C. J. Cron was a hot commodity in college.

 

2009 2nd-Team College Freshman All-American and Mountain West Conference (MWC) Freshman of the Year.

 

2010 third Team College All-American, MWC All-Star and MWC Player of the Year.

 

2011 led the nation in OPS (1.320) and SLG and was named a Baseball America All-American. Then drafted 1st-round 17th overall by the Angels.

 

I'd call that a pretty good hitting pedigree. Could have more upside here yet. Don't dis the Cron.

Here's the thing about C.J. Cron...He is a coaches son, his dad is actually a coach in the Diamondback's minor league system(Reno i think) and his brother Kevin, who is obviously from the same stock plays for Reno as well. He seems to me like a super smart defender and hes becoming a much more disciplined hitter because doesn't have to worry about his playing time anymore. For most of his career in the Angels system he was behind Pujols or some other journeyman 1b man. I think he may become a much better player than he is right now.

Kevin was actually called up to the DBacks a couple weeks ago.

He hits the ball really friggin hard and is extremely solid with scoops at first base and on pop ups. Very good addition to the team, for cheap.
