Now Entering Second Guess Season
Battle ur tail off replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Do you remember game 1? We were up 2-0. The boys were hitting homeruns like that had all season. Bad stuff happened when our 1st baseman didn't catch a ball. Then it compounded when our manager made every bad decision possible when it came to handling the pitching staff. We should have won game 1, hands down. That happens, we are in a much different position. As it were, we lost a winnable game, got spanked in game 2(another game in which the pitching wasn't handled well) and then came home for game three knowing it was just a matter of time before or season was over.- 56 replies

It does however suggest that those other teams were more equipped to handle postseason baseball. And that they didn't piss their pants just by looking over to the opposing team's dugout.

If it were me, I would do my best to get Cole in here, then also turn around and trade Lewis + for whoever you feel the best trade candidate pitcher is available. Polanco, Aaraez, Kepler, Buxton, Sano, Garver. There are enough bats/position players on this team that are young and will be here for a bit yet. If you can trade a top prospect for a young pitcher you feel can be a 1 or 2, DO IT. Quit hanging on to all these guys as if they will all pan out to be Babe Ruth. Lewis could just as easily turn into Aaron Hicks and he can turn into a starting SS. Either way, I'd trade that type of guys for great pitching either way. What is the hold up, really? To me you go into this offseason with the thought of getting one of the top 3 FA starters and using the humongous high end depth in your minor league system to bring in the absolute best arm you can. If you tank after a year or two, go ahead and trade some of that high end pitching and get more prospect back. Take a chance for once! Cole/Wheeler/Baum Berrios Trade for stud(don't ask for names that is what we pay the wonderboys to know) Ordorizi Pineda/Graterol/whoever the hell you want from your system...

He can't just "walk" unless we want him to. I don't hand the keys to some prospect when I have the heart and soul of our team under my control. Keep Rosario. Bring up your other boys and give them a starting spot, expect about a .200/.300/.350 line. They aren't ready and will take a few years to acclimate either way.

Rocco: "I'm not frustrated at all"
Battle ur tail off replied to JeffReboulet's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
He should be happy about the future. But if you asked my how I felt about how my team played this series. I would have flat out said we sucked, I sucked and I apologize that you fans had to go through this again. We WILL be better, I WILL be better. And stick with us because this team is going to be hard to beat going forward. Honesty is cool. Acting like it was ok and "just happy to be here" isn't the thing to say to a fanbase that has watched their team get smoked in the playoffs time and time again. -
This was extremely disappointing. Twins just didn't do any of the little things they needed to do to win even a game this series. I was extremely disappointed in Sano and Garver. Neither did much of anything at the plate, Sano struck out just way too much and Garver didn't give us much either. It hurts when 2 of your better run producers give you nothing. As for Rocco. Please don't ever again think that you have any chance at winning a game with the worst pitchers in your arsenal in Yankee stadium. Use up guys like Berrios, Rogers, May, Duffey until their arms fall off. There is no tomorrow. Oh and a guy like Dobnak is a cool cat, but I would never think about running him out there to start a playoff game. Thank you to Arraez for showing a pulse and showing us he is the best hitter on this team without question. Thank you to Eddie Rosario for hammering a few pitches and actually taking some that weren't hittable. Thank you to Jorge Polanco for giving us good at bats all throughout the series and playing excellent defense. I'm still with this team 100%, but thing will need to change if they want to ever advance in the postseason. The front office could do us fans a solid by actually bringing in a stud or 2 to throw the ball next season. We'll see I guess, but I am not holding my breath.

ALDS Game 3 Preview: Twins vs. Yankees
Battle ur tail off replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Let's score some runs today. Rogers in the 3rd inning if we have to. Have him pitch 2-3 innings if needed. I don't care. Odorizi, May, Duffey, Rogers, Romo. No ones else. . I'm done losing with our worst guys out there. More than one walk or one hit given up in a row, yank em and go to the next guy. Also, Rosario in the 8th or 9th spot. Can't give up so many at bats with guys on base. You just can't swing at every pitch. -
I agree. Never will they have this kind of offensive output going forward. They just won't and those that are expecting it to be THIS good are probably going to be disappointed next season. They should have gone all in. Should have brought in a better bullpen piece at the deadline, should have signed Keuchel and should have traded for Grienke or someone of that caliber. All it would have cost was one of our top 3 guys(prospects), some money and the same kind of prospects we dealt to get Romo and Dyson.

