gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 mlbpipeline is every so slowly putting out their top 10 at every position and top 100. The top LHP included Stephen Gonsalves but not Tyler Jay. Gonsalves was #10. http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017?list=lhp I suspect this means they are concerned with his durability and ability to be a starter long term.

Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Interesting because just after the draft they had Jay as their number 1, two steps ahead of Gonsalves. Guess their changed their mind in a month

Oldgoat_MN Verified Member Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Pleased to see they are this high on Gonsalves.I keep getting the idea that no one finds his stuff overwhelming, but he gets results and has done so at every level. I hope the Twins are more aggressive with him (put him in AAA and see what happens) and maybe we will see him before he is 26 years old.
Oldgoat_MN Verified Member Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 BTW: Jose De Leon is their #8 RHP. Last sentence: "Though he missed time in 2016 with an ankle injury and shoulder inflammation, he projects as a durable mid-rotation starter."

I know there should be a variation between different evaluators, I guess I'm just a little curious why Sickels had him so high. He seems more like a 2/3 starter from what I've read elsewhere.

Sickels generally values floor and probability much higher than others (Sickels is generally the highest on reliever prospects). De Leon would still probably be around the #10 pitcher for mlb.com, so it's not *that* big a difference.
