  1. Kirby Puckett career WAR (as you said, started his career at age 24): 50 WAR Mike Trout career WAR through his age 22 season: 28 WAR
  2. We sometimes overlook the fact that we don't know these kids while Ryan & Co know them quite well (or at least their MiLB coaches know them and pass information to Ryan & Co). Meyer didn't get promoted but Polanco and Santana did last season. Rosario has been mentioned as a possible CF candidate in 2015. There's a lot more to these guys than a stat line and that factors into promotion schedules. That doesn't automatically mean Ryan & Co. are right - obviously, they were very wrong with Hicks - but it does mean they're privy to information we do not have. To us, Rosario seems a bit aloof and out of touch. Not unlike Aaron Hicks, really... But maybe he's entirely different in person. The Twins get to see that difference while we may not.
  3. Polanco isn't too valuable to give up but I'd hesitate to give him up for a two month rental. Then again, it all depends on how Polanco does this season. His stock could continue to rise or it could flatten.
  4. At some point, opposing GMs are going to stop letting themselves get hosed by Dombroski, right? The Tigers shouldn't have gotten away with a few of those trades but hey, good for them that they were able to pull it off. I still can't believe they managed to offload that Fielder contract.
  5. It's not about trying to hit for more power, it's about growing into one's body and swing. If Rosario wants to stick at a corner OF position, he's going to have to be either an OBP machine or he has to hit for power. Rosario is not an OBP machine.
  6. The deeper we get into this offseason, the more I share this sentiment. Early on, I thought the Tigers were easily the best team but after looking over that roster a few times, I'm no longer convinced they're very good and suspect they could get really bad in a hurry.
  7. Lovely blog entry, PFH. Just lovely.
  8. That's not really fair. I think it's unquestionable that I'm a pretty huge Twins fan and this is the first package I've even considered due to my personal time constraints. I work pretty much every week night; weekends are the only games that really appeal to me despite me living just four miles from Target Field.
  9. I agree but the pitch clock wouldn't be a real imposition on the players. It would simply be a visual representation of the rules already on the books. If anything, the players should appreciate the clarification.
  10. Something more interesting*, I'm sure. *literally anything
  11. Baseball made it 100 years without the 7th inning salute and no one questioned the sport's integrity and/or patriotism. It's time for the salute to go away and make baseball games about baseball, not faux patriotism.
  12. Agreed. Ultimately, one or two teams will separate a bit but it wouldn't surprise me one bit if 88-89 wins takes this division with several teams vying for the title.
  13. I just don't see that happening. The Tribe look decent on paper but there are a few regression candidates on that roster. If everything goes right, I could see them winning 90-95 games. If luck neutral, I think they're an 80-85 win team like most of the rest of the Central. Obviously, one or two of the Central teams will be better than that while others might falter, just grading the teams on paper.
  14. Joe looks seriously ripped in that photo. Did he step up his offseason routine or is it just the shirt?
  15. I read this as "genital intimidation" and thoroughly enjoyed the post. Two thumbs up.
  16. BTW, minor new feature added, everybody. Do you like a particular user blog and want to receive notifications when it updates? Just go to that user blog page and at the top of the page near the blog title - remember, this is the blog itself, not specific entries - you'll see a "Follow this Blog" button. Click that and you'll be notified every time the blog updates.
  17. Definitely. Some might consider it mandatory.
  18. Yeah, I don't put much stock in his starting numbers with MoB. Relief is an entirely different role and with the increased velocity (hopefully, anyway) and increased aggression (hit this fastball, I dare you, hit this fastball, I dare you) from the bullpen, he could profile as a very different pitcher in a few months. I don't care much where Pelfrey ends up, I only hope the Twins do what's best for the team in 2015.
  19. If you have suggestions on which threads to highlight each week, shoot me a message or email me at brock@twindaily.com by Thursday evening and I’ll add it to the following day’s article. If you’re not familiar with how MinnCentric sites operate, we use a universal login system. Let’s get into this week’s action… Michael Beller from SI.com takes a look at Brian Dozier’s last two seasons and asks the question “is he due to regress?” Always a conversation-starter on the Twins Daily forums, this thread sparked a lively debate about Dozier and his ability to maintain 2014’s performance level. Dozier: A Candidate for Regression? Nick Nelson posted the top 11-15 prospects in the Twins system - many of which would be top five or ten prospects in other systems - and debate raged over the order of the list. Where would you put Lewis Thorpe, the left-handed teenager with shoulder questions? Twins Top Prospects: 11-15 Twins Daily member Halsey Hall has been moseying around sunny Ft Myers, enjoying above-freezing temperatures while keeping us updated on the happenings at Hammond Stadium, including its renovation. No one likes Halsey Hall. Hammond Happenings Fellow Twins site Twinkie Town interviewed the Twins Assistant General Manager, Rob Antony. When the front office is involved, expect “lively” debate on the merits of everything from the acquisition of Ervin Santana to statements that removing the trees was a mistake to suggesting that the front office should be replaced by concessionaires. Twinkie Town Interview with Rob Antony In Wild News: Last night was a good night and it couldn't have gone better for the Wild had they scripted it themselves. Surrounded in the standings by Dallas, Vancouver, Colorado, and Los Angeles, all four teams played last night and lost in regulation. Catch up with the events of last night on our forum! Scoreboard Watch In Vikings News: What should the Vikings do this offseason? Do they shore up the offensive line and then call it a day or are there upgrades to be found on defense? 20. Actually, we're working on a new front page that might do exactly that. One of my goals is to raise the blog section's prominence on the front page. I haven't really cracked that nut yet but I'm working on it. IMO, the sidebar system works okay toward the top of the screen but it has limitations as you scroll down the page. I think we can create a better layout and we're working on it.
  21. Sure, but there's also a new manager and we have no idea how he views the rotation. I find it really unlikely that Molitor is going to come out of the gates with a good ol' boy attitude about the roster. If anything, I think he'll put too much stock in ST performance because he's going to feel obligated to field the best team possible out of the gate. I think we all fall into the rut of assuming that the team will be managed similarly because Gardenhire was around for so long (as long as many here have been Twins fans).... I know I find myself constantly checking built-in assumptions about the roster before I remember that Ron Gardenhire is no longer the manager. We have no idea what Molitor is going to do.
  22. Ouch. Too bad for Vic but them's the breaks of signing 36 year old players to four year deals.
  23. I don't put much stock in defensive catcher WAR; there are too many variables that aren't accounted for in catching. The most generous scouting reports I remember seeing on Martinez called him a mediocre defensive catcher. The least generous said he was awful. Scouting reports on Mauer almost universally praised his work behind the plate. I haven't looked into his pitch framing stats so I don't recall if he was any good at that.
  24. Ah, got it. Nothing to see here. Carry on, carry on.
