Also, it's been such a crap baseball season that I hadn't bothered to even notice what a big year Nick Markakis is having. I thought he was washed up.

If Markakis magically reaches 3000 hits I won't know what to think. He's had a couple good years but he is basically Alex Gordon or Jason Heyward.

Problem for Joe is that he doesn't rack up huge hit totals with his approach. His 3 highest season totals ever were 191, 181, 176. In the 2010s he has averaged 143 per season, and is only at 86 for this season. He'd have to play well into his 40s to have a sniff with numbers like those.
