  1. Well, I can live with one run. Hopefully he settles and stops throwing so high in the zone.
  2. What's the over/under on how many innings of this game I'm going to watch? 2?
  3. And Liam walks the first batter. And now a wild pitch. Aw, come on...
  4. Thanks for reading and visiting! We're trying to fill a niche here (an undeveloped one, odd as that is) and I think we're well on our way to doing it.
  5. That has been the policy. We can throw it in there for good measure but I doubt spammers really care about forum rules.
  6. I don't foresee a world where we get too upset about something getting frustrated in a game thread and posting "Jeff Gray is garbage". Technically, it is against the rules. It's also a heat of the moment game thread written by a frustrated poster after Gray just gave himself whiplash watching a pitch go over the wall. As with most things, keep it in reason. Everybody gets mad and posts stupid crap. It happens. But most posters filter those posts in between dozens of worthwhile posts that are much calmer and rational. We're all fans here. We understand the pain of watching Jeff Gray take the mound. Although I would say that we could say that "Jeff Gray is pitching like crap... again!!" and that would be just fine... By all accounts, Gray is a tremendous person, a great teammate, and obviously a pretty good pitcher - in context - so to call him 'garbage' is just unnecessary. Agreed, all attempts should be made to word it without insulting the player. I'm only mentioning that situation because people get riled up and post dumb crap all the time. I do it. Most others do it as well. As with everything else, we're going to approach this with a level head. I don't want posters to be concerned that they'll Get The Ban if they step out of line in the slightest bit. In most cases, a polite warning will be PMed to them before any banning action is taken.
  7. Mauerzy, I'll just respond this way without quotes. It's easier. 3. We're not going to clamp down on misspellings or limited use of abbreviations. This rule will probably be used very rarely and only for spam-like posters whose entries generally consist of "lolz", "ur bad @ beisbol" and nonsense of that sort. It hasn't been a problem at all but we're throwing it in there for good measure. 4. Feel free to use as many links and quotes as your lil old heart desires. 5. If you're tired of a poster's ranting, feel free to PM a moderator/admin about it or attack the point he/she is trying to make. You can even mention that you're tired of hearing his/her tripe, just be sure to add significant content to your post beyond that short sentence. We're trying to cut down on comments such as "dumb post" or "read this already, lame". They have no place on the board. 6. We're sticking to something close to a prime time television rule. If it can't be said on network television, reconsider saying it. The same applies to photos and imagery. 7. Moderators and admins will be deciding what is appropriate or not. Generally, we're forgiving folk. Very few people will receive a ban of any kind without ample warning and if you feel the warning is unjust, all of us will deliberate over the "offense".
  8. We try to do our best to catch things immediately but it doesn't always happen that way. We encourage people to use the report post function if they see something worth reporting. It helps us find things faster. On a forum that keeps growing and gets hundreds of posts every day, it's impossible to keep track of them all.

  10. Typing a swear word is no big deal. The filter will pick it up. We're talking more about using clever lettering to avoid the word censor, like an "@" instead of an "a". The easiest way to tell if we deem something to be a swear word is to use it (within reason, of course). If we don't think it's board appropriate, it will appear ****ed out. If it appears, we're cool with it. But please, don't post anything that looks like "you **** stupid ***** ****face". Good question. That is something we will discuss. Fair enough. It's the same thing, just worded more politely.
  11. Victor Conte's recent well-timed comments gaining more and more credibility... http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=8289843 From what I understand of the testing, it's a joke compared to some of the tests used by other sports and in particular, the IOC.
  12. Have to add Berrios in with Buxton. Past that, I honestly don't have much of an opinion. I don't like the idea of drafting college relievers but I'll withhold judgment for now.
  13. You win in the thread title department.
  14. Twins: Ben Revere CF Alexi Casilla 2B Joe Mauer 1B Josh Willingham LF Ryan Doumit DH Matt Carson RF Trevor Plouffe 3B Drew Butera C Pedro Florimon SS (Liam Hendriks P) Billy Beanes: Coco Crisp CF Stephen Drew SS Josh Reddick RF Yoenis Cespedes LF Chris Carter 1B Seth Smith DH Josh Donaldson 3B George Kottaras C Cliff Pennington 2B (Tommy Milone P)
  15. You moved the meeting three miles further away from me. Unacceptable. But I'm still probably going to make it.
  16. Maybe I could have phrased it like "Plouffe's aerophobia became uncontrollable" but now we're nitpicking. Royce White's aerophobia has been well documented and he's still "wasting his time" pursuing an NBA career. Simple, if a guy has a phobia of flying, you pay him less money based on performance and ability to play. You also try to find medication and/or therapy to relieve the situation. I still don't see why you publicly rip the guy for having that phobia. What good is that going to do? Are you going to shame the guy into getting over his irrational fears? You realize how a phobia and mental illness in general works, right?
