  1. I was kind of hoping Correia would tank last night. Oh well.
  2. Dude, his OPS is .110 lower than it was last season and he was a below average bat last season. Hicks has been quite a bit better at the plate in 2014. That's how bad Revere has been thus far.
  3. The kid could be working on any number of things. I'm not the least bit concerned. If he advances a level and the issue continues, then it's time to wonder about his upside.
  4. Nope, that has always been there. When I redesign the theme, its function will be more prominent. I don't know why they hid the button so it looks like a title instead of a flyout menu.
  5. Not true. Gomez posted a 76 OPS+ in his age 24 season, which was his best season to that point. Hicks, also in his age 24 season, currently has an OPS+ of 74. Both were bad before age 25. Very, very bad. Gomez obviously improved, time will tell whether Hicks does the same.
  6. Agreed. I only want Suzuki back if it's a one year deal with the expectation that Pinto will transition to the starting role during that period.
  7. Oh, I agree. Hicks is having problems making contact... But that's not necessarily linked to his passivity at the plate. He may be taking more pitches because he's afraid to swing and miss but I view Hicks' discipline and inability to make contact as different issues with some overlap. I think the contact issues are more closely correlated with his strikeout rate, which is still too high.
  8. Yep. I'll take the overly passive guy with great discipline over the guy who swings at everything. It's a lot easier to teach a guy to swing than the opposite.
  9. I'd take him for free but only because the Twins' OF situation is so barren. Given Revere's slide this season, it's not guaranteed that he's an upgrade over either Hicks or Fuld. I might pick him up to help Hicks develop in AAA but that's it.
  10. Hah, here's a good one. Aaron Hicks' OPS+ of 74 is higher than Denard Span at 71 and Ben Revere at 61.
  11. In the stats business, I believe that is called "gettin' lucky".
  12. Seems to me that Rosario should be returning to play in the next 7-10 days. Is that right? It will be interesting to see how long it takes him to shake off the rust. It'd be fantastic if he could get some time in Minnesota this September.
  13. Given their lack of options and the fact that he's been playing much better, may as well roll him out there and see what happens.
  14. It's kind of interesting that in Carlos Gomez' age 24 season, he had an OPS+ of 76. Currently, Hicks is sporting an OPS+ of 74 in his age 24 season. Though it's basically impossible for two players to look any different up and down the stat sheet. Gomez was no discipline with some power and Hicks is all discipline with no power.
  15. I wouldn't. Revere and Hicks have an identical -0.2 WAR. At least Hicks is on the upswing right now.
  16. Batting practice machines don't usually throw 96mph, nor do they have a decent chance of taking off the batter's head with errant throws.
  17. That's fair. I think we're pretty much in agreement on this.
  18. I mean that the trade was fundamentally solid from the Twins' standpoint and therefore it was a good one. They traded a one-tool player for a back-of-the-rotation arm and a minor leaguer with solid upside. Sometimes, even the "best" trades don't work out as intended due to a myriad of reasons.
  19. The Hardy/Gomez trade would have been a win all around had the Twins not, you know, traded Hardy for a faulty 96mph pitching machine.
  20. Yeah, I'd be curious to see Gomez' projections as well. I think we can all agree that Hicks will never become an adequate MLB hitter until he changes something about his approach. He won't simply get better through magical osmosis. He's not making good contact. That's not something that magically goes away, he needs to change his approach or swing, probably both.
  21. Underestimation is only one side of the projection coin. On top of projecting regression from good players, most systems also project bad players to get better. Both ideas are incredibly flawed for obvious reasons.
  22. There is simply no way to know that for sure. Hicks has looked awful but he's just 24 and has less than a season of plate appearances. I'm as disappointed in him as the next guy but there's simply no reason to make that kind of declaration at this point in Hicks' career. Does he look like he'll be an adequate corner OF at the plate? Right now, absolutely not... But he still has a lot of plate appearances in front of him before we'll know that for sure.
  23. Those are runs, not wins.
  24. If you go to TwinsDaily.com it pulls up the forum root? That's... odd. I've tested the theme on multiple devices and I've never seen that before. The icons are pretty standard internet fare. A search glass and four bars for the main menu. Never been fond of the "3/4 bars" to represent a menu but it's what people are using across the internet.
