  1. I wouldn't want to give up both Graterol and Balazovic. Agree on taking on more salary to reduce prospect cost if that's an option. Adding Arenado and Gray would be huge though and if the Rockies are actually open to this Falvine should be all over it.
  2. AvatarKiley McDaniel is a 35
  3. Interesting that they hired a managerial candidate that Derek Shelton would have competed against for the Mets and Pirates openings. Seems like an excellent hire but would assume he won't be here for long. Really curious to see how they fill out the assistant pitching coach position. With Pete Maki and Justin Willard both showing up on some lists of up and coming coaches you have to wonder if they'll promote one of them and backfill with another MiLB coordinator?
  4. At this point, given what's left and the terms the top remaining FA's are looking for/teams also in the hunt I would totally be fine with/would almost prefer punting on Ryu, Keuchel and Donaldson. If it were me I'd be focused on extensions for Berrios, Odorizzi, Buxton and Sano, offer a 2 year deal to Taijuan Walker along with one each of the best FA starter, reliever and corner infielder you can get to agree to a 1 year deal. This strategy would really piss off the payroll obsessed fans but you get an upside signing in Walker while building solid depth which proved very beneficial in 2019 without any regrettable long-term commitments. Can always supplement for the stretch-run at the trading deadline and have money to play with for free agency next year.
  5. Yes! I would much rather see them invest long-term in pitchers that have been successful and happy in Minnesota. Berrios and Odorizzi is an excellent long-term foundation to build around. The fact that they've both been here is also beneficial in that the Twins have been managed their workloads fairly conservatively so you can reasonably expect good health.
  6. Pretty sure Sano re-established himself as a huge (literally and figuratively) part of the core with that monster 2nd half in 2019. Falvey and Levine had better be focused on finding players to compliment him, not to offload him.
  7. Big fan of the FO and everything they've done so far but the lack of activity this week has been a disappointment. It feels like they're suffering from analysis paralysis. Even seeing yesterday that Don Kelly who was apparently their top candidate to be the 2020 Bench Coach was hired away by Pittsburgh before they even got around to scheduling a meeting with him. It's been all but given that Shelton was leaving for over a month and the hiring was announced over a week ago. Shouldn't they have had a list of candidates lined up and maybe even some prelim discussions in the works BEFORE he officially left?
  8. Certainly worth exploring if Boston is desperate enough to give him up for next to nothing and eat some of the remaining salary. Not sure this is the way to go otherwise.
  9. Rule 5 is today at 11:00 AM Central time. Hoping the Wander watch won't be the most exciting thing that happens today...
  10. Any of the top 5 prospects are top 100 in all of baseball and all have more control at an even lower cost. I wouldn't be a fan of including any combination of two of them plus Rosario for Snell. Save for his one Cy-Young season he's been either injured or inconsistent or both. I wouldn't be surprised to see Graterol or Balazovic have better careers over the long-haul, both have better minor league numbers by level.
  11. That trade sounds very favorable for the Rays. Rosario plus pick of basically 2 of our top 5 prospects seems like a massive overpay. I've seen the Snell rumors too and can't fathom why Tampa would trade him anyway, seems unrealistic.
  12. Flaws aside I'd be sad to see Eddie go, he's been a joy to follow. If he's part of a trade for Robbie Ray or Sandy Alcantara I'd be happy to help him pack his bags.
  13. Short-term yes, it's a risk. Long-term it's risky to overpay in free agency or give up highly valued prospects in trades for win-now acquisitions. The Falvey/Levine front office is clearly here to play the long game and they both just signed contract extensions that will keep them in the organization for 5 more years. Fans are free to appreciate their approach or complain and neither side of that argument is entirely wrong. I love what they've done so far and look forward to hopefully many more trades like this as they build up a competitor with a deep farm system and payroll flexibility to strike when they feel it's right.
  14. With the free agent market going crazy this is probably the exact type of trade the Twins should be targeting. Odorizzi was a great get, stock was a little down due to performance and perceived averagish stuff but had pedigree as a highly rated prospect. Two very solid years and an All-Star appearance later it's crazy they got him so cheap. For those clammoring for a "staff ace" to lead the team to post season success it's worth noting that Odo actually pitched pretty well against the Yankees this past postseason. Certainly well enough to have earned a win had the offense not choked.
  15. The Reds aren't selling period and definitely not pitching. They were even rumored to be in on Wheeler up until the end. They overpaid for Moustakas and are supposedly in on Ozuna. They seem to believe that they can win the central division and maybe more.
  16. Yes! Lets help the Yankees overspend! Cole was never coming here anyway so no reason to be vindictive. Honestly with the way this market has developed I'd be fine with 1-2 years of Happ if the trade is clearly favorable to the Twins. I'd take on all of the remaining Happ contract and ask them to attach a prospect to sweeten the deal. How about getting Luis Gil back in the organization?
  17. After seeing the Strasburg, Wheeler and Gibson contacts and Bumgarner's demands that were leaked yesterday I feel like the best course of action would be to pursue a trade with the fallback of not more than a 2 year contract for Keuchel if he'd agree to it. Bumgarner and Ryu are not worth overpaying for in AAV or Years so better to patch the rotation together with veteran mid rotation starters year to year until the prospects are ready or a better opportunity to sign or trade for an ace presents itself. Berrios, Odorizzi, Keuchel, Pineda and Dobnak would still be a very solid rotation.
  18. Out of the proposed options I like Option 1 the best but would pass on Homer Bailey. If they add a Bumgarner, Ryu or similar pitcher to Berrios, Odorizzi and Pineda I believe they'll roll with a competition among Dobnak, Thorpe, Smeltzer, Graterol, etc for the 5th starter slot and frankly as a fan I'd rather see them go that route. Talking strictly free agents I'd really like to see the Twins make a bold statement and leave the winter meetings with contracts for both Bumgarner and Donaldson.
  19. Wouldn't complain about a Ryu signing as it would be a clear upgrade but would favor Bumgarner over Ryu due to durability concerns. Honestly not excited about the prospect of signing either one of them but again, wouldn't complain. At this point if they can't get into the Cole or Strasburg tiers I'd prefer to see them explore trade opportunities.
  20. Another solid move. The Nats have to choose between Rendon and Strasburg and the Yankees seem to be zeroed in on Cole. Time to swoop in and steal Strasburg! A+ offseason
  21. If he’ll agree to a one year deal what the hell, why not? Not interested in committing to a 1B/corner outfielder that is reportedly below average defensively for more than a year. Kirilloff, Rooker and Raley should be forcing their way into the lineup by 2021.
  22. Puke and pass
  23. With plenty of internal options you’re probably looking for a one year deal either way. The advantage of Shaw over Cron besides the wrist concerns is similar production with the bat with the added benefit of positional flexibility and a left handed bat.
  24. With Raley, Rooker and Kirilloff all realistic options by mid year I’d target a one year contract for a veteran infield bat. Travis Shaw makes so much sense on a one year deal hoping for a rebound. Can play 1B or 3B and even sprinkle in a little 2B. With the way the Twins love to mix and match lineups that versatility would be very useful and 2019 was such an outlier for him you’ve got to assume he’s a good candidate to bounce back. If he flops you’re maybe forced to bring up one of the prospects sooner than hoped, if he thrives you can let the youngsters develop longer or flip him in a trade.
