  1. I thought I conceded that you had a point there and that I was open to a smaller window. Also, I'm arguing that age and brain development is just one factor. Ideology burned in over a long period of time is a factor as well. I'm sure homosexuals would prefer the current me voting on family issues rather than the 18 yo me who was taught that they were all abominations. I mean I was still 18 and of legal voting age. I get ashbury's point too that maybe the numbers are just too small. I'm not sure that would be true across all states and their counties though.
  2. Not sure why you don't think it's fitting ... I'm basically just saying that I support a longer period of time for someone to be institutionalized into the ways of the United States before having the privilege of affecting the way the country is run. The analogy was just to support how long it can take for someone to accept a new set of values.
  3. At least that was 30 years ago, the Netherlands still does Schwartz Pieten at parades around Christmas last I heard. I know people of Dutch decent who still call him a beloved symbol. He's been there all their life, kinda like Chief Wahoo for a lot of lifelong Indians fans. We have a long way to go.
  4. There are plenty of politicians out there that want to abolish ICE and then they also want to create a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. To me that sounds like trying to get a mass number of votes coming to support political agendas while hiding behind some humanitarian facade.
  5. You have a point, and I would listen to a smaller window. However, I don't just think it's just age but also how long you have been indoctrinated under some backwards set of values. Speaking from experience, it's taken me 25 years to mostly embrace a different set of values when it comes to accepting people's sexual preferences. I say mostly, because even now my brain doesn't immediately send a "normal" signal everytime I encounter a situation along those lines. I still have to check myself from time to time. I believe that's true for a lot of people, especially in my age range and older. In fact, I'm guessing the older you are, the harder it is from a majority standpoint. I would than apply that line of thought to someone who grew up and was indoctrinated under Sharia law or some other backwards set of values and come to the conclusion that some deprogramming is probably necessary before allowing someone like that to have an affect on policy. I know it isn't going to be perfect, but I think only age basing is a mistake.
  6. I certainly don't want to wish ALS on the man. That would be horrible.
  7. I think I pretty much agree with all of this. When talking about how we all look, I'm sure I totally agree. As far as drawing the line goes, my biggest hangup (and I have to say I don't have a completely formed opinion, because I have limited data and have experiences interacting with and observing both sides of this) is whether or not many of the immigrants of today are looking for opportunity and the ability to be a part of something greater and contribute to that, or if they are just looking to take advantage of a situation and be taken care of. I also fear that there are certain political motivations to pipeline mass immigration. I would actually support not allowing anyone to vote until they have been a citizen for 18 years. We do it to all our children.
  8. I don't think it's the end of the line. I truly hope that he fully recovers and has made the changes necessary to realize the potential of his talents. However, there are several other players on this team, including ones that could potentially benefit from his absence that are more toward the front of my fandom at the moment.
  9. I'm hoping for a modern day, completely unconventional and successful Wally Pipp-type story to unfold
  10. Yeah, just tripping and fumbling right into the back hallway of Apple stores. It's the Twins fault for not getting him a service dog who can see better. C'mon!
  11. This is what I love about this time of year. Just waiting to watch what potential can be realized with all these promising players. It's just so hard to see past the mountain at the end of the driveway right now (and to avoid getting clipped like Tom Smykowski).
  12. Nazi's may have been nationalists, but I don't think all nationalists have the values of Nazi's. I would probably consider myself a nationalist in some form, but I don't feel the need to start exterminating a certain class of people. Of course, I think many believe in bystander guilt and duty to rescue laws and then in turn equate that to being just as bad as exterminating. I don't hold any of those values, but I still don't consider myself a Nazi.
  13. That's good leadership. I knew Dean Phillips would vote yes. I was also happy to see Justin Amash voted to block Trump on this as well. He's not my rep, but I definitely agree with a lot of his positions (not all of them, but a lot).
  14. Johan Santana - Minor League Change-Up Development Instructor (They could call it Director of Player Pitch Variance Development for more prestige in the team program)
  15. While I would normally say that it's way too early to even entertain thoughts plug pulling, I do find myself slightly less quick to disagree with you on those two.
  16. So, it looks like this whole violation of the Constitution with the emergency declaration is likely in the hands of John Roberts. I hope he makes the right decision. I'm all for border protection, even though I think we need to streamline the immigration process, but precedent cannot be set for giving this avenue of bypassing checks and balances. I'm not in the immoral camp on the wall, but I just think it's going to be a massive, ineffective waste. This declaration cannot be allowed though.
  17. Cracker jacks should be in the clear then.
  18. Here is another article on the subject: https://stadiumjourney.com/news/will-peanuts-be-the-thing-of-a-past-at-the-ballpark/
  19. And you would think they are about to implement sharia law before next Christmas (well I guess it wouldn't be Christmas anymore), if you believe all the alarmist nut jobs out there.
  20. I think this could be controlled by having the peanut free concession stands and sections as stated above. The vendors working at those stands or in those sections wouldn't and shouldn't be handling peanuts. Also, it's on the allergy sufferer to carry his/her epipen.
  21. Wait ... so saving the peanut allergy people at the expense of the sunflower seed allergy people is OK?
  22. How about trading ovaries for tax credits? Is that too brutal? No, I'm not serious, but I often find myself at least entertaining thoughts like that when discussing solutions.
  23. I'm not sure how it's an empty threat. We already see movement offshore without a lot of these policies. I am not a fan of limited liability in general and would definitely listen to ideas about how to reform it. If you take on a debt, you should pay that debt. I'm not an economics guru or anything, so it probably isn't that simple. That's where I start though. Also, when you make statements like, "They should be replaced by someone who can," I hope that doesn't mean you think the government should step in and take care of that replacement.
  24. While I probably wouldn't have even asked the question, because there are versions of socialism that have worked, I'm not sure all of those countries can have their situations fairly compared to the US. Finland has 5-6 million people. I find it difficult to project their situation to the US. Denmark and Japan have lots of policies in place that either keep everything homogeneous or force values to promote assimilation. Britain is quite the mess itself right now, so I don't think they would be a good example of what to do. I'm not quite as schooled on Germany on Norway, but I do know that you are dealing with significantly less population.
