  1. That may be enough for you but it's not enough for me. Again, I'm not bashing the guy, I'm merely skeptical... When it comes to GMs, I really boil it down to three things: 1. Sustained competitiveness 2. Postseason 3. Rings Whether a team makes the WC game or the ALCS doesn't really matter to me. It's a playoff appearance and the team ends up at the same point whether they play four additional games or not. They made it to the postseason, which is somewhat of a crapshoot, but didn't advance. The next level is (obviously) winning a ring and that's what matters. To compare Ryan and Anthopoulos - and it's not an entirely fair comparison because Ryan has been GM for so much longer - Ryan has proven one and two. Anthopoulos has proven two. Neither has accomplished three. Would Anthopoulos accomplish one if he stayed the Jays' GM for 2-3 more seasons? It's possible but given the make-up of that team, I'm skeptical he built a team for sustained success. The Jays' system is rather depleted at this point and the Jays are sitting at home, just like everybody else. They have Tulo for three more seasons - whether that's good or bad remains to be seen but I worry about his health playing on turf 81 times a year - and they'll almost surely lose Bautista after the 2016 season.
  2. He definitely deserves credit for the prospects but Anthopoulos inherited Jose Bautista and struck dumb-luck-gold with the guy. A complete aberration. He made some pretty questionable trades for Reyes, Dickey. Chris Colabello became a monster through a bit of skill and ridiculous luck. And that's the root of my skepticism. He's a young GM so it's possible he's learning and improving as he makes mistakes... Or it's possible a perfect storm of luck fueled his 2015 season, the only season his team has won more than 85 games. Yeah, the Jays play in the AL East but there's still plenty of room for skepticism about how savvy Anthopoulos is as a general manager. One good season isn't going to win me over completely.
  3. That's really the root of my question. Is he learning and improving or did he just happen to strike gold? That's why I made the Williams comparison. Williams struck gold but wasn't a very good GM overall. I believe his teams only cracked 90 wins twice in a dozen or so years as GM.
  4. Eh, I remain unconvinced. Is he actually a good GM or did he have a really good July? The guy's track record is... spotty. And that's being generous. I'm not against making a move but I'm skeptical of Anthopoulous. He reminds me a bit of Kenny Williams without a ring. Lots of commotion and "action", very little in the way of results most of the time. The flurry and bluster is disproportionate to the actual wins on the field.

  6. Meyer walks too many people but based on some interesting comments made by Ryan in the upcoming handbook interview, that may not be a deal breaker if Alex stays in the pen.
  7. I was surprised to hear they're adding yet another bar... But on the other hand, I almost never make it out to CF so I have no idea what kind of amenities (or lack thereof) they offer out there. Like others, I question the need for another bar when the stadium has few family-friendly options (though I don't have kids myself).
  8. Pinto is mentioned in the interview, albeit briefly.
  9. This is the largest handbook we've ever created. The final version is 101 pages!
  10. By the way, this year's handbook is going to be nearly 50% longer than the previous handbook... I just wrapped up designing 34 (!) pages of free agency players.
  11. True. I overlooked that aspect of it.
  12. While he's not perfect, I'd be all on board with a run at Wieters. All it requires is money.
  13. I'm not going to get into a prolonged argument about it but we hardly "beg" for access. As I've come to discover, there was one piece of that post the Twins didn't want released publicly and it's probably the last thing you'd expect. And we respected that request after prolonged debate. Criticize us as you will but at least show a little integrity when you do it. We were transparent not as an acquiescence to the Twins, but to be honest with our users. We could have simply deleted the thread and brushed it off as moderation because that thread was ripe for it. Instead, we tried to be open and honest about it. If you want to criticize that decision, so be it. That's fair... But your petty shots at the writers who spend thousands of hours a year delivering content YOU want to read will not sit well with me.
  14. I'm not sure what you're asking here. The Twins will likely have to put Suzuki on a short platoon in his last season under this contract. Why not do that in 2016 instead of 2017? If the team wants Suzuki back in 2017, they could make that happen for $3-4m, not $6m.
  15. I don't know if it's that unlikely. While we all disagree with the front office's decisions at times, they can't be completely oblivious to the financial risk of letting Suzuki vest a $6m option for 2017.
  16. I think it's really wrong-headed to look for a catcher to complement Suzuki. The Twins should be looking for a catcher who Suzuki can complement, not the other way around.
  17. Mad? Heh, no. Tired? Hell yes. Criticism is fine. It's welcomed, actually. But I have little patience for passive aggressive juvenile bull****. I'm worn down by its ever persistent aspect of the internet culture. It shouldn't be too much to ask adults to act like adults after we tried to be as transparent as possible about this difficult situation, one we talked about at length before making the decision.
  18. Feel free to go somewhere else.
  19. By the way, thanks for all the questions, everyone. Parker held the interview this morning and we're in the process of transcribing the audio now.
  20. Yeah, that's exactly what happened. You can read between the lines and draw whatever conclusion you please, I'll continue to laugh at and disregard your obviously biased opinion. In other words, scorching hot take, bro.
  21. To be perfectly frank, I have no knowledge of the advisory board or its purpose, only that it exists as a thing... And I learned that about two hours ago.
  22. First off, I'd like to thank DRizzo for creating such a great thread, one that certainly caught my own interest as I read through the discussion. Unfortunately, the Twins politely asked to remove the thread so we, as a group, decided to hide the thread from public viewing. This is the first time we have done such a thing on Twins Daily or any MinnCentric site and we did not take the decision lightly. Initially, we asked the Twins "Why should it be removed? Isn't this public knowledge on a public conference call?" but once we learned the specifics of the call and its intentions, we agreed to the front office's request. While we respect original content and information - which is why we did not remove the thread after the initial request - this conversation could adversely affect the Twins' internal operations and their public planning for the upcoming season. The details of the conversation were not intended to be public knowledge and were said to an advisory board. The Twins were gracious in the request, gracious after our initial hesitation, and have been nothing but understanding through this process. Again, I stress this decision was not made lightly. And double again, we'd like to thank DRizzo for the great thread and all the conversation it spurred on the site.
  23. Thanks. I'll give it a look.
  24. I'm using bone-stock installs of IE and Edge and it appears to work correctly. Is this still an issue?
  25. Testing testing this Edge thing.
