  1. I think it's only fair if we give at least a small nod to Anderson for coaching a pitcher to success if we're going to dig at him for the same happening to another pitcher who leaves. And I'm no Anderson fan. He's the one guy on the coaching staff who I wouldn't think too long and hard about retaining.
  2. Well done. This illustrates why tempered reason should prevail over unbridled enthusiasm for a middling player with limited upside. Hey, maybe Escobar keeps it up. That'd be great for all of us... But if you're banking on that happening, you're going to lead a very bitter baseball life as the vast majority of players end up disappointing you.
  3. Right now, I actually have more questions about Meyer. He'll almost certainly be the better pitcher in the long run but he's developing a new pitch. Hard to rely on a rookie at the MLB level who is working on a new offering. My opinion is to leave him down and let him develop that change-up, particularly if it looks like he's making progress with it in Rochester.
  4. The discussion is relevant. Yeah, the top three MiLB hitters have been disappointing but in the long run, it might be a good thing for the team. One year back pushes them toward one year of control during a prime season. If they both recover, it should be okay. On the upside, Vargas is absolutely mashing the ball from both sides of the plate in AA. He's on the 40 man so we'll probably see him some time this season. Rosario should get back up to speed relatively quickly, so we might see him early next season. Help is on the way, it's just not the name(s) we were expecting to see.
  5. Usually some time between June 5-15th, I believe.
  6. I don't expect much of Escobar but what we're seeing is the reason I wanted him to get the starting job in the first place. Unlike Florimon, the guy has some upside. (of course, buying a FA shortstop would have been the best option but hey, at least Escobar is playing now)
  7. The Twins started off pretty well last season, going 18-17 over their first 35 games. After that point, they rattled off ten straight losses and ended the season miserably. So, the Twins are now 19-20 after 39 games, which puts them above their 18-21 record at this point last season. Progress!
  8. And that's what I get for trashing Hicks. I'll take that every day. Aaron Hicks, you're awful. The worst. You eat babies on off days.
  9. I think deep down, even Kurt Suzuki is surprised by Kurt Suzuki.
  10. Damn it. Come on, Hicks. Last guy I want to see at the plate right now.
  11. *shakes head in disbelief* Where did this Kurt Suzuki come from?
  12. Yeah, but Burton wasn't doing anything right. In April, he walked eight guys and struck out four. He had several outings that didn't tag him with earned runs but he was pretty miserable overall.
  13. I don't think they'll have much of a choice, particularly with Parmelee on the 25 man.
  14. I really thought Burton might be done after his April. Looks like the Twins were right to keep him and let him work through his issues.
  15. I've seen a good prospect in Hicks struggle. I haven't seen enough of Danny Santana to alter my opinion one bit. Lots of guys come up and have a good week. Most fail miserably after that point as the league adjusts before establishing their real baseline for play, as high or low as that might be (but generally in line with their MiLB numbers, which puts Santana around a .680-.720 OPS). Chris Parmelee had an OPS over 1.000 in his first month of play. Not a week, a month. And we saw how that turned out in 2012 and 2013. He OPSed under .670 in those two partial seasons.
  16. A bit disappointing to not see Hughes take the mound in the seventh.
  17. That's Phil Hughes' bread and butter. Like Scott Baker, he can thrive up in the zone.
  18. Yep. No BB in past 3+ starts.
  19. Nice. Ks Ortiz. Now 0-2 for the day.
  20. I'm also of the opinion that it's best to DFA Correia and move on. This team is in borderline contention and this fills two needs: 1. Clears up roster space for a guy who will be with the team long-term 2. That guy will probably be a better pitcher than Kevin Correia It's good for both the short- and long-term.
  21. Hughes with 37 pitches through three innings. Nice.
  22. Same here. Thankfully, Joe is striking out less in recent days so in time, maybe the doubles will return as well.
  23. Chris Parmelee. Man muscles. Strong like bull.
  24. If I were a betting man, I'd lop about a third of that OPS off if Santana plays an entire season. I like Santana and have enjoyed watching him play but a lot of hopes and prayers are being put on a kid who wasn't particularly good in the minors.
