I believe they are managing his innings. It does not look good on his stat lines pulling him mid-inning, however

While he should have probably got the one out, I’m glad he didn’t complicate things by throwing the ball away. Still gives us a chance to get out of the inning.

I'll add on to my earlier comment, it's hard to win ballgames when 60% of your starters are bad and all but 1 of your relievers can't pitch under any modicum of pressure.

The Reds are a better team than the Twins. 13 games against the White Sox explains the difference in records.

I remember Varland pitching that good game in New York two seasons ago. 

I don’t know what happened. 

However hard he throws, I guess he’s just hittable.
