  1. Trying to win games and not be realistically contending to win the World Series is not diametrically opposed and not the gotcha moment you think. Remember I am the one stating they were actively trying to lose after the deadline and had posted a Tank thread.
  2. Odds are they win more games than last year. Yes I am willing to take that bet. As currently constructed the over/under is currently 74 games (higher than the 70).
  3. With his hip issue, losing velocity from 93 to 89 and then between the hip and trying to maximize whatever velocity he could muster, yes he did lose some control. As to the bet completely open and serious.
  4. Ok then you are swallowing their garbage. Anyone who is bringing up the go big or go home isn't being realistic. You are frustrated with the performance so be it. It can't be fixed overnight. You may want to switch your allegiance to the dodgers - they are the only go big go home. If you want to place a bet, I bet the era of the bullpen is between 11-20. In the middle range. Are you willing to take that bet?
  5. Ummm, thats not factually correct. For Pitchers - you have Adams, Ohl, Klein, Morris, Raya - All 5 of those show promise or value on the 40 man no different than any other team Hitters - is where we have the chaff - Pereda, Gray, Julien, Wagaman, Kriedler, Outman. I see more value in Pereda and Wagamen. The rest can be cut in my opinion.
  6. Its amazing the frustration or vitriol over the bottom of the 40 man roster transactions. This occurs with all teams. I really don't understand it. These players are marginally better than what we had at the bottom of the 40 man. Caratini and Bell are upgrades. Maybe once they make some moves for the bullpen moods will improve.
  7. I am more than fine getting off the Gasper train. Not sure what would cause him to suddenly shine. We gave him about as much opportunity as anyone would.
  8. The bigger issue - he probably isn't a Catcher at the big league level.
  9. My guess is Twins had shown interest prior. Red Sox were over so were going to DFA - in this case they put it out there to see if there was anything they could get for him, effectively worth more than a DFA but not much. For the Twins they see a player with options that can be utility depth for AAA. For this year that has value - and its more than Baez. We also as of now have more Catching depth, so AAA was going to be squeezed for C opportunities as currently constructed. Baez also appeared to not have the defensive chops playing more at 1st base recently.
  10. Brujan is 1 corresponding move. Pereda, Julien, Kriedler, Outman and Gray are all 5 pretty fringy 40 man spots. Pereda is still likely our 3rd catcher since he still has options.
  11. We have re-arranged the deck chairs slightly, but all in all I do like some of these marginal players we have been picking up for effectively scraps. Wagaman could be starting 1st baseman, Jackson could be tandem catcher, Gray could be a decent utility player. They are moving the needle and not much more, for depth end of the bench players or AAA players, its not something that I am really excited about or upset about. I think you have gotten better marginal players across the board but we will see how it works out.
  12. We are accruing 3-4 players to find the best one. Its not a bad strategy. Most likely mean IKF is off the table. He was the best remaining utility player. For a backup SS/utility player I am more than ok with what we are doing if we put the rest of our money into the bullpen. As an aside, we have gotten Jackson, Wagaman, and now Gray for - Eeles (utility), Baez (C) and Bragg (RP). Of the players we gave up Bragg I would say has a fighters chance of being a big league player. These are marginal upgrades and potential help for the big leagues. Also we did trade for Orze for Kisting. I am anticipating more moves for the relief corps.
  13. SWR - is 25 years old and gets better each year 1. He has shown the ability to increase velocity, due to needing it to be productive - does he choose to maintain the velocity he showed last year, or does he try to increase it a bit more. 2. He has some of the best control on the staff. If you have control you generally don't fall apart. 3. He is probably our biggest student of the game. He continues to learn, evolve, and learning different ways to get people out. I would gladly take a bet with you that SWR doesn't get shelled this year.
  14. You can judge it based on last year. I am also stating I am not sure I would have gone this route. I would have signed a legit closer. In either case here we are. If they can sign a Dominguez and Rogers, with Sands, Topa, Funderburk, Orze, Klein, Festa. I do like Bash as depth. We aren't contending this year, we are merely trying to put a competent team out there. You cannot like where we are - but if that bullpen is the outcome - its better than a wet paper bag and would probably be middle of the road. You want a finished product. As to throwing a lot of starters at a bullpen problem is a valid solution. You just don't like it. If thats the route they go, I would anticipate some volatility before players begin to settle into roles.
  15. SWR gave us reliable innings and a 2.2 WAR for a bad team. I am not expecting greatness. However an above average MLB #4 borderline #3 starter is pretty damn good.
  16. Depends on which Ober is pitching. If its 2022-2024 Ober - he wins hands down, if its 2025 I like SWR. SWR is smart and extremely reliable starting pitcher. He has extreme value and we just seem reluctant to use him to his full potential. I think he is going to force the issue this year and not give his spot up.
  17. Say what you will, until the last couple of years our bullpen has effectively been a wet paper bag, and still held their own. It was predicated on 1-2 dominant arms. I think we can find enough arms for this year to be ok. Who will be that dominant arm - right now Sands has the upper hand, but I honestly think odds are someone else will or we will sign or trade for someone to take that role and Sands will be the 7th, 8th inning reliever. What we have now more than any other time, is we have a crapload of arms to throw at the bullpen problem. Festa, Matthews, Priellip, Raya, Klein, Adams, Ohl, Rojas, SWR. We have excess starter arms we can throw at the problem. 2-3 will probably turn out to be pretty good. We will be throwing higher talent at the problem than anyone else we have in the past other than Duran. We didn't use a lot of the prospects at the end of last year because the intent was to lose. Now they are trying to win, so we will already have more depth and can run arms up and down to help the bullpen all season and let them find their roles.
  18. 1. Larnach is traded in the next week - prospect reliever not sure 2. They will sign at minimum 1 reliever maybe 2. If we can get Dominguez and another suitable arm, I think most would think the offseason was successful - at least for putting a competent team together. 3. I think Jackson is flipped - a reliever or a better prospect than Eeles
  19. It won't unless performance drastically outperforms.
  20. 1 and 2 will resolve themselves. Now the question is how good will those options being. In the fact that we signed Caratini, I actually have more confidence. Either they are going to be fairly good quality young players into the position sink/swim. Or they have more money which I think they do and a Dominguez or a Robertson signs. Robertson concerns me - but he has the experience. Between trades and filling with prospects, I am actually feeling better about the reliever situation. You have 3 pretty good AAA invitees to spring training - I would get 4 more and have an open competition. If you find 2 legit reliever out of the group you have built the necessary depth. Then find out who can handle the pressure situations.
  21. Well, Larnach is no longer on the list to appear at TwinsFest. As being the player most likely to be traded, I think this is some decent smoke.
  22. What I was referring to was higher level contracts - such as the 2023 class where we gave out 3 - 1+ million contracts Ariel Castro - $2.4 Carlos Silva - $1.1 Hendry Chivilli - $2.1
  23. If Twins were willing to give a top 15 prospect $4 million - they could get one - they have done it in the past, but they really haven't see positive results from that. I think its why I am fine with getting a lot of players who have quite a bit of projection left but have the framework, they could turn into something.
  24. They are as valid as Angel Ozun'a 5 million pre arrangement with the Yankees. These deals can be reneged on ect. The deals are not done until they are singed.
