  1. Yikes, I didn't even read that lineup when I posted it. Yikes.
  2. I find it mildly amusing that someone reported this post. I assume it's because the post was pro-Butera. Please don't do that, guys... Even if it does make me laugh.
  3. Twins: Ben Revere CF Darin Mastroianni RF Joe Mauer C Justin Morneau 1B Ryan Doumit LF Trevor Plouffe DH Jamey Carroll 3B Alexi Casilla 2B Pedro Florimon SS ( Samuel Deduno P) Rangers: Ian Kinsler 2B Elvis Andrus SS Josh Hamilton DH Adrian Beltre 3B Nelson Cruz RF David Murphy LF Mitch Moreland 1B Luis Martinez C Craig Gentry CF (Matt Harrison P)
  4. And I have zero problems with that. I'd like to see Butera off the roster (just like everybody else) but I don't see it as a pressing concern at this point.
  5. I don't see what the big deal is when Doumit and Mauer are both in the lineup every day playing C, 1B, DH, or OF. Butera barely gets any playing time and if his presence makes Gardy feel a little better about running both Joe and Ryan onto the field every night, so be it. Matt Carson swapping places with Drew Butera changes little, if anything. And at this point, I wouldn't even mind seeing the Son of Sal get more time behind the dish. No point in wearing out two of your better hitters in a lost season.
  6. Adam Dunn was 30 years old when he hit free agency and, up to that point, was pretty much a lock for 500 PAs, a .260 average, a .400 OBP, and 35-40 home runs.
  7. With Span back, there's no need for Carson. With that said, where the **** is Anthony Slama? This is getting ridiculous.
  8. A lot of teams passed on Trout. It happens. A lot of people passed on Berrios and he's tearing it up. Not that I'm comparing Trout to Berrios, just pointing out that sometimes guys fall through the cracks.
  9. With the new CBA rules mandating caps on international signings and the draft, I expect to see a shift where teams eat the salary of players like Morneau more readily just so they can get quality prospects in return. With those new caps on spending, it's not as if the Twins could take that $7m and use it in the draft or to pick up another Sano-type player. So it makes sense that they will start paying existing player salaries to bolster their farm system.
  10. I'm not going to fault Plouffe for screwing up at third. He hasn't had much time there and third base is probably the most unique position on the field outside of catcher. It's all about reaction time and that takes some adjustment.
  11. We're not entirely against removing the ad if the users overwhelmingly hate it but it's going to stick around for awhile so we can gauge how it performs. Remember that ads are what keep this site in operation. Without them, this site wouldn't exist.
  12. I would only consider bringing back Morneau if you could get him for two years and considerably less than $10m per year. With Parmelee in the wings, there's no reason to dump a ton of money into the guy. If he wants more, just trade him.
  13. Sorry, we're not going back to a liquid layout. There are far too many downsides to designing a site based around percentages (which is why the screen would stretch in the old version). If you look around the internet, there are very few "professional" sites that use a liquid design and there's a reason for that. It's impossible to properly control how your content is displayed and make it look good on every device known to man. On top of that, I just don't have the time to continue updating and maintaining two themes instead of one. It's twice the work (more actually, due to how difficult it is to make things look good in a liquid design). I completely understand what you're saying, though. I use a 2550 resolution monitor, which is basically the highest res monitor you can buy for consumer use.
  14. We're going to be working on optimizing how the ads are handled. Thanks for the feedback, it's definitely something we're concerned about.
  15. Interesting. I've tested the theme in Firefox from the beginning and I've never seen this error. Looking at the code, I assume you're seeing it in the forums. What version of FF are you using? I've been testing under ver. 14.0 (the latest FF).
  16. The thing that bothers me about comments like Gladden's is that they don't look at what is best for the team a lot of times. If a guy is mildly injured, there's a chance he "toughs it out" and takes the field for two months, hitting 100 or more points below his typical OPS and struggling in the field. If he would have sat for 15 days and let it heal, he could have been on the field again (at full strength) in less than three weeks. At some point, it needs to become an argument of "How much of a loss will the team suffer with a replacement player in the short term versus a struggling star player over the long term?" "Toughing it out and playing" is often more damaging to the team than just DLing the player for a few weeks.
  17. Did they have a comfy lead in June and July? I thought things were a little tighter then. I don't really remember, though. I don't think anyone has pressured them in quite some time but admittedly, I don't follow the NL East on a daily basis. I'm sure Ben knows. He's a Braves fan.
  18. If he puts up a 2013 line of .850 OPS and stays healthy, I think he'll get somewhere between $25-30m over three years. If he drops closer to an .800 OPS like he has now, I think he'll get Josh Willingham money.
  19. Why on earth would you play Carson in front of Parmelee?
  20. As I mentioned to Nick last night, I wonder if the front office was hesitant to DL Span because they want to trade him this offseason. A few days missed with no DL stint looks better than hitting the 15 day DL.
  21. Well, it depends. If your blog is promoted to the front page, it will certainly garner more interest than a forum post would... Articles generally have 1,000-3,000 reads before they rotate off the front page and go into the archives. You definitely won't get that with a forum thread. As a blog, it's hard to say how many comments you'll get... I was looking last night and several of the blogs had healthy conversations going in them. All in all, we want to improve in this department. But given each of our individual workloads, it's not something that's going to happen overnight.

  23. It would have been tricky to figure out but it's not as if the Nationals are in the middle of a pennant race. They have a comfy lead on the Braves and could have sat Strasburg through the entirety of July and some of June if they wanted to do it.
  24. Over the past few weeks, we've been working to improve the Twins Daily experience as the baseball season winds down and we all look forward to the offseason. We liked the original look of Twins Daily but the full width layout that resizes to each user's browser was something we wanted to change about the site. With a full-width layout, it's hard (or impossible) to present a polished experience for every user on every browser. [PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]Another thing we wanted to do is present the news as clearly and efficiently as possible. That mean the removal of some of the superfluous icons, avatars, and imagery that littered the old design. You'll notice this most on the left sidebar, which has been redesigned to only present the most relevant information to the user. We think it delivers a cleaner, easier to navigate site for all of you. Most of the information can be found in the same places and this redesign is more of a refinement than an all-new site. A new feature is share buttons in each article. We've had a Facebook share button for quite awhile but now you'll see a Twitter and Google+ icon at the top of each article as well. If you like an article you read on TD, just click one of those buttons to share it with the world (or at least your world). We've also added a few small-ish things here and there, such as a Picture of the Week category on the main forum page. The category pages (and main page as well) have pagination links as well. Instead of articles dropping off the face of the earth after leaving the first page, you can now go back into the archives page-by-page. Don't ask me why that wasn't there in the first place, but it wasn't. Twins Daily was started because Parker, Seth, John, and Nick felt there was a lack of quality Twins coverage. This redesign is merely a refinement of that idea and we welcome any further ideas that you, the community members, have on how to improve your time with us. If you see something you like, something you don't, or want to talk about things you'd like to see on the site, be sure to let us know. Oh, and if you haven't noticed it already, Jeremy Nygaard has been working on a fantastic spreadsheet that tracks the rosters and transactions for the entire Twins organization (yes, the entire Twins organization). It's crazy-detailed and I suggest you take a look at it if you haven't already done so.
