Totally agree with everything you said especially the comparison to if one of our rivals signed him.  Like you I am hoping for the best but there are plenty of warts in Santana's profile to make you worry about him being dead weight. Obviously the Twins feel otherwise. Have to believe there are more moves on the way.

One thing I would add Santana is strong defensively at 1B.  Over most the names you mentioned who are not.
