  1. Eh, it's not a tough statistical break because Gibson has been playing with fire all season. He's not missing bats, hasn't been particularly good at keeping the ball on the ground recently, yet had a good ERA. One could argue that he had a few "bad breaks" coming because he was a lot worse than his numbers indicated.
  2. Not really a tough break. An equalization of luck for a groundball pitcher who isn't keeping the ball on the ground. The dude is a gas can waiting for a match to be dropped.
  3. Brian Dozier doesn't like making mistakes. This is Brian Dozier showing contrition.
  4. Gonna be hard to send him down if he keeps doing this. But it's unlikely that he'll keep doing this.
  5. I never expected much from Willingham this season but it'd still be nice to have him, particularly in a platoon role with Kubel.
  6. Indeed. If they can get Wilson through waivers, it's a pretty good move. He has a chance to become a role player down the road. If he doesn't clear waivers, their run of confusing moves continues to confuse.
  7. Ah, gotcha. Yeah, he's not anywhere near being ready to face MLB pitching right now. But while we're on the topic of mislabels... Hey, Chris Herrmann is listed as an OF on the 40 man. Really?
  8. Is that directed at Wilson? According to what I've read, he's quite good in the field.
  9. Well, as of yesterday they had three of their Opening Day outfielders on the DL. That's pretty significant. It's something they should have been able to overcome by scraping together a make-shift lineup for two days but it's still significant.
  10. So Wilson was waived. My brain hurts. What do they have against putting outfielders on the 40 man roster?
  11. Huh. That hadn't even occurred to me. You're right, Plouffe should have been in left two days ago. Or the Twins could have called up an outfielder (or even Nunez). That would have worked as well.
  12. I think they're just letting him shake off the rust in A+. I expect to see him in New Britain once that happens. Had he not gotten injured, I think he would have started the season in NB.
  13. I think it's too early to say such things about Arcia. Both of his injuries has been wrist-related. Wrist injuries are a bitch and sometimes, they take a long time to fully heal. Remember, JJ Hardy was a chronic DL player... Until he wasn't and played 317 games in two seasons for Baltimore.
  14. Brian Dozier is hiding a mighty big baseball brain underneath that glorious mane. The guy simply does everything right.
  15. I view him a lot like Dozier with a higher ceiling but lower floor. Dozier was a pretty solid prospect for the Twins who got by on smarts and discipline. Santana is kind of the opposite... Which gives him a higher ceiling but a higher chance of flaming out as well. Those guys are really valuable in an organization but only in quantity because so many bomb out before they become Brian Dozier. Even Brian Dozier almost bombed out before he became Brian Dozier.
  16. He's a decent prospect, for sure... But he's not even close to a guy like Aaron Hicks and we all see how that is currently going for the Twins. If you have an organization with Danny Santana in it and he's somewhere around #15 on the prospect list, that's pretty good. And that's where the Twins currently sit... But Danny Santana isn't a great prospect by any stretch of the imagination. Unless something drastically changes, he'll never sniff anyone's top 100 list.
  17. And that's fair. They could have easily booted several other bad players off the 40 man and kept Mastro. They didn't have to swap Fuld for Mastroianni. Looking at the 40 man, they currently have eight OF on the roster including Chris Herrmann. So really, they have seven OF on the 40 man. Four of those OF are injured. Ugh.
  18. Yep. I can't put into words how bad an idea it is to let a 20 year old kid "shake off the rust" in MLB games when he's never played a game above high A.
  19. I look at shortstop and see almost zero upside. Escobar is a utility guy. Nunez is a butcher. Santana just isn't ready and even his ceiling isn't that high. Sure, they're all better than Florimon but that's like saying a kick in the shin is better than a kick in the nuts.
  20. That's my point. He should have been the callup the day before, not Guerrier. Or if the team absolutely needed Guerrier on the roster for some inexplicable reason, they could have demoted Florimon and called up Nunez. Again, the Twins had so many options over the past few weeks and they made the wrong choice at almost every turn. It's breathtaking, really. They kept piling up infielders and relievers while leaving all potential OF help in the minors.
  21. Sure, through the offseason... But as we neared and passed Opening Day, nearly all the focus went to center while Florimon was posting an OPS+ that made Drew Butera look like an All-Star. At least in center, they were rolling the dice on a promising young player. At short, the writing was on the wall that we were looking at another Juan Castro situation.
  22. He has about 15 MLB games in the outfield in his career. Given his speed and overall athleticism, he should be able to play OF in a pinch (which is why I was so completely floored that he wasn't in the lineup for yesterday's game).
  23. He can't be worse than Florimon. As much consternation as there has been over centerfield, I don't understand why people haven't been more critical of shortstop, which was the glaring flaw of the roster going into the season in my opinion. The Opening Day shortstop had an OPS+ of 0 over 74 PAs. By comparison, Aaron Hicks looks like Barry Bonds next to that guy.
