    Interestingly, the Twins played both sides of that coin this offseason. They traded for Murphy, which *may* have been an overpay. But that's still very much up in the air. But they also traded Herrmann for Palka and made Arizona overpay for a (bad) catcher. And then they let Fryer go for nothing. And then they went and picked up Hicks for nothing. This team confuses the hell out of me.

    Whenever the value of something rises, the value of something else diminishes. If MLB salaries aren't a zero sum game, they're something close to it. If the price of relievers spirals out of control, go find the market that is undervalued and get your performance value from that part of the roster.

    I agree the comparison doesn't really work. The two teams could end up at the same point if Meyer/May dominate but that doesn't mean the path taken is the same.

    Not nit-picking your argument but the Royals are actually rather mediocre when it comes to OBP. If they're emphasizing getting on base, they're doing a rather bad job of it.

    No, I don't think anyone forgot his struggles last season but many of us remember how he flat-out dominated AAA the year before. For whatever reason, he stumbled last season. Well, he hasn't stumbled this season... And given how he has logged ~240 innings in Rochester and is 26 years old, it's not the worst idea in the world to give him a shot and see what happens. After all, the Twins are currently 7-14. If they want to compete this season, they're going to need something more than mediocrity... And Meyer, while a bit of an enigma, is certainly capable of "more than mediocrity". Inversely, he's also capable of being absolutely terrible. But that's a roll of the dice I'm willing to take. Meyer could be worth 2-3 wins more than Milone all by himself.

    Lots of knee-jerk stuff happening over the past few months, hard to argue with that... But overall, I haven't had a big problem with how the Twins handled Meyer. He was flat-out awful last year and going to the pen was probably the right call, as was putting him back in the rotation to start the season. As for the current situation, I'll give it a week or two before drawing a conclusion. If the Twins let Meyer rot on the bench, that's... just illogical. If they give him a significant bullpen role, I won't like it much but I'll understand the thinking behind it. If they find a way to get him into the rotation, I'll be a big fan of the move.

    Twins Daily is going to get whiplash if people keep jumping on and off the Meyer bandwagon with such vigor. But I agree that he should get another chance to start. I don't really understand anything that's happening this season. It all seems so haphazard.

    Stuart's start is promising but he's not the type of guy you rush to the majors... You let that guy simmer and see if he's for real, then you promote and cross your fingers.

    Actually, Garza struggled for nine starts in his rookie season and then went on to post a solid half-season the following year. Then he was traded.

    It wasn't necessarily a *bad* move but it was certainly questionable. Mauer has a higher chance of moderate success in that situation (walk, single) but Sano has the higher chance of "you just lost the game because I hit the ball 600 feet" success. It was a dicey move to pitch to either guy but I would have probably taken my chances with Mauer driving in a run or two over Sano possibly driving in 3-4 runs (can't remember if the bases were juiced or whether two guys were on base).

    Sano has a higher OPS than Mauer over the past 14 days but okay.

    You can't repromote a player for 14 days... Though there may be an injury exception, I can't recall.

    That's the direction I'm leaning as well. I hoped Milone would be offloaded last winter but oh well, that didn't happen.

    Is Milone out of options? I think he is but with so many Twins players out of options this season, I lost track.

    How is using your best relievers in a tie game at home bad managing? That's not only common practice, it's common sense. Get the outs, try to win in the bottom of the inning. At home, you work the pen backwards from the ninth inning onward.

    If Joe wins another batting title, he's a lock. If Joe has 2-3 more .300 batting average seasons, he's a lock. Right now, he's a maybe.

    Kohl Stewart pitched 129 innings last season. At his current rate, he's going to pass last season's strikeout total at the 50 inning mark.

    The Twins are really good at putting pressure on Brewer pitching. Unfortunately, it seems to stop there.
