Sickels Twins Top 20 Prospect Review

John Sickels over at minorleagueball.com did a review of his preseason Twins top 20. He said this about the system:

 

"The Twins farm system continues to thrive, with Buxton emerging as the best prospect in the game, Sano continuing to mash, Arcia holding is own, and strong performances from several others. The need for high-ceiling arms remains, but the addition of 2013 first-round pick Kohl Stewart adds a potential ace starter to the mix, granted he's a high school kid who is some distance away."

If we were buyers it looks like we'd have lots of trading chips. at least we have multiple solid to great prospects at all positions except SS and SP.

The thing that pleased me was that none of the top prospects really underperformed expectations

yeah, it's going to be interesting to see how he rounds out his top 20 given that not many names will drop off and a case could be made for quite a few being added. Wouldn't be surprised if John has 25 guys ranked C+ or better.

Meyers, Stewart, J.O., Gibson (graduated), and to a lesser extent May, Eades, and Gonsalves is a pretty solid group of arms.

What's interesting to me is that even outside of the 23 guys that were graded there are multiple high upside (admitedly high risk) talents such as Minier and Felix Jorge, very solid contributors like Pinto and Vargas and 4 guys that have contributed to the MLB team this year (Thielbar, Pressly, Hermann and Hernandez).

 

That kind of depth, added to the top 7 or 8 high ceiling prospects (including those "graduating" this year) bodes really well for building a competitive team over the next few years, whether through graduation to the team or trade chips to fill areas of need.
