    Oh boy, I disagree. I didn't buy a Twins hat for years because I so hated the M logo. When they started reintroducing the TC logo around 2001 or so, I was soooooo happy.

    He didn't say team, he said player. And wins-losses is a terrible statistic to use in player evaluation.

    Not a bad idea, particularly if the Twins don't think he can catch (and given how they've worked him, they don't seem to think he can catch). Now that I think about it more, it's not a bad idea either way. Josmil's floor is way higher than Herrmann, as is his ceiling.

    In the context of my "80 win team", I meant the previous year. So, the earliest the Twins could be an "80 win team" is October of 2015 - provided they win 80 games - and then make the corresponding moves to contend the following offseason. With that said, if they pick up a free agent or two and the Twins spring into contention next July, then I'm all for trading a piece or two - nothing major - to make a push for the playoffs. But now, after coming off a 71-74 win season? Nah. Too many variables, too many players that will need to step up to fill the 20-win gap to the playoffs as a legitimate contender.

    Yep. Sustained success comes through a solid foundation. Signing free agents does not build a solid foundation. Trading prospects for veterans does not build a solid foundation. Both should be used as complementary pieces for an already-solid foundation of young MLB talent from the farm.

    I said nothing about acquiring free agents to make the team better, only that it's a mistake to give away internal pieces in the middle of a rebuild process. If the money and need is there, go find a decent free agent. I absolutely believe that's a good idea. I simply don't believe the Twins are currently in the position to trade away farm pieces they might need in 2016 if something goes wrong with their current batch of upper-minors prospects (not to mention that trading a prospect during 2016 might not push them into the 88 win territory but instead the 92 win territory). If the Twins find themselves in contention, a mid-season trade can always happen in June or July.

    Now is not the time to trade prospects. It might take Buxton or Sano 1-2 years to get up to speed. One of them might fail. One of them might get injured. You trade prospects when you're an 80 win team pushing for the playoffs, not when you're a 73 win team trying to get its feet back under itself. Any veterans traded for today might be gone and/or ineffective by the time the Twins are ready to compete. It's a mistake to give up prospects you might need later when there are still so many question marks in the near future.

    I'd go for two fixes: 1. A stop-gap CF option. Pick up a vet who can hold a bat without embarrassing himself with the expectation that either Hicks or Buxton will later take the job. Do all you can to move Santana to short. 2. A more long-term fix for LF or RF. Maybe not Melky but someone who is competent out there. By mid-season, that could be a pretty good lineup if Sano slides Plouffe into a utility role and platoon and Buxton/Santana slide into CF/SS and Escobar becomes a roving bench guy. At this point, I don't care what happens to the likes of Nunez, Parmelee, and their ilk. They're fine as bench guys until something better comes along.

    That's basically an All-Star corner outfielder from a platoon. I like the idea of Arcia getting ABs against lefties but should he fail, this would be a great fall-back option.

    At some point, Hicks is going to need to get another shot at MLB. Personally, I'd like to see Santana start making the transition back to short as soon as possible because he's not going to stay in center. One or all of Hicks, Rosario, and Buxton are better suited to the position.

    As would any other GM, which drops his trade value to the point that it's not worth moving him. If Escobar repeats his 2014 and the Twins cement Santana at short, then maybe it makes sense to move him. Right now, it's taking a pretty big risk to trade the guy and rely solely on Santana going forward.

    I like to poke in and remind everyone of this little thing called "observational bias" every now and again.

    Reality is far more complicated than that. 11 HR total. 4 HR in tie games. 6 HR in games within 1 run. 7 HR in games within 2 runs.

    Massively improve? No. But should we expect improvement from a 23 year old player as he approaches his prime seasons? Absolutely.

    Expect that they don't. Joe Mauer 2014 bases empty: .697 OPS. Joe Mauer 2014 RISP: .796 OPS. Yes, a lot of that is OBP driven (his OBP is a whopping .400 with RISP) but his slugging is also marginally higher with RISP (.015). What can we learn from this? That RISP is pretty much a useless statistic on which to base a player's worth, as it fluctuates wildly from season to season due to SSS. Joe Mauer spent the bulk of his career hitting marginally better with RISP, just as most players do (because RISP appearances tend to come against worse pitchers who are hit more easily). He didn't suddenly "forget" how to hit with RISP after a decade in the league. It's a meaningless statistic. Joe Mauer has been a pretty bad hitter this season. That's his problem, not RISP.

    Spacing issues are easy: read this blog primer, particularly the section about pasting rich content. As for tables, that is on my list of things to add in the future. I was surprised they weren't in there by default and adding them is a bit tricky, as they require loads of BBCode settings that I need to research.

    I bashed Moore a bunch for trading for Shields. Honestly, I still think it was a mistake because they could have done the same thing this offseason for Price. But part of me has to root for the Royals, if only for the fans who have suffered for so long. I still want Oakland to win a ring for Beane but an ALCS of Oakland/KC sure wouldn't make me angry... but MLB would probably have a fit.
