  1. Twins need to identify the 2 best arms in free agency or trade and get them. Overpay or deal your guys to get them. Preferably guys under the age of 30. No low end guys, fliers, etc. Get the cats in here that throw 97 with hammer breaking balls. They won't because they are the Twins. But this is the quickest way to get yourself back to being in contention IMO. And it's simple. Most likely all it costs is money.
  2. False, you are cherry picking to make him look bad. Look at his career numbers. Then realize he's got a cannon for an arm and plays his ass off every game. He's slugged around .500 the last few seasons. The guy has serious pop in his bat. I will give you the plate discipline, but here you have a corner outfielder with pop, plays pretty good defense and is in his prime.
  3. What depth is that of what you speak? Buxton? Kepler? Cave? So far none of them are better than average or below average outfield pieces. Rosario is the best hitter in this lineup and plays a good outfield. The outfielders you are counting as depth are either in the minors, or play at best at a replacement level. Aim higher for once, seriously. It would be one thing if Kiriloff was up here and producing, but the guy hasn't played about A ball. There is as good a chance he flops, than he is a major league starter capable of playing as good or better than Rosario. Trading Rosario only happens for me if you get an ace pitcher back. That is it, he is untouchable in my eyes. Rosario + Gordon or something for Degrom? Maybe then, but that's about it. You know that won't happen. I would see the offer for him being some kind of BS prospect and a middling type ballplayer. Not worth it. Go for high end talent or go home. Kepler, I just don't see him bringing back enough to make it worth trading him. He is worth more to us than anyone else.
  4. Trade Rosario?? I am going to have to strongly disagree with this kind of thinking. Always playing for the future sucks. "Our prospects will take over!!" Or, "let's play some 5th outfielder fodder and try to pass them off as major league corner outfielders? Don't like it. Here you have an above average outfielder that is a hell of a hitter, he's young. plays with fire every game and you want to move him? Kiriloff, if you haven't noticed is in A ball. Might he make it and be better than Rosario? Yes, he might, but chances are he WON'T. Kepler? Why move him for what will probably amount to a bench player type? Because that is all he is worth on the open market. I'm sick of getting smoked in every trade we make.
  5. I think it MIGHT be time we admit the fact that Sano is never going to play the field. And I also think it might be time to admit that Buxton will never hit. It was plain as day the first week he was up, that Buxton possesses little to no hitting skills. He just doesn't. I don't know how scouts could have missed on this guy so bad, he has no clue at the plate. Sano needs to just focus on hitting and not worry about playing the field. DH him and be done with it. Take the extra reps at the plate and become one of the best hitters of this generation. All he does is get hurt when he plays in the field anyway. If it were me, I would work on Buxton bunting the damn ball, hitting it into the ground, and stealing bases. He will never hit for power the way he is constantly guessing up there. This isn't Rickey Henderson here, he's very similar to that guy the Royals had a few years ago that could run like hell and field, but not much else. I honestly hope I am wrong here, but if what we have seen so far is any indication, this might the road to take. It sucks, but these guys probably have 1 year left of full time player status and then its time to move a different direction. All of that said. There is NO WAY I give up and trade these guys or release them. We have seen it happen too many times and even as bit players, these guys are plenty valuable. Keep them around. But be prepared if it doesn't happen this year to move from them being your cornerstones.
  6. Well, our minor leagues hasn't really produced anyone since the M&M boys. Obviously there were a few, but very few difference makers. That's IMO, the largest problem with this team. Kids perform in the minors, then come up here and do very little. Maybe the leagues they play are not good? I don't know, just seems like minor league numbers haven't translated around here for quite a few years now.
  7. I'd say Berrios, but Gibson had a great season also. I give it Berrios because he has more left to improve. I honestly don't see Gibson being any better than he was this past year. In fact, I'd plan on him trending down from here on out if I was running the show. Contractually, I wouldn't do anything with any of them. If Berrios makes it the next couple of years and keeps improving, go ahead and extend him then. There is too much that can go wrong to give him big money right away. Gibson, we have seen him capable of being good yes, but have also seen him be pretty poor as well. Make him prove it again next year. Unless he would be willing to sign an extension that locks him up for 2019-2021 at a reasonable price, then I guess I'd listen.
  8. Sign me up. A winner. That's what Thome was. Not sure if he would be good or not, but he's a great guy and would sure be interesting and probably put butts in the seats.
  9. I don't care one way or another that Molitor was fired. I think he probably got the axe because all of our young players this year didn't do so well. Sans Eddie Rosario anyway. We all had to know also, that he is not Falvine's GUY and that they have probably been waiting to get rid of him and would have done so last year had they not made the playoffs/manager of the year, etc.
  10. Well, kind of. They are all C level guys to begin with. And they gave you C-D level production. These are the types of moves the Twins need to quit making.
  11. Because they should bring in a DH that's gonna mash or put Sano there and find a 3B. DH is the one position you don't have to be any good at anything else but hitting for power. Shouldn't be too hard to find one.
