Will Adam Dunn reach 500 home runs?

After his age 30 season he had 354 HR and had just signed with the White Sox in a great hitters park. Seemed pretty easy to imagine him getting to 500. Then he was beyond awful in his first year with the Sox (it was great) and only hit 11 homers and posting a 54 OPS+. Last year, he bounced back and hit 41 and the six he has this year brings his career total to 412. But he's now 33 and really struggling again. Hicks has a higher OBP than Dunn. It's hard to see him getting enough PA over the next 2-3 years to hit 88 HRs.

Putting things in perspective on how bad things are going for the 2 reverse batting champs:

Adam Dunn 2013 BA: .137

Aaron Hicks 2013 BA: .137

All Pitchers 2013 BA: .121

In my opinion, Adam Dunn will not reach the 500HR Plateau and he will be out of baseball when his current contract expires after 2014, if not before - I could see the Sux eating his contract next year, especially if they are rebuilding, which looks like a possibility.

I would rather sign Carlos Zambrano to be my DH. Dunn's brand of baseball is grotesque and is quickly approaching its expiration date.

On a more positive note - Adam Dunn looks like he would make a sturdy, comfortable couch. I'd probably throw $500 down to purchase that.

Follow up question: If he does reach 500 and retires shortly after, does he make the HOF?

I think the better question would be, does he even make the cutoff after the first ballot?

No.

I don't believe he'll get to 500, but after reading these posts I suspect I'd be less surprised than most.

Those TTT guys can surprise you.