  17. Or maybe the MRI machine had electrophobia.
  18. It's a lost season and Diamond has never thrown this many innings in a season. At this point, why push the guy? The team badly needs him for 2013 and he's the only solid point in a rotation in chaos.
  19. I have a near-crippling fear of heights. I get dizzy, lose my balance, and a host of other things that scare the hell out of me. Do I know this is not a rational response? Absolutely. Does that change anything? Absolutely not. I've done over 180MPH on a motorcycle, raced cars at over 150MPH. Didn't scare me a lick. But put me on a three story roof and I lose my freakin' mind. Explain that to me.
  20. $14m isn't significant because the Twins already have enough money for a Jackson/Sanchez/whatever type pitcher. In the same offseason, they're not going to dedicate $30m+ a year for 3-5 years to pick up two of those guys. It's not a smart move to make in this type of situation. They have the money they need to improve the pitching staff. More money isn't going to help much because they won't spend it anyway (nor should they). It's not a sure thing that they'll get a prospect for Justin but right now, his value is on the rise from being virtually nil last offseason. If he stays healthy, the Twins are looking at a half season of an .850+ OPS player and then a prospect for him at the deadline. The Tigers gave up a fair amount for Sanchez/Infante. The market is there if you think outside the box a little. Next July, the Twins could be looking at a solid return if they bundle, say, Morneau and Perkins into a deal.
  21. The team has plenty of money to pick up pitching this offseason. Morneau doesn't change that significantly. It's not as if the Twins are going to throw half of their payroll at two top-shelf starters in the offseason no matter how much money they had to spend. It's a bad long-term decision for the franchise. On the other hand, getting a quality pitching prospect for Justin next July does significantly change the future of this organization.
  22. Not an optimist so much as a realist. Finding good people to run a billion dollar enterprise is no easy task. Is JR the right guy? Dunno, but he has the experience and the track record to make it work. Do I wish he was moving more quickly on some of these issues? Definitely. Do I really know what's going on behind the scenes right now? Absolutely not. As I've been saying all along, Ryan hasn't been back at the helm for even a year yet. This organization had hundreds of important issues to deal with in that time. If he's still standing pat in February on glaring organizational issues, I'll be the first in line to say he needs to go. But I'm not going to call him a failure before he's even had a chance to do his job. Turning around an organization with hundreds of moving parts is not a two month operation.
  23. The thought of Pavano returning to this team makes me want to cry. That is all.
  24. I think it's a pretty reasonable expectation for a professional athlete to get the necessary diagnostics done on an injury. Athletes can disagree with their team about the course of treatment, not about getting diagnostic work done when said player has been wasting a spot on the roster for a week. Span is not dangling from the top of the IDS Center washing windows or being asked to climb into a box full of snakes. He's being asked to have a very common, safe test done to determine if the Twins should continue to waste another bench spot. What if Plouffe wakes up tomorrow and has a newly manifested aerophobia? I guess we should pat him on the back and say "It's ok, big guy. You can just play the home games.". It's not a matter of just "bucking up" and getting through it. Phobias are real mental issues based on an irrational fear of something. Span has had countless MRIs in the past yet we've never heard of this happening so I'm not going to chalk this up to "not trying" or just "not wanting to do something". He apparently tried to calm himself down and it didn't work. I'm not going to fault the guy for that.
  25. Smith should definitely not take all the blame here. IMO, he did a decent job with drafting and an excellent job with the international market (outside of Nishi). Many of the failures we're seeing today were from the mid-2000s when JR was at the helm. There's no denying that or shifting around responsibility for those mistakes, but I think Smith sped things along a bit with his bungling of the Major League franchise at almost every opportunity. The question is "Has Ryan learned from his previous mistakes?" I certainly hope so and I think it's worth finding out if he did learn anything. Teams rarely pick up a new GM and start winning right off the bat. Ryan has the experience and ability to build a winning team, now it's just a matter of time to see if he can do it again. Thus far, I haven't been displeased with how things have played out in many respects but the real test will be this offseason when he has all the time he needs to put the franchise back on track.
