  1. Actually, this is a very normal game for Clevinger. Somebody pin a Cy Young on that man's chest. Yeah...um, he's slightly good.
  2. I do think we have a great chance next year if we can hold onto most of our lineup and find better replacements for Perez and Gibson. Polanco and Arraez are wonderful players. Garver's great. Kepler, Rosario, and now Sano is showing some real potential. There's actually a real good chance we don't even make the playoffs this year, but I'll tell you what, if we ever get pitching in the next 3 or 4 years, we will be a force to be reckoned with.
  3. Even though I am harping on pitching, I will say it was quite the ride this year, no matter what happens in the last two months. I have never seen a lineup with so much muscle.
  4. It just shows how pitching is the cat's meow in baseball even in 2019. Baseball will probably always be about pitching, pitching, pitching. If you have great pitching, the sky's the limit.
  5. I'm sure Johan Santana had bad games with us, but one thing is sure: I don't remember even a single game that he pitched where he was shelled. Not one. 5 IP, 4 ER? Sure. But I can't remember a really bad game. As for Radke, sure there were times he would give up 2 or 3 runs in the first inning, I remember that too, but again, I felt really good with Radke on the mound. There's no question I looked forward to Radke and Santana pitching, I don't particularly count down the days that Berrios will pitch. Maybe one day, but certainly not yet in his career.
  6. But at the same time, the 91 Twins were so great and only two years later, we were one of the worst teams in baseball in 93. So time goes really fast for any team not named the Yankees or Red Sox.
  7. The thing that shocked me the most about those Royals' clubs is how fast they disappeared. It has to be a very hard pill to swallow for Royals fans when their club's players all left so fast.
  8. The thing that made pitchers like Brad Radke and Johan Santana ace material is that you absolutely could predict a good game each and every game they pitched. When I see Berrios pitching, I don't get the same feeling that I got with Radke and Santana.
  9. I personally don't see Berrios as an ace. Aces are not unpredictable in big games.
  10. I don't see how giving Cleveland 2 games in the standings for the chance to have a better series against Cleveland is a good strategy going forward. Now if the Twins sweep Cleveland, then the strategy was very smart. But if the Twins take 3 out of 4, all they did was recover what they had lost to begin with. No real gain. As it is, I am hoping for a split, considering how we have been playing the last two days.
  11. Are the Twins a better team than the Braves? Absolutely, 100 per cent yes. The Twins are better than Atlanta. Maybe we just caught the Braves at a bad time.
  12. I would respectfully disagree. These last two games, the offense did not score a single run in the first 5 innings of either game. You can score 7 a game, but if you are not setting the tone early in the game with some runs, then the offense really did not do its part, in my opinion.
  13. I actually expected a very competitive series. This is a surprise to me.
  14. We made it a contest at the end of the game. Should give momentum for tomorrow hopefully.
  15. Of the three games in the Atlanta series, this one I was most worried about. Hopefully, Perez has a great game tomorrow and we take 2 out of 3 against a solid Braves team.
  16. Whatever Sano did to resurrect his career, Schoop needs to do the same thing.
  17. You would have thought it would have lowered the price on Dyson in the trade talks if they thought he was hurting before the trade.
  18. Well, it's like they say, "In Baseball, you see something new every day." I don't recall anything more disastrous than this and I have been an avid fan since 1991.
  19. I actually feel bad for Falvey, having to relay that news. Because I sure hope they didn't think that makes this whole case look better, it doesn't.
  20. I wonder if we would have a case against the Giants here. Probably not. It's very possible they were not even aware of an existing injury.
  21. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! I have never seen anything like this in all my following baseball. Maybe it has happened, but I can't remember.
  22. I see the Royals playing us really tough in a place that we struggle in: Target Field. Seems like we play a lot better on the road for some reason. After this loss, I see the Royals taking 2 out of 3 against us, especially with Perez pitching the first game.
  23. I believe this is one of the reasons why there is more scoring in today's game. Years ago, when the manager seen that his starter had GREAT STUFF he left him in until he got in trouble. Now, managers take out their pitchers for no particular reason at all.
  24. Does anyone else here get the feeling that perhaps we did not give enough respect to the Marlins in this series? Obviously, if Berrios had been throwing a shutout against a team like the Yankees or Astros, we would have kept him in the game as long as he was dealing. Wouldn't we agree that that is a very likely scenario? And again today, wouldn't we agree that had we been playing against the Yankees or Astros, we would not have used a reliever that had just joined the team in the last 24 hours? Isn't it reasonable to assume that? Why then do we use a different approach against the Marlins? Let's not forget: The Marlins are still a Major League ballclub and they are managed by one of the greats: Don Mattingly.
  25. There's no reason why a closer cannot go three games in a row. For that matter, why not just send Romo out for another inning? Why not?
