  1. I love me some Piazza but he wasn't even the best catcher of his generation (but he was one of the best hitters). Pudge holds that title easily, IMO. He's a higher WAR player and despite that metric's inability to capture the catcher's position, Ivan was a much better player. When it comes to catchers, you basically have Pudge, Yogi, and Johnny.
  2. I'm going to go ahead and take a giant leap about you and say that you haven't followed a race series in your life, Pseudo. If you like racing, the "atmosphere" is there no matter what you're watching. That's what racing is all about, actually. I don't get NASCAR. One of the most damning things I know about NASCAR is that most of its fans don't watch ANY other kind of racing at all. To me, closely following NASCAR is like watching the RBI race in baseball. To people smarter than a turnip, it just doesn't matter because there's so much more interesting material out there.
  3. Make this a blog. Really, we'd love to see it. It's one of the most interesting points for the Twins moving into 2013. Personally, as (I believe it was Thyrlos) pointed out, the Twins have been paying Morneau $14m to be a 1 WAR player. I think he'll finish this season well above that (maybe a 1.5 WAR) player but that's still a hell of a lot of money when you have a first baseman in AAA posting an OPS of 1.115. I see it like this: You let Justin play. If he's truly back, you have a HUGE trade chip starting in May. You fit Chris into the lineup everywhere and anywhere you can and let him play as much in Minnesota as possible. If, in June of 2013, you are in a position of strength to trade, you do it. Let Chris fail or succeed on the ML level and then you treat Justin appropriately. Of course, much of this depends on trading Span to clear room in the OF so Chris can get ML ABs.
  4. I have to admit that when I read the title, I didn't think of Howard Sinker. I saw "Sinker: Time for Twins to Experiment" and thought "WTF? Haven't they been preaching 'sink' and 'pitch to contact' for years?"
  5. I understand and mostly agree with your point but the Royals aren't getting any better. At this point, they should be getting better but they aren't. The Pirates have made a bunch of savvy moves on every level in recent years. They haven't been in "dump everything" mode in quite some time and are now seeing dividends. The Royals, on the other hand... Could they be good next season? Sure. Is it likely? No. It's easy to dump players for prospects. But in the case of a team like the Royals, they need to start acting like a real Major League franchise and they have yet to do it. It's hard to build an entire team on the backs of a bunch of prospects (who fail and/or get injured in the minors) and I don't fault the Twins for not laying down and playing possum. They have a nucleus and they have money. I'm all for dishing off some of that nucleus for MiLB players but let's not ignore this team and its upside. Given this division, there's no reason why they can't compete in 2013 or 2014, looking at their farm and the upside they have in the trade market. The two top teams in the division are on the decline and the two other teams are not showing as much promise as they once hoped.
  6. I love what Trout is doing but nobody can be both Williams and Henderson. You can't hit for that high a BA and still hit that many 2B/3B/HR and steal that many bases. At some point, all those things start to conflict with one another. Rickey Henderson was able to steal that many bases because he didn't have a great BA but had decent power. He had a fantastic OBP, though... All those times being walked to first helped him steal a veritable crap-ton of bases at second. If he would have had Williams' BA, more of those appearances would have been on second, third, or homers... A much more difficult way to get a stolen base. (by the way, you've now touched on one of my other favorite players... I think Henderson deserves top ten all-time status but rarely gets a mention, the dude was a straight-up menace in so many ways)
  7. I think the two are very different. Parmelee has crushed the ball every time he's had regular time in the lineup since September of last year. He needs to be in the Minnesota lineup. On the other side of the coin, Hendriks failed miserably during his time in Minnesota. I think he was sent down for a very specific reason to prepare him for a ML rotation in 2013. I don't think the organization is down on him, I think the org is high on him but needs to see some changes before he heads back to the Twin Cities. Basically, right now I can argue why the Twins don't have Hendriks starting every fifth day. I can't make the same argument why Parmelee isn't starting 4-5 times a week.
  8. How dare you compare Trout to the Splendid Splinter? I'm hissing at you. (I'm a huge Williams fan... Think he's the greatest baseball player of all time.)
  9. Hell, most of the Twins fanbase didn't speculate much on Diamond. He's one of the guys who is proving the SABR guys wrong with every start. I still don't think it's sustainable but I enjoy being wrong in situations like this one...
  10. Yeah, that NL class was ridiculous. I think it will be criminal if Diamond doesn't make the top five. He probably deserves the second spot behind Trout and he certainly isn't lower than three.
  11. It probably had something to do with the PHP and Javascript code I added that alerted me every time you were online and changed all your posts to "herp derp penis face herp derp". What happened is that your post was added to the moderation queue. It could have been accidental on your part or an accidental click by any random user... Or maybe somebody just hates you.
  12. I was concerned about the rotation (and pen, actually) quite a bit. I thought the offense would rebound (not quite to this extent but a rebound). I thought the Willingham signing was fantastic but I really wanted another starter. Of course, everything ended up hinging on Baker and Pavano, both of which failed miserably. Hell, if those two guys stayed healthy, this team might be on the fringe of contention.
  13. You probably did something bad. With that said, I have no idea why your post isn't viewable. I'll look into it.
  14. I will never understand NASCAR, even the road races (which are infinitely better than oval races). Give me F1, MotoGP, or any other number of races that feature vehicles that are pure cutting edge tech without the ridiculous weight restrictions. How it became the most popular form of racing in this country, I will never understand. There is so much out there that is more interesting.
  15. Chris Parmelee is 24 years old and has a 1.146 OPS in Rochester. Yes, a 1.146 OPS. "C" players do not OPS over 1.100 in AAA.
  16. Okay, you're done. Take a week off the forum. In no way did I "personally insult" you. I warned you politely multiple times and you. just. don't. get. it. To be clear for the final time, it does not matter what another poster has or has not done to you (or in this case, Mitt Romney). If you have a problem with a post, you report it and let the moderator staff at TD handle the situation. You do not start a flame war, you do not insult the poster (especially when the original "insult" was specious at best and definitely not directed at you personally) and you do not continue arguing with a moderator after being warned.
  17. when you call mitt romney immoral for giving to charity your calling me immoral, and i'm going to take that personally. You got that? Or is that to difficult to understand in the era of andrea mitchell and msnbc? It does not give you license to insult another poster. Period. End of discussion. Have I made myself clear enough yet?
  18. Great first post and welcome to the site. As for #6, I'm going to drink until I convince myself that this is the reason for the Twins' season. Thank you for contributing to my alcoholism.
  19. As far as I know, that's where it came from. Those chapter titles were hilarious.
  20. Does anybody have the link to that fake book by Gardenhire? I need a laugh and couldn't find it when I looked for it a month or two ago.
  21. Perhaps you should just stop blindly copying and pasting **** left and right then? Don't make me slap you, Nancy.
  22. That's the second time my source has put two catchers in the lineup. Strange.
  23. Oh man, so close. Eight out of nine ain't bad.