I just don't see them paying Cole. Does anyone realistically think the Twins will pony up what would be needed to get him to come here? Yes, it would be nice, but it will take a pile and the Twins are the cheapest organization in baseball IMO. Probably going to have to be a trade if we want high end pitching. Buxton, Lewis, Kiriloff should all be on the table. They won't be though. Most likely the Twins will have a hard time even giving up on prospects in the 10-20 range and we will trade for a guy that profiles as a #4 starter. It just won't happen here until a guy like Graterol or someone develops into a shutdown guy. Twins have never and likely will never trade for or buy the type of pitching that is needed to make deep playoff runs.

I don't know what to think about this postseason so far. To me the #1 thing I and almost everyone else noticed, is that Rocco is getting schooled. And badly might I add. He really hasn't made a right decision yet. That said, our hitters have been as bad as the pitching has. The patience they displayed earlier on is gone. All of them, except Cruz, looked SCARED up there. Swinging at bad pitches, letting good pitches go, getting themselves out far too often. The pitching..... Uugh. It's been bad, real bad. Not playoff worthy in the least.

Game 1 is just as important as a game 5. Especially to a team that has been manhandled every single time they face the Yankees. Getting beat like that isn't good for an organization that plays the way they do against the Yanks the way it is. I hate to say it, but this series is probably over already. Yanks in 3. They played scared and backed off the first game and now NY smells blood in the water. It's typical, yet disappointing. I hope I am wrong. I really do. Just not really too confident starting Dobnak tonight. Who knows, maybe the guy surprises. That is basically all he has done this year is surprise people. Here's hoping...

I'm with you on your post. As to the first part. If the plan was to keep the bullpen rested for a game 2 that Dobnak starts, then there is zero reason to pull Berrios at 88 pitches in the 4th inning when he just went 1-2-3. He wasn't just mowing them down, but he was battling and if it were me, if he's still effective and you have the mindset of a bullpen game the next day, then push him out to 110-120 pitches.

Ok, 8 walks is acceptable then I guess. Call it not throwing strikes then if you like. My daughters 12u softball team won't win games if they walk 8 girls.

Gotta come and play ball. Enough playing scared. Enough nibbling by the pitchers. Go right after them. For as much as this team talked about how the past didn't matter, they bought in to it hook, line, and sinker last night. It honestly looked like a re-run of every Twins playoff series that last how many times.

Twins hit 3 HRs in the first game of a playoff series. That should get it done if the rest of your lineup gets on base. I agree with you. Lots of bad swings at pitches out of the zone and too many strikeouts. They were caught up in it, you could see that.

But why forfeit a game 1? Silly. Very, very silly. Game 1 is the most important by a long shot. Go all in each game. If towards the end of the series your bullpen is tired, well then you might have to turn to some of those guys. Use and abuse up until then though. There is nothing to save these guys for.

You don't play it safe once you get to the playoffs. The past has shown the team that wins game 1 in a 5 game series wins, it, like 75% of the time. Rocco did a poor job last night. I put this loss on him as much as anyone. At some point you have to realize there are guys that do just fine during the regular season against poor teams in a rotten division, and then there are guys that have real "stuff" and moxie you need to ride when it gets down to brass tacks. I will be extremely disappointed if May, Rogers, and Romo aren't used tonight. I don't care if it is the 4th inning, if a big moment comes up, don't wait, bring in your studs to close the door.

I agree his breaking stuff was too far out of the zone to be competitive, but he pitched alright. He only gave up 1 earned run. He should have been out there for another inning as well, possibly 2. 5-6 IP, 1ER, like 8 Ks. If he had been left to do his thing. I'll take that every single day in a playoff game on the road in Yankee stadium.

Haha. This was reaching at best anyway. We all know the Twins pitching is suspect. Even more so when your manager decides he wants the game in the hands of the bottom of your bullpen rather than your top. I like Rocco, but he made more than 1 poor decision last night. If we are going to lose to the Yankees, lose with your best. You don't need to save guys arms right now it is do or die. The guys he brought in last night besides Duffey, should only be used in games that are already over.

ALDS Game 1 Preview: Twins at Yankees
Battle ur tail off replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree with that Berrios has to give them at least 5 good ones. Let's hope his stuff is great and confidence high.