  12. If they don't give that guy a spot next year it's a tragedy. He's a damn winner, can't they see that? I'll take him at the very least as a backup/bench player. The other 2 catchers are boring and not that great anyway. Garver can hit, but is not very good behind the dish and Castro is a terrible hitter and doubt he comes back to do anything worth a snort anyway after his injury. Why not give this guy a chance?
  13. Yah, I'm sure we need to be real worried about building a roster. Dump heap signings and youngs guys with C level talent? If the Twins are serious, they fire Molitor the day after the WS, buy the best Manager available and sign Manny Machado. They won't do either and will sit on their hands until all of the good guys are traded away or signed to teams that want to win. Let Mauer have his time. If he decides to come back, who is getting knocked out because of it? Some AAAA player? Not a big deal.
  14. I don't want him to quit. I would however like to see him back here in a bench role. I think he still adds value to the team and I feel he has another good season or 2 in him. I think the deciding factor for him will be, does this team have a chance to win? He's looking at it now and seeing there is a pretty good chance the Twins are in it for another rebuild. If that's the case, he could and should retire. If management lets him know they are actually going to go out and do some wheeling and dealing to make a run at it, I could see him sticking around.
  15. Hmm, Correa won a WS and was the #4 hitter in their lineup. He also gets on base at a high clip and hits for power. Buxton has been a bust so far. Correa hurt this year, yep, that's about the only comparison you could do with those 2 guys are hitters. I agree, we need him to produce. But so far he has shown literally nothing at the plate. If he can't be better than a .200 or under hitter or learn to get on base at a .330 or better clip, he will be useless to this organization.
  16. Go ahead and take your list of minor leaguers there, put the names into a hat and pull out 4 names. That is how many will stick, now put those 4 into a hat and pull out 1 more name. That is how many will be better than league average. Don't let the Twins love of anyone with a pulse in the minor leagues cloud you judgement. They haven't developed any real successful players for YEARS.
  17. I'd say just put Sano at DH and be done with it. Have him work on his hitting and nothing else. He is not here to field ground balls, he is here to hit them over the fence. Less chance for injury, focus on one thing, etc. His best stretch of baseball in his short major league career is when he was DHing anyway.
  18. You can't do a full teardown, there is nothing left to tear down. You have to go into next season with the expectation that Sano and Buxton will lead this team. There is really no other way to go about it. If they don't, then figure another 4-5 years to be relevant again. I'd do whatever it takes to get one of the Mets stud starters. I'd trade any prospect they have other than the SS and the lefthanded outfielder. Twins have a history of ruining kids anyway, what good are they to us? Get a real #1 in here, sign Cruz and pickup the 2 best relievers in free agency. Bam - division title.
  19. I'd try to go after Nelson Cruz on a 1 or 2 year deal. He's a bopper, Twins had a chance on him a few years back and didn't get him when they should've. Bring him in and let him DH. Find someone to play either one of the infield spots besides 1B. If you can find someone to play 3B, move Sano to 1. If you find a SS, move Polanco to 2B and if you find a 2B, leave everyone where they are at. Bullpen. Have to find at least 2 very solid guys of this will be a huge problem for them next year. We have money, spend it on the 2 best guys available.
  20. I'd trade him for whatever you can get for him here this week. Look to sign or trade for a 2B or SS that has some real talent. Yes, this will cost either money or prospects. I don't want to bring back a fringe guy like Forsythe. He'd be fine as a bench piece on a 1-year deal to backup some of the infield, but that's it for me. Set your sights higher. I don't have a lot of faith in Gordon, so if you want to go and trade for someone younger, go ahead and do so. Then use Gordon as trade bait when needed.
  21. Both guess too much right now. Hopefully it improves. It's like some people don't even watch the games and just look at numbers. Sometimes seeing is believing. He basically just has to lay off any over the outside part of the plate for now. Teams aren't dumb and will continue to fool these guys until they wise up. Don't throw them many strikes and soft stuff away is all it takes. Sano has been a little better since he got back though, I will say that. I have said the same thing about Delmon Young when he first got here. The guy played a couple games and it was obvious he would never be the great player they thought he would be. He swung at everything and was lost in the field.
  22. Because he can't hit and is injury prone. He might like the security. One decent deal and he's set for life.
  23. This is a good post and I'd aim even higher. I'd want a guy in that top 30 or so range. There needs to be a stud coming back if you trade Gibson. Even if you get less in the amount of players back, getting someone you can be pretty sure will make an impact would be a must for me if I was making that kind of trade.
  24. Don't hate the fact that they moved him if they weren't gonna try to keep him for next year. The return isn't as good as I would have hoped, but I guess that is what a rental type player of his caliber goes for. The people that say he will sign back here or that the Twins will even attempt it though are probably fooling themselves. This rarely, if ever happens.
  25. I'd keep him and look to this offseason to make a decision on him. Try to extend him for a reasonable amount, and if he won't do it, you can always trade him then when you have a multitude of teams looking for starting pitching help. I just think with how well he's pitched, you have to at least consider making him a part of this team for the next few years. If he won't have it, or wants way too much money, then go and see what you can get for him, but I think a major sit down talk and see what we can do needs to happen before they trade him.
