July 2nd 2014 - Starting Lineup (from AM 1500)

I'm relatively new to the Reusse and Mackey show so I don't yet know if Mackey is an unabashed unrealistic homer, but Ruesse and Mackey were both guessing the Twins lineup on July 2nd 2014

Mackey's lineup almost made me pass out with joy

1. Buxton - CF

2. Hicks - RF

3. Mauer - C

4. Willingham - DH

5. Arcia - LF

6. Sano - 3B

7. Plouffe - 1B

8. Rosario - 2B

9. Escobar - SS (I think this is who he had here)

Notable differences are

Reusse had:

Daniel Santana at SS

Dozier at 2B

Morneau at 1B

Doumit at DH

No Buxton

No Rosario

Interesting. I think Mackey's lineup maybe relatively close. Indirectly it highlights the continued need to stockpile starting pitching prospects. It appears our future position players are already in the pipeline. A SS with some pop would look good with our #1 pick next draft.

As awesome as it would be...isn't Buxton being up at that point just a bit too soon? Rosario perhaps too, I see them more as opening day 2015 guys.

Probably, but if Buxton does well at Ft Meyers the rest of this year, starts the year at AA next year, and does well, I can see it.

I believe Mackey suggested that he'd be a prime candidate for mid-June call up.

I could make a lot of sense because a) he's awesome, and B) I don't see us solving our leadoff hitter problem before then.

I certainly hope the only reason he's called up is A, not B. I don't rule it out, but this seems to be a pretty rosey timeline for at least Rosario and Buxton.

I agree it would be rosy for both. A Buxton callup at that point would be quicker than Trout (from time drafted to time debuted), but man Buxton has pretty much hit the ground running in Ft. Myers.

They are both homers in the sense that baseball is the favorite sport by far for both of them, they want to see the Twins do well, and they are relatively defensive of the operation. But they are generally realistic in their analysis.

If baseball is your top sport and you listen to sports talk radio, I don't know why you wouldn't listen to this show in this time slot. Probably second only to John's spots on the Power Trip, right?

Also worth noting is that lineup costs about $35 mil, and that includes $7 mil for a highly replaceable Willingham.

I've always listened to Barerio on my drive home and when 1500 came online I was ready to be flexible... But I can't stand Soucheray, so I kept listening to 100.3. Now that 1500 has adjusted their lineup (thank god) I find myself splitting time between the two stations on my drive home, shifting more and more to 1500.

Barerio with a guest (Nanne, Kessler, Rosenbaum, etc) is good radio, but if its just Bump, then I usually end up popping over to 1500

I would agree with this.

Reusse and Mackey get a pretty good lineup of guests as well. They generally will check in with the opposing beat writer at the start of the series and they alternate Olney/Kurkijian each week and also some other good national guys. They also provide a pretty good mix of old school analysis and story telling (Reusse) with a more sabrmetric bent (Mackey).

Buxton would have to do in AA what he did this year in CR to get called up this time next year. I suspect he's going to be opening day 2015 personally. 2014 will be a transition year, I expect the Twins to ease in a lot of their guys and spread them out over 2014 for service time reasons. As it is, Meyer, May, Tonkin, Pinto, Darnell, Sano, and Rosario will all be transitioned into the lineup and that doesn't include other potential options like Santana or some of their other relievers.
