  1. I like the Yelich comp. I don't think there is a current Twins player, besides maybe Rosario, that I want to do well more than Max Kepler.
  2. So, according to the FO, there are "playing time concerns" for Buxton. But last night Mollie trotted out Grossman and something called "Johnny Field". The MLBPA is going to be all over that. We also apparently don't have enough innings to audition guys like Anderson and Reed b/c.....what, we want a good look at Matt Belisle??? I'm a patient guy. A diehard, lifelong Twins fan. But the FO is going to really try fans' patience with these type of decisions.
  3. It's just sort of a best-case plan. That's where you start. If he gets dinged, then the plan changes.
  4. Of course. Although he did basically start with the top of the order after May allowed the 4 runs and 5 hits in the first.
  5. Oh. And good for Kohl Stewart!! How cool would it have been if he'd started the game, put in that performance 10 minutes from where he grew up, and left after five innings after battling the great Justin Verlander to a 0-0 tie instead of leaving in a 4-0 hole??
  6. THANK. YOU!!!! Your starters are your best pitchers. Many bullpen guys are failed starters...even the best ones. Why would you start a game...against the best part of an opponents lineup, with your, say, 8th best pitcher?? Analytics (i.e. the shift) have exposed weaknesses in hitters (how pathetic is it that a MLB hitter can't or won't hit the ball the other way. Or is completely incapable of pushing a bunt toward third?!), but analytics may have outsmarted itself with the opener concept. Geez, just play the friggin' game!
  7. Exactly. Levine has talked about how "Joe has earned the right to....". I think it's all lip service. These Ivy League "baseball guys" are all business.
  8. I hate it, but I tend to be in the SD/Cody camp. After what Falvey did over the weekend, I think they quietly push him toward retirement. And, when concussion symptoms return after just diving for a pop up, maybe it'd be in Joe's best interest to hang 'em up. If he returns, I think they can limit him to around 100 games at 1B and about 40 at DH. He and Tyler Austin may make an interesting 1B/DH platoon. Sano can play 125 at 3B, 25 at DH.
  9. The bullpen shuttle will continue, so we'll likely see those type of guys go up and down. Other than Nick Gordon, I have absolutely NO idea when we'll see any of these kids. But MAN it's fun to think about this team's future if a high(ish) percentage of these prospects pan out.
  10. I hate to even say it, but might this move be about Joe Mauer's concussion symptoms? And the fact that the Twins are highly susceptible to leftys? If Joe can't return soon, Morrison stays at 1B. Is Sano then your 3B or DH? If he's your 3B and Escobar goes back to SS, then who's your DH? Carter simply provides another RH option.
  11. Terrific effort from Odorizzi. Bad approach/game plan from Twins hitters.
  12. Old school guy myself. Why can't we just say "other teams just aren't hitting ball very hard off of him" like we used to?!
  13. Sorry, but Kendrys Morales was not good the short time he was here. I think these FA/FO are learning that ST actually is important....see, Arrieta, Cobb, Lynn, Morrison, etc.
  14. Kyle Gibson has always had the stuff. His 2-seamer/sinker are ridiculous with their movement. I think he's just finally gotten out of his own way....stopped overthinking everything/trying to be too fine and just trusts his stuff.
  15. Beating the White Sox three times certainly does not mean issues are gone, but given the fact that they are playing without Buxton, Sano, Castro and Erv, expectations need to be tempered and we better take any win we can get.
  16. When you have a projected lineup that is set up to be top 5 in the AL, expectations are high. Take Polanco, Buxton and now Sano out of it and the ceiling for the lineup drops considerably. Yes, Buxton and Sano struggled early (as usual), but we also know that the current version of the lineup is likely not capable of much more than they are getting. Biggest problem lately is the inability to add on from about the 5th on.
  17. So much for Romero coming up in August to boost the bullpen. This should not have surprised anyone after how he threw in ST.
  18. Phil Hughes has always seemed like a stand up guy. I think he has worked extremely hard to try and come back from injury so he can earn that payday. It really is too bad b/c he was terrific in 2014 and just has not been healthy since then. Ideally for the Twins he would retire. But at some point, I think they just need to cut their losses and let him go...paycheck and all.
  19. ....this is not on the FO. Falvine had a terrific offseason. Experts agreed. The big elephant in the room is why SO many players are struggling. Also, it doesn't help that Sano has hammy issues (for about the 10th time) and that bad luck struck Buxton (for about the 10th time). We haven't even talked about Erv....
  20. It's pretty simple. Name the players who have exceeded expectations. Go ahead. Pressly? Escobar? Now....name the players who have not met expectations. Go ahead. Exactly.
  21. I wouldn't say "quietly" struggling. I don't know if I've ever seen a hitter, esp a lefty, swing and miss as much as Jason Castro. Gotta hold out hope that there is a regression to the mean of his career.
  22. Ditt. O. Why does this team always seem to leave its big boy pants at home when they go to NY?
  23. Kinley does not belong in the bigs. We all know that. The FO took a swing and appears to have missed. However, Tyler Kinley isn't the problem right now. What happened to Taylor Rogers? Trevor Hildenberger? Tyler Duffey? Addison Reed is going to continue to be terrific. Fernando Rodney is exactly who he is. But if those other guys don't turn things around quickly, this bullpen is going to be a mess. Again.
  24. Good to see Twins be part of the Puerto Rico series...power outage and all. Was great to get a picture of that island and it's truly unbelievable baseball heritage. Weekend at the Trop? Well, let's hope that come September we'll be saying "remember when they got swept at Tampa?!" when the Twins have about locked up a playoff spot. It's still April people.
  25. ...as in, get Zach Duke out of the 7th inning role and to a lefty specialist. Rogers, Pressly, Reed, Rodney can be a very good back end of the 'pen.
