    I don’t think the Twins fell for anything. One of their head analytics guys was in Tampa last season and watched Morrison firsthand. I’m sure they have WAY more data on the guy than we do and insight into his performance uptick that most teams don’t have. On top of that, it’s just hard to figure out WTF the Rays are doing right now. They’ve let a ton of talent walk away without much in return.

    That's where I wanted to see them land - $125m-ish - so good job, front office. There should still be room for more payroll given this team's revenue but I'll take $125m for now.

    Huh, didn't see this coming but it's a good deal, for sure. I don't know that I would have targeted a LHB DH type but at that price, it's hard to say anything negative.

    I think the Twins managed to swipe Odorizzi for the price they did because no one would agree to the Rays' price for Archer. I think that deal is as good as dead unless a team ponies up a king's ransom for the guy. And I hope that isn't the Twins. I like Archer - I like him a lot - but the Twins gave the Rays quite a bit of salary relief with Odorizzi and I think that only solidifies Tampa's position to hold on to Archer if they can't get the right deal (in other words, a massive prospect haul). The Twins walked away with something of a steal in the Odorizzi trade. Consider yourself lucky and move on.

    While I agree that the new front office has used the Rule V kinda inexplicably, what positive outcome comes from putting Chargois on the 60-day DL? You end up with a guy out of options and no MLB experience at the end of the season. The guy pitched 2.2 innings last season. He had all of 35 innings at AAA the season before that. I understand the frustration over the Rule V decisions, I don't get it either, but I simply don't see a place for Chargois on the 4-man roster in 2018 if he's injured AGAIN.

    Probably not anymore but he had 2-3 good seasons left in him when he was concussed and probably another 1-2 partial seasons afterward.

    I'd pay double for Cobb or Lynn without thinking about it twice (double Garcia's contract would be $16m).

    I wasn't that high on him at the draft but after listening to him speak and hearing about his work ethic, I'm getting a Berrios feel from him.

    I feel the same way but the game threads, maybe more than anything else on this site, are exactly what the community wants them to be. And if the community wants off-topic sillinesss, more power to them.

    He definitely has more value off the 40-man but with his injury situation, his value is so low in the first place that I doubt it matters.

    I think the big stumbling block is Lewis. The Twins have Royce at the top of the board and then a bunch of decent, though somewhat uninspiring, prospects below him. And that probably means when the Twins call for a decent starting pitcher, the opposing front office basically says "Lewis or GTFO".

    You won’t catch any flak for posting “meh”. Sure, we’d like to see more substantive opinions posted on topics but sometimes, “meh” perfectly sums up an opinion.

    As it turns out, I need to start finishing out part of my basement ASAP and I can’t go back to our last contractor, as it was a miserable experience overall. Does anyone have experience with a good, reliable contractor in the area?

    The thing is, the Twins aren’t getting a front of the rotation starter this season and Lynn doesn’t prevent them from pursuing that next offseason. Just swap the Santana and Lynn contracts and the Twins remain payroll neutral from 2018 to 2019 in the rotation, but gain a huge chunk of money from the Mauer contract. And if you get Lynn, your chances of reaching the postseason increase, along with season ticket sales.

    It’s just differing pitcher definitions, I think. I tend to believe a #3 should be solidly above league average whereas a #4 is somewhere around average.

    The Twins can do both. If they sign either Lynn or Cobb and he has a decent season, you essentially swap out that contract for Santana's and rotate in a younger guy in 2019, freeing up more money to spend elsewhere. Given how neither Gonsalves nor Romero are ready to pitch in Minnesota today, the timelines don't really interfere with one another.

    I'm not a huge believer in Mejia either but the guy approached a league average ERA and FIP in his rookie season while fighting a couple of minor injuries. He has modest upside, enough to make me want to see him get another shot at a starting role. I don't think he settles any higher than a #4 or a kinda bad #3 but that's valuable on this team.

    Exactly. The Twins not only have interesting prospects in Gonsalves and Romero but they essentially already signed Pineda to a one year deal for 2019.

    If was running this team, I'd be willing to vastly overpay for a one year contract. Given the prospects in the upper minors and the team's legitimate chance to contend, it makes sense for both parties to go for a one year deal if nothing better surfaces.
