Personally, I'd be trying to rescue James Darnell and give him some time at 3B for us if we deal Morneau.

He's struggling, but this guy was very recently thought of as a legit star in the making. Might be worth a flyer if the price is low enough.

Edit: I stand corrected...he was cut. Huh. Never mind.

Interesting number about the Padres: 52. They have the same losses as the Twins do this season...

I do not see them being buyers. They will be sellers like the Twins.

Here's the thing: They have nothing to sell. They can ship away some bit parts but, overall, they have nothing that can bring them back a cache of prospects. Kind of like the Twins. Unlike the Twins, they don't have many expiring contracts (Morneau, Pelfrey) that are obvious to move.

I find it interesting they have had scouts watching Garza, et al. They have a lot of depth at the lower levels of the minors that they can swap. They make a play for someone with a contract or arb years for the coming seasons, not this one.

All in all, I would be they wind up holding than anything.

The NL West is so terrible they could add a piece or two and be right in the thick of it.

I think Quentin, Marquis, Gregorson, Street, Stults, and maybe Denorfia could all generate interest. Maybe not a lot of interest, but some of those guys could be decent pieces.

Outside of Quentin and Gregerson: bit parts. Nothing that is going to bring them back anything other than contract relief.

So basically the same as the Twins?
