gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 There are too many threads so I'm not sure if this has been answered elsewhere so I'll just make a thread for this issue. How much did we save. All three of these guys should sign for less than slot. Lewis - slot was 7.7m. We were told that he and McKay were in competition for the last spot and we got some savings. So maybe he signs for 6.4? And we saved 1.3m Rooker - # 50 on mlb's list and 45 on BA and lower on others. Senior with no leverage at all. Slot is 1.9m so maybe he signs for 1.5? (slot at 45?). And we save 400k. Leach - 101 on mlb's list and 85 on BA. Canadian with decent college commitment but will sign. Slot is 1.8m. Seems like he could sign from anywhere between 1.0-1.3m and still sign. Giving us savings around 500-800k. So we maybe saved, what, 2.2-2.5m? Maybe more if Lewis is closer to 6.2m?
ashbury Verified Member Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 Since Lewis wasn't on anyone's radar to sign in the top 2, that I recall, it's possible even "greedy Scott Boras" commits to a bonus like you named. It was pretty well known that Cincy had eyes for Greene, putting Lewis 3rd at best. Locking in versus gambling for a little more as an actual #3 slot but risking a drop to #7 as I saw in one mock would be an easy decision IMO.
John Bonnes Site Manager Posted June 13, 2017 Posted June 13, 2017 I'd estimate the savings at $1- $1.5M. We won't know until the dollars are announced. But the report was they sae $900k to $1.3M with Lewis and I"m guessing at least 100K with Rooker.
