  1. Yikes, this is a bad take. The NFL literally settled a lawsuit Kap filed against them, accusing the league and teams of blackballing him during the prime years of his career. Is losing the prime years of one's career, a profession that only exists on a very short timeline, not a sacrifice to you?
  2. Great post, thank you for contributing.
  3. Now you’re just inventing scenarios that may not exist. There is no reason to demand sacrifice to make a statement, much less create an artificial sacrifice for no real reason.
  4. Again, it’s not an empty gesture when many players have said the point of sitting out games is to redirect attention to real events happening all around us.
  5. This... doesn’t make sense. People have asserted there should be consequences, yet no one has actually said why that’s the case when both players and ownership seem to be on the same page here.
  6. No, it’s not. Several players across various sports have said sitting out is about creating awareness and quieting the sports world so Americans can dedicate their attention to the events surrounding us right now, which is more important than watching men and women hit and throw sports balls. No sacrifice is needed to make that statement. A league imposed artificial sacrifice does the opposite, as it gives the optics of a bunch of rich white owners telling young black and Latino athletes to shut up and entertain us while Rome burns.
  7. Well, that’s what happened so I’m not sure what your argument is here. The players decided to not play, the front office and ownership supported them in that decision, so we’re all good here.
  8. They’re making a public statement. No sacrifice is needed to make a statement. An artificially imposed sacrifice makes no sense and serves literally no one.
  9. What if your boss supported your decision?
  10. Why should there be consequences? Seriously, why? Both teams decided not to play and in the case of the Twins, it appears the players have the support of ownership. Dunno about the Tigers. What benefit to anyone is a team loss because a group of athletes made a peaceful protest for a cause?
  11. So much thinly veiled racism in this thread that I’m embarrassed for the entire state of Minnesota. The thread is locked. If you don’t like the Twins’ decision because you believe players should stay in their place on social issues, Twins Daily is not the site to voice that opinion.
  12. I don’t think he should be considered a dark horse at this point. He was highly regarded as a hitter and posted very good numbers advancing from rookie ball to AA in just two seasons. The big knock on him was that few viewed him as an MLB catcher. His defense is now so good he’s considered the best defensive catcher in the Twins org and scouting of his bat hasn’t really changed. That’s a *really* valuable player. His largest weakness, and it was a big one, has turned into a positive and he plays the most important defensive position on the field.
  13. Hader is an elite arm, better than probably everyone on the Twins staff. And acquiring elite talent should always be a priority... but not anywhere near that price tag. When I said "perfectly content", what I really meant was "happy enough to not loot half the farm for a single reliever, no matter how good he may be".
  14. I think Cave is pretty great as a fourth OF option... except on the Twins because of his LH overlap with both Kepler and Rosario.
  15. I'm all in favor of an electronic zone... IF... they can speed up the system. I haven't read to confirm but I've heard there's a noticeable delay in current systems, like a couple of seconds per pitch. That's too slow over a baseball game that spans 300-ish pitches.
  16. This is my problem with this (IMO lazy) analysis from MLBN. The reason the Twins' bullpen looks weak right now is because most of their rotation crashed and burned to the IL the first week of the season. That means the Twins are running a couple of bullpen games a week. Two bullpen games a week will tax literally any bullpen in baseball. I'm perfectly content with a bullpen of Rogers, Duffey, Romo, May, Clippard, and Alcala. So, you either believe the Twins need to wait until the rotation comes back or, if you believe the rotation will not return, then they need to trade for a starter. Either way, trading so much for a bullpen arm makes little sense unless one holds the very strange opinion that the road to success includes 40% of your games being bullpen games.
  17. I think baseball has changed quite a bit since most of those traded, excepting the Mets, who have a solid track record of being lunatics. That’s way too much to pay for Hader. Besides, is the bullpen even the Twins’ biggest concern right now? I’m more concerned about a RH outfield bat.
  18. That's a completely unreasonable ask because of Jeffers. He's going to rate very highly on upcoming lists.
  19. A couple of months ago, the UK was tracking in similar death numbers proportional to the US given their respective populations. Then the UK started taking it seriously, at least in part because Johnson himself came down with COVID. Now the UK is tracking between 10-20 deaths a day while the US is still averaging around 1,000 deaths a day. Embarrassing. I don’t see how the US comes out the other side of this with fewer than 250,000 deaths. We just passed 180,000.
  20. Sano missed summer camp and not only missed the reps needed to get up to game speed, was basically exiled to his basement instead of being able to do anything. And Sano has a pretty solid track record that shows if he don't get the reps, he ain't gonna hit the ball. Amazingly enough, once he got those reps he missed - 65 PAs is where he bottomed out this season with a .632 OPS - he turned right back into Miguel Sano. Since bottoming out, he has posted: 34 PAs, 1.400 OPS.
  21. Yet amazingly, his hard hit rate and line drive rates are within data noise of previous seasons. And yes, I’ve watched the games. Where Rogers was likely on the receiving end of beneficial luck last season, the pendulum has swung hard the other direction. His BABIP is a full 150-175 points higher than it should be.
  22. Not really. Almost all his advanced metrics say he’s pretty much the same guy as previous years. His contact rate, hard hit, swinging strike, etc are virtually the same as last year. The key difference is that he’s sporting an absurd BABIP of almost .450 in 2020. He’ll be fine.
  23. A well written article on this from a Reds website. http://redscontentplus.com/2020/08/one-of-the-bigotry-capitals-of-the-world/
  24. I’ve been asking this question since the first week of the season.
