Parker Hageman Site Manager Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 He's been caught looking a bit more than the past four years. 2008-2011: 18%2012: 26% May just need his strike zone re-calibrated.
70charger Verified Member Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 That shows a year-over-year rise, but not necessarily a linear one. It could be that Mauer's strikeout rate was unusually high early this year because he was rusty from missing so much time last year. I'm too lazy to look it up. Does anyone know?

I figured that might be part of the problem. Even before looking at the statistics it seemed like he's taken more called 3rd strikes this year. Someone get the man some contacts!
greengoblinrulz Provisional Member Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 is this dumb......not catching as much might hurt him on the called strikes as he's not 'working' the home plate umpire as much as before.

I'm not saying either way if it is or is not having any effect on him because it is likely just a statistical blip and now an issue however Pete Rose was notorious for taking batting practice and just watching each pitch go by so he could visualize a strike zone. Perhaps not catching as much has taken a little bit of that element away for Mauer. Who knows. *shrugs, walks away*
