In today's Pioneer Press article, Mike Berardino reports that when lefty Hector Santiago throws his bullpen at Hammond Stadium this morning, it will already be his 11th bullpen of the spring. He needed to be ahead of the game since he will be pitching for Team Puerto Rico in the WBC.

According to his schedule, he (along with Jose Berrios, Eddie Rosario, Kennys Vargas and Dereck Rodriguez) will head to train with the Puerto Rico team on March 6 and will play their first game on March 10th.

Team Puerto Rico should be good and has a lot of young talent.

“It looks like a pretty good team,” Santiago said. “A lot of young stars that came up in the last couple years. We definitely got lucky with being able to get everybody together and the teams agreeing to let players go.”

Mike has since updated the article with comments from Engelb Vielma on a plaque placed in the locker room for Yorman Landa, his friend and teammate, who passed away in a car accident in December. Article also has some notes on Falvey, Molitor meetings with players.

How does this effect the pitchers being in the Twins' rotation or not this year (to start the year)? Will they be following the new rules for control (or command) put in place for Twins' pitchers and bullpens? Will they have any Twins' coaching?

If not, it is hard to see how they start the year in MN, frankly.

This has happened every WBC. No, the Twins coaches don't travel, but certainly they're kept updated on the pitchers work, etc. I don't think this affects Santiago and his rotation spot at all. It certainly could affect Berrios though.
