This is very different from the Sasaki situation, unless Reyes is getting Atlanta's full cap.  This seems more of a "let's set our least promising prospect who set to sign for any real money free."  Or we should hope.

Reyes signed for $1.8 of their $6.2 million allotment.

They are expected to sign 3 other highly regarded infielders. They signed a Cuban outfielder for 2.5. That 6.2 shrinks quickly.

Raudy Reyes had a major growth spurt and emerged late on the scene as the top non-Sasaki arm in this class, and the team from suburban Cobb County, Georgia pivoted to sign him, despite the major resource reallocation that required. In so doing, they vacated an informal agreement with Dencer Diaz, an infielder from the Dominican Republic, and the Twins' international scouting department (guided by, among others, Kevin Goldstein) was in position to offer a substantial bonus to snare Diaz on the rebound. This is the second late move they've made as this market opens for 2025, supplementing a class previously viewed as interesting but not exceptional. With Diaz and Teilon Serrano added to their haul, the Twins keep building upon a strong reputation in Latin America.

Appreciate the information. I certainly won't see this sort of signing on ESPN. Another infielder? Okay, maybe not an exciting signing, but with these young Dominican players, who knows what can happen. Always worth a shot, but yeah, that "flame-throwing" pitcher would have been a nice get too!
