration concern hanging over them. If the Twins make it past mid-June without having Meyer on the 25 man roster, in my opinion, the person making that decision, is doing a severe disservice to this organization.
  9. AAA / First Full MLB Year (year) / 2014 Hernandez 4.9 / 2.8 (2006) / 1.8 Price 4.6 / 3.8 (2009) / 1.7 Lester 4.3 / 2.8 (2008) / 2.0 Samardzija 4.2 / 2.9 (2012) / 1.8 Ventura 3.9 / 3.4 (2014) / same Kershaw (no AAA but AA was 3.9 in 16 starts) / 4.3 (2008) / 1.4 Kluber 3.9 / 2.0 (2013) / 1.9 Scherzer 3.7 (4.9 in AA) / 3.3 (2009) / 2.6
  10. Alex Meyer 2014 - 4.42 BB/9
  11. No kidding. Those first few months in Chattanooga are going to be awesome.
  12. 1. Fast Start 2. Nolasco 4.00 ERA 3. Highly successful promotions (Meyer, Sano, Buxton, Berrios?) 4. Arcia and Vargas, 25HR each
  13. What were pre-arbitration salaries back in the early 2000s?
  14. a) I'm not advocating it, just wondering out loud. b ) Would being Tigers-like be so bad? (I realize you said "lite", but I'm not sure we would be inferior to the Tigers)
  15. Just for fun, I wonder what the Twins 25 man roster would look like if they said "screw it" and made the entirety of their minor league talent available for trade in an effort to win in the next 5 years. Buxton. Sano. Berrios. Meyer. Stewart..... Everyone is available. Guys already at in the majors could be available too (Vargas, Arcia, Dozier, Santana, etc)
  16. I can't wait for 11:05 when the Twins finally make their first transaction of these winter meetings.
  17. I'm fine with standing pat in free agency, but then you can't stand pat in the other 3-4 ways to improve your organization.
  18. You know what they say, slow and steady win the top 5 pick..... Not counting losing a tie breaker and having a team not be able to sign a player from the previous draft so they get magically vaulted ahead of you.
  19. Eddie Rosario with all multi-hit games so far (four 2-hit games)
  20. In this context is "soft" a compliment? I'm leaning toward no.
  21. Jamie Hersch was a FSN Girl. She's doing pretty well moving up. Just saying.
  22. I found myself yelling at Aaron "WHAT IS YOUR FREAKING POINT" during his strange 20 minute discussion about Terry Ryan, after he housed the breakfast burrito. 2006 wasn't as good as we like to remember it was? Years later we remember the good and gloss over the bad? You know what else works like that? EVERYTHING!
  23. Delta will get you for a fortune for that Hartford to MSP direct. Lots of options from Atlanta. With all the AA call ups we are going to have next year, this is probably just a cost-cutting move
  24. Nice write up and I feel your pain, but this feels more like a "Twins leave New Britain" article than a "Twins move to Chattanooga" article. Based on the title I was hoping for some in-depth info on Chattanooga, its facilities, and the league.
