  1. What Seth said. I think they'll re-evaluate when he hits 200 and go from there. Diamond isn't that young and the Twins don't need to worry about him that much. On the flipside, there's no point in burning out your only decent starter in a lost September.
  2. I'd leave Hendriks off that list for now. I think it's pretty apparent that Cuellar is working on something specific with him in Rochester and as soon as they feel comfortable with his progress, he'll be with the ML club.
  3. Okay, that's quite enough. The tone in this thread is turning for the worse.
  4. It probably had something to do with having the 29th best rotation in baseball.
  5. Not taking the BPA in the draft is a slippery slope to step on. You make excuses for doing it one year and it's not hard to come up with reasons to continue doing it every year thereafter.
  6. Excuse me while I go chug a bottle of scotch.
  7. Nick was all for removing Duensing from the rotation in 2011 because of his splits. I know this for a fact because several massive threads were dedicated to it over on BYTO.
  8. I expect him to hover right around that mark most seasons so yeah, predicting that he'll never top it is a little premature.
  9. That season never existed. Outside of 2010, the Twins haven't had decent starting pitching since Santana left. And in 2010, Nathan was injured. Morneau was out. The team was still very good but it still had significant flaws. The closest the Twins came to a season like that was 2006, when they should have handled the A's but didn't. They were a 96 win team (their best record since 1970) and straight-up choked in the playoffs.
  10. Especially if you're willing to take A ball guys. Teams in "win now" mode aren't going to squawk too much about trading a guy in the low minors for a capable top of the order guy who is team controlled for three years.
  11. Duensing never had success against righties, even when he was pitching well. He struggled to get his OPS against righties under .750 even in his good seasons. You can't succeed as a starter if you can't get right-handed batters out. That's the difference. Diamond, on the other hand, is getting shelled against lefties, which is incredibly odd and not likely to hold as the sample size grows.
  12. You do realize that there's a pretty good chance the Twins won't lose 90 this season, right?
  13. How can you not see any players who fit that? This FA pitching class is the deepest I've seen in quite awhile. Jackson, Sanchez, Liriano, and Greinke are all hitting the market as 28 year olds. There are pitchers of almost every skill level coming to market this offseason. If the Twins are going to strike, I don't see a better season to do it than this one. With that many pitchers on the market, prices shouldn't be driven as high as they have been in previous seasons as five teams vie for the only two or three quality starters on the market. For once, the Twins have a boatload of money to spend on outside talent. If they're not going to do it now, when should they do it? After the Pohlads have padded their bank accounts with $15m+ a season for 2-3 years?
  14. As long as MS keeps Bing as the default search provider for IE, they'll have a place in the market. They're actually commanding more of the market than Yahoo! at this point (by a slim margin). I expect them to show slow and steady growth as MS get their **** together in the mobile space.
  15. Diamond is looking more and more like a quality #3 pitcher. A guy who strings together above average seasons mixed with more pedestrian 4.00 ERA seasons... Not unlike a Brad Radke type. Given the shift in baseball over the past decade, a 4 ERA is pretty average. Just looking at Diamond and his peripherals suggests that he's going to slide back to a slightly above average to average pitcher. In any case, I'll take it. The Twins badly needed a guy to step up in the rotation and Scott looks to be that guy for a few years.
  16. You can view the page at http://twinsdaily.com/content.php?902-Minnesota-Twins-Roster-Payroll-2012
  17. If you're talking about only the offensive contribution of a player, it doesn't make much sense to use normal WAR, as it factors in defense. OPS is a decent quick and dirty stat but I prefer OBP/SLG splits. Either way, OPS isn't a bad baseline stat to use in a comparison like this.
  18. Okay, we're starting up the picture of the week again. For those of you not in the know, the way it works is this: I post a couple of pictures. You pick a photo you like, quote me on it (so we know which photo you're referencing!) and then add your own caption. I haven't picked a cutoff deadline yet but it will be sometime next week. We'll see how it plays out. Don't like either photo? Then go find your own and caption it. The contest isn't limited to only the photos I choose each week. The best caption is chosen and posted on the forum main page. If you're chosen, you win my eternal gratitude (seven days of it, anyway) and nothing else. This week's subject is our favorite punching bag, Tsuyoshi Nishioka. I shouldn't have to say this but... NO OVERTLY RACIST CAPTIONS. Keep it clean and have fun.
  19. Your math is bad. Brock's ISO Discipline is .050 (like I said) and Revere has raised his ISO Discipline almost ten points in the last few days. We'll see if it holds. Out of your list, that leaves Puckett. That's a pretty small list. No one is claiming that riding a high BABIP to the Hall of Fame is impossible. I'm only stating that it's incredibly unlikely. And we shouldn't even be talking about Cobb. There's nothing worth comparing between a dead ball era player and a modern player. The game is completely different.
  20. The key difference is that I was advocating a trade of both Revere and Span based on what the market might be for each player, not because I want to keep around the old guard.
  21. Oh man, the times we had. You'll be missed, Tsuyoshi.
  22. I think I could field second as well as Nishioka. This is embarrassing.
  23. It seems to me as if they're working on something specific with Hendriks. He was sent down at an odd time and the organization has been mum about him since. It'd be nice if someone gave the fanbase an update on him.
  24. Use the Reply with Quote button, my man! It solves those types of problems...
  25. Cuellar better be working some serious black voodoo magic with Hendriks down in Rochester for him not to be on the Twins roster at this point.
