  1. Offer an upside guy well under slot. If he takes it you've got extra money to spend on the competitive balance pick and rounds 3-5. If he doesn't take it, you'll have the 7th pick in what HAS to be a better draft in 2016.
  2. Buxton with a May OPS of around .900 Sano with a May OPS of around .960
  3. Nolasco with a career OPS+ of ...... -2
  4. I'd rather have him pitch in the full game that's being played that day. Then, he would have started two games that were completed on the same day.
  5. Kepler could always get the "Polanco treatment" for a few days if the Twins find themselves in a injury/suspension pinch.
  6. Whether it translates to MLB from AA, what Walker is doing (and what he's done for 2 years) just screams 6th or 7th in the batting order hitter, to me. The kind of guy that just knows how to get guys across the plate and the kind of guy that will turn a 1 run inning into a 4 run inning in the blink of an eye. Will he strike out a bunch? Yes. But if he didn't strike out he'd probably be a MLB top 30 prospect and project to a cleanup hitter.
  7. Buster Olney, in March, ranked the hardest AL early season schedules (roughly the first 40 games). ( http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/buster-olney/insider/post?id=9568 ) ------------------- 3. Minnesota Twins Games against teams that had records over .500 in 2014: 30 of their first 40. Home/road: 20 of their first 40 are at home. Noteworthy: Not only do the Twins have their share of in-division games against rivals from the AL Central early, but they also have a four-game series against Oakland and a two-game series against the Pirates. Before the All-Star break, the Twins will see the Tigers in 13 games and the Royals in 13 games. Good luck with that. -------------- This early, I think it's fair to consider teams that were supposed to be good as still making a schedule "hard" even though they aren't playing that way currently. Do you think the Oakland fans are bemoaning their "hard" schedule because they've had to play the Twins 7 games? No. In the same vain we shouldn't be downgrading the strength of our schedule just because Oakland, Seattle, and Cleveland haven't looked like the teams people thought they were going to be.
  8. The twins have to be leading the league in runs scored without an RBI, right?
  9. Part of me feels this way, but another part of me wants to see what that AA team can do in the first half of their season.
  10. I'm not sure that I prefer a 5 game series over a typical 3 game series, but I know that I like that the Southern League said "EFF it, let's do 5 game series, even though everyone else does 3-gamers" Good for them
  11. It's interesting that they do 5 game series. It's not like these teams are spread way out. The longest drive is probably Jackson, MS to Jacksonville, FL, which is about 8 hours.
  12. Terry Ryan.... you just cleared $7M in "cap space" You can probably find a decent CF for that figure
  13. I was hoping that Bonnes was just speculating, but a quick look at MLBtraderumors confirmed the Pelfrey kick in the nuts, after we just suffered the Santana sucker punch in the face.
  14. Adding Ervin Santana in July is just like making a big trade at the trading deadline.
  15. What in the Twins recent history would lead us to believe that those prospects will be called up when "ready" (I use "ready" because the Twins seem to have way more criteria for a prospect being ready). Buxton is probably the only person you've listed that isn't blocked by someone who "Competes every night", "is good at controlling the zone", or has "years of experience to lean on" Injuries happen, but without injuries, I consider almost every one of those players to be blocked. Well.... Twins-blocked
  16. "Those two guys haven't even had a year of pro ball." AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. I haven't listened to the episode yet, but this is where I was hoping to find this discussion. I wanted ONE..... all I needed was ONE out-of-the-(Twins typical)-box choice for the 25 man roster. Meyer... Rosario.... Burdi..... Sano.... Heck, I might have even settled for May. But, no, I got the same uninspiring choices.
  18. That was the writers reaction to the contract, not my reaction to the article. "It was fine.... I suppose" "It wasn't too bad.... I guess" "None of these examples are very good comparisons, but I'll put them up here because that's what my editor expects. I can't draw any conclusions from them, though"
  19. The writer could have saved himself a lot of time and just typed "YAAAAAAAWN" and submitted that to his editor.
  20. In the case of "Age 31 Brian Dozier" he might turn down your QO, not because he's worth more than the 1-year dollar value of that offer, but because he's looking for one more guaranteed payday (say 4 years, $40M). And if you are the Twins, you might not pick up the option because you have other in-house options that you feel will perform near the same level at a much lower cost, but at the same time you think that he will turn down your qualifying offer because he wants a multi-year contract. I get that these are all hypotheticals, but I think that's a scenario that is more likely than you are considering it to be.
  21. I think it would be obvious what we are doing, but also smart, and hardy a sham. This is all moot, in this case, because there isn't an option year, I was just trying to understand the system more clearly. For the sake of argument, if you couldn't do a QO if you turn down an option, that would be a very good reason not to offer a (team) option year.
  22. Right, but can will still make that $15M offer if we turn down an option year?
