  1. Agreed, which is why I wouldn't have called for a bunt... but it wasn't the most egregious example of bunting I've seen recently.
  2. I'm not sure Meyer will ever amount to anything either but Twins fans made a much bigger deal of shedding Nolasco's contract than it deserved. There was absolutely nothing stopping the Twins from keeping Meyer and DFAing Nolasco at any point during this season. And it's possible, maybe even likely, that would have been the smart decision once all of this plays out.
  3. In all seriousness, that wasn't a terrible place to bunt. Tie game, runner on second, seventh inning. With Buxton, you have a good chance he'll reach safely. If he doesn't, he advances the runner to third with one out. I love to complain about bunting but that was an acceptable time to call a bunt. I would have let Buxton swing away - after all, it was the seventh inning with no outs - but whatever. I don't have to agree with every decision 100% all the time.
  4. As he should, that was the kind of trade this team should have been making regularly from 2011-2016. Of course, the Meyer trade was... eh, not so hot.
  5. I think this is a good example why the truly advanced teams have begun moving away from shifting all day, every day.
  6. I AM BASKING IN THE TEARS OF YOU SO-CALLED BASEBALL "EXPERTS" RUB SOME DIRT ON IT AND WALK IT OFF AMIRITE
  7. See, bunting totally works. To successfully score after a bunt, all you need is an overly energetic runner at third, a twitchy pitcher on the mound, and a balk call. Happens every day.
  8. Ted Williams was cut a long time ago by his son. Or, maybe more accurately, severed.
  9. In no way did I intend for that post to be read as "the Twins should not acquire a starter". And May will start the season on the team unless something goes wrong. I hope it's in the rotation but we're still a long way from that point.
  10. Well, it just so happens I left out an entire rotation spot where the Twins can go find a legit pitcher.
  11. I suspect that with two guys above him in the hierarchy, he's mostly an organizational, coordination guy. Not everyone needs to be a baseball expert; teams also need the guys who make sure the right people are at the right place at the right time. And maybe he's good in that role. Or maybe he's super-malleable and picked up on the new org right off the bat. *shrugs*
  12. Two small corrections: 1. Maybe should be very lightly pencilled into Gibson's rotation spot. 2. It's not Gibson's rotation spot. But really, I question starting May in the rotation. Lots of time for him to show whether he has any feel for breaking stuff, which is often a problem coming out of surgery. I hope he's a lock for the rotation but it's a long road to April. A league average May added to a league average Mejia and Santana, fronted by a good Berrios is actually a starting pitching rotation. We haven't seen one of those in MInnesota for over half a decade.
  13. Huh. Am I the only person who finds it weird that they waited until August 6th to promote Gonsalves to AAA as Chattanooga winds down its season (and postseason)? I guess this puts Gonsalves in line to get a September promotion but hell, if you're going to do that, just call him up to Minnesota today and be done with it.
  14. The thing is that I'm moderately confident that Gonsalves will not be worse than Gibson and/or Colon. And, god forbid, he might actually surprise people and be good. It has happened before.
  15. This is how professional operations transition. Not everyone in the old system was bad. Not all of the good people in the old system will gracefully transition to the new. I don't like seeing people lose their jobs but it's necessary. The organization needs to move forward and that means some people won't make the cut. This is happening earlier than I expected but once you think about it, firing people in August makes a lot of sense. It gives you two months to recruit new people and enter the offseason running.
  16. I'm a little surprised Thorpe is all the way down at 15 on the Twins list. Would anyone here put either Jay or Stewart 6-7 slots ahead of Lewis at this point? I may put Jay ahead of Thorpe but I'd have to think long and hard about it.
  17. My request is pretty simple. I want to see young pitchers and I want to see the Twins play 4+ games over .500 the rest of the way, closing the season with no fewer than 82 wins.
  18. Yeah, possibly, but I think he's probably the highest ceiling guy in AA. While the bullpen help would have been nice, I prefer to keep him in the rotation and get him ready for 2018. It's not as if the Twins didn't have other options. They simply chose not to really try any of them, which is frustrating.
  19. Sure, same here, in just not sure it mattered much. Either way, Romero wasn't going to play a key role this season due to innings.
  20. And that is correct. They won't burn an option unless they demote Gonsalves for 20 days. Which would be quite the challenge, as the MiLB season ends in a month.
  21. Unless I'm reading the tea leaves all wrong, I believe the Twins can call up Gonsalves without burning an option. Paging spycake.
  22. Then it's my opinion he should be on the roster. The team has a few guys they can jettison this offseason (Gibson) and Gonsalves isn't the type of guy you worry about with service time and he's old enough where if options become a problem down the road, then it's likely Stephen Gonsalves is a problem as well so you just move on from him. Gonsalves is just a month and a half younger than Berrios.
  23. Oh, hahah, fair enough. Somehow I missed that entirely. Carry on.
  24. Not to be a grammar snob but it's "toe the line" (personal pet peeve of mine). Anyway, what choice did they have with Jorge? Or are we talking about the old front office? Anyway, the mistake with Polanco was made 6-7 years ago in rookie ball. He would be out of options this season either way. It's such an old mistake it may have even happened during Smith's tenure (I think it did but don't feel like looking it up now). I'm not saying mistakes weren't made, only that the Polanco mistake borders on ancient history.
  25. I don't think anyone is saying their judgment is beyond reproach - after all, I disagree with their rotation decisions and diehard appears to feel the same way - but it's not as if I'm working with anything beyond a stat line. This is one of those situations where I wish the front office would be a little more transparent. Just give us a single sentence about why Colon is starting games for this team in August. Maybe they have a legit reason. Maybe they don't. I'd just like to know a little more about their thought process.
